If you could only have one “dream” car.......
Jeff Perkins / Mn posted a topic in General Discussion
This discussion question pops up often when car guys get together. If you could have your one dream car, only one antique or collectible, money no object, what would it be? Mine....an American Underslung, 1906-1910. What would yours be. Only one! -
Take it from the Dad of a 12 yr. MLB player.....hitting is all that matters..... As for the cars lost in the wild fires, so sad and tragic. Here is one story of survival that is fortunate. Ron W’s house in Paradise, Calif., was destroyed by the Camp Fire, but not the Model T he left on a trailer in his driveway. “It’s stupid to risk a life for a Model T when there’s so many people trying to evacuate.” Ron W.

How to Sort and Maintain a Prewar car
Jeff Perkins / Mn replied to alsancle's topic in General Discussion
After making sure all my components are up to spec and in working order I adjust the brakes on my Model A according to Ford service bulletins. They work very well and my friends are amazed at the good braking. I feel totally comfortable driving that car in under 45 mph roads. No freeways for me! -

Thanks Bob, one needs a wishbone brace on the early Ford cars. I also use a “belly band” as insurance against a 106 yr. old transmission arm breaking. -

Last week I removed the rear spring on my 1913 T runabout, inspected, cleaned, and painted it with “Slip Plate”. I noticed an improved ride (yes, on a T!) so tomorrow I will do the same to the front spring. One does not need a spring spreader for a T, just a big ol’ C-clamp. At the same time I did disassemble the spring shackles, clean them and install new oil caps. I did use new spring boots as 37hd45 mentioned. -
What kind of car guy do you self identify as and why

Many think the model A’s and model T’s are mundane. I have had more fun with those cars than any others I have ever owned. I am open minded and love all cars. I’m just a little out of round! -

A car nut since birth! My dad was a car salesman in the 50's, he brought home a different car every day. I would sit in the window and watch for him. When I was 10 or so a man across the alley from my grandparents had a Model T and a Model A in his yard. He let me play in them and I was hooked! -

All of this discussion is very good. One of the best words of advice I have read on this forum is these words from “alsancle”: “Trim it down to the few you like best and make your life easier. Concentrate on being a curator of those. You will in the end be much happier.” -
I normally speak little about F/S ads but.....reading the eBay listing I see a real bargain in purchasing this stalled project. David’s assessment of today’s truck market is spot on and, having restored a ‘47 “rounder” (Chevy) myself, see this as a great start. Good Luck with your sale, someone will acquire a great start to one of these.

1940 Olds on Craigslist
Jeff Perkins / Mn replied to Smartin's topic in Automobiles and Parts - Buy/Sell
Adam, ”Run of the mill” pre-war sedans are a tough sell nowdays. Very nice examples can be found for very reasonable dollars ( see Matt Harwood’s website). This car needs a lot to be presentable. I cannot offer a pricing idea but if I was the seller I would certainly be open to offers and prepare to endure less $$ to move these two cars out. -
Thank You for that info. Years ago (maybe 40) a neighbor had a ‘17 DB roadster that needed restoring. He had a bunch of these and gave me one. I used a picture and dimension to try and ID this one......just a guess. Hope someone can use it!

Me and my 1929 Ford 150-a, one of the first six built. This was ten years and 60+ more pounds (on me!) ago. BTW I sold the 1914 Ford Touring to “Old Car Fudd” (pictured in an earlier story on this thread) three years ago.....the only car in my life I regret selling! Second picture is me this spring with my 1913 Runabout which I brought home after a 30 year slumber. -

Jeff Perkins / Mn replied to Kfigel's topic in Automobiles and Parts - Buy/Sell
Oh, I wanted one of these in the worst way when they were new. I test drove several, loved them. Then I bought a Volare. Ugh! This Córdoba is a very nice car and I wish you the best with your sale. It would be a big hit at the cruise ins these days. -
