  1. Posting here for greater exposure. There was a guy who retired from ALF in Elmira and had most if not all the factory photos of virtually every truck that left the factory in the 1920's and, given the serial #, could supply a copy of the factory photo of virtually any ALF from the time. Is he still around and does he still offer this service?
  2. We did have a Macpherson grad who was very good. Unfortunately his wife made him move back to their home town. One of our best current employees is a graduate of a tech school in Western PA whose name now escapes me. We have had zero success with local tech school grads despite giving several a chance. Sadly our local tech school has apparently become a holding pen for kids who can't make it in regular high school.
  3. We would hire 2 more employees immediately if we could find them. We did hire a fresh Penn graduate but he did not work out. His Mom told me the 2 year program he completed was $60k. In our experience these schools seem to concentrate on turning out future shop owners rather than skilled employees and that is perfectly fine but shops are screaming for grads who can actually DO something.
  4. While I agree with the decision to cancel it does bring back bad memories. I knew Dad was dying when he told me late in September '86 that he couldn't make Hershey that year. By the end of October he was gone.
  5. My 94 year old Aunt lives in a nursing home in Lancaster, PA. 20 of her fellow residents have died from the virus. She dodged a bullet. She had the virus but survived. She's tough and lucky. She also recovered from polio in the 1940's. Hope I have some of her genes.
  6. Extremely unlikely that anyone makes a kit for your car . You will need to send the car to a specialist or do it yourself. We have rewooded maybe 35 cars over the years but never a '29 Chrysler Roadster. Your wood needs to be accurate within 3/16" if you want the doors to close properly. Where are you located?
  7. We have patterns for phaeton irons and bows from '30 thru '34. I would need to research whether '29 is the same. We have made maybe 30 sets of these over the years in polished stainless.
  8. I thought Preparation H could only be used on rear ends?
  9. Maybe it was one of those Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles practicing his Ninja skills.
  10. Person stopped in the shop this morning and gave us a tip. She said she waxes her car with Vicks Vapo Rub. It keeps the bees away and helps with her asthma. She then proceeded to make enough irrational statements that we thought it prudent to call our local police just in case she was a missing person, maybe from a long term care facility. She eventually drove off but we did get her name and plate number. Anyone ever use Vicks to wax a car?
  11. We can make you top irons in stainless as well as bows steam bent as original if needed.
  12. I received and returned my 3 question survey last week.
  13. Exactly what we have done more than once. Weld up the worn teeth and file them back into shape.
  14. Martin Parry was located in York, PA. The building still stands and has been turned into low income housing I believe. Just passed it Yesterday.
  15. Don't you have anything fancier? We restored and showed a 1958 Cadillac Eureka Flower Car. It was in terrible shape but you could see where Eureka cut the original rocker panels with a torch and installed new longer panels as part of their build.
  16. I was crossing the Hudson on the Tappenzee bridge. A barge was passing under the bridge below me. It was struck by a massive bolt of lightning that looked like it was about 6 inches in diameter. Only time I actually witnessed a strike.
  17. I believe in capital punishment for thieves but I do not think women should be hung.😃
  18. I have a '48 Buick Super Woodie that needs 100% of the wood replaced. Wood is disassembled but great for patterns and maybe 35% of the wood has been replicated. I can't seem to give it away.
  19. My ex wife's grandfather was an undertaker. When he retired we bought his 1952 Superior Cadillac hearse. 7000 miles and always kept in a heated garage. Absolutely "as new", even the air in the tires. It took up a lot of room so Dad decided to sell it. Guy bought it to use as a parts hauler to Carlisle and Hershey. A few months later it was sideswiped by a truck and scrapped.
  20. One of my college roommates was struck and killed by lightning on a beach in Nova Scotia on a sunny day. His wife noticed dark clouds on the horizon and thought it was time to leave the beach. My friend stood up, picked up their sandy blanket and snapped it over his head to get rid of the sand. He died instantly.
