  1. Hi Neil, The trip was done in three segments 1( Detroit to Colorado Springs 2) Pikes Peak to San Francisco 3) Detroit to New York City. Not very much mechanical trouble but lots of delays. I do not have a total days to make the trip. Fred Trinkle was a good friend of Floyd Clymer. The book was published in 1952.
  2. With all the caveats about these cars, how did these people make this trip? Fascinating story. I have had this book since childhood and always have had a soft spot for the Brush automobiles. Occasionally one or two do participate in the New London / New Brighton run here in Minnesota.
  3. And being a he-man😀……..the longer the WB, the better the ride…..go big or go home!
  4. @George SmolinskiA 1938 Imperial Sedan (series9033) sold for somewhere near this asking price 10 years ago. W.C. Fields’ 1938 9059 Sedan sold for 270K in 2006. I think it has gone through auction since, not sure. @TAKerry I am getting used to driving/parking my big oaf ( ‘48 NYer, 127” WB) but this Cadillac sure would be a handful with that 141”WB !
  5. Opinions sought about what entails in ownership of one of these…… https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1286309198605926/?hoisted=false&ref=category_feed&referral_code=undefined&referral_story_type=listing&tracking={"qid"%3A"-5036127670294297937"%2C"mf_story_key"%3A"8477297529008080"%2C"commerce_rank_obj"%3A"{\"target_id\"%3A8477297529008080%2C\"target_type\"%3A0%2C\"primary_position\"%3A32%2C\"ranking_signature\"%3A4120762765344243712%2C\"commerce_channel\"%3A504%2C\"value\"%3A0.00058352295929332%2C\"candidate_retrieval_source_map\"%3A{\"8477297529008080\"%3A111}}"%2C"ftmd_400706"%3A"111112l"} 1940 Cadillac Series 90 Fleetwood Formal Sedan Limo * 1 of 2 manufactured with Body Style # 9059. * V16 * This is a very exciting car to look at and drive. The body is mostly original paint, but some repaint. Has new top. Some small spider cracks in the paint on a few spots. Very nice overall. The interior is excellent. A lot of hidden compartments. One in the back to hold drinks. Spot for umbrella. Rear radio. Two fold down jump seats. The interior fabric is in nice condition and very comfortable. 3 speed manual that shifts very nice. 431 cu in V16 engine that runs great. The exhaust sounds great as well. Car has a lot literature with it. This is a great way to make sure you do not have the same car as anyone else at the shows.
  6. A very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours also! Looking forward to seeing more postings from you in 2023……Love all your cars but especially enjoy reading of the Cleveland. VBR, Jeff P.
  7. Actually, the seller I met two years ago, was into the Lowrider scene. A lot of the accessories you see are like gold to the car people who like that look and style.
  8. I looked at this car two years ago…..passed. Someone else bought it and apparently fixed the issues the car had and is now reselling.
  9. The thing I enjoy the most about speedsters is there are NO rules……the “Model T Police” in the local clubs cannot pick them apart for originality!
  10. @Robert G. Smits I just ordered that book through Minnesota Link Library System! You may enjoy (or perhaps have read) this book about a driving trip through Europe. This trip occurred in 1913-14 but the book was written in 1921.
  11. Amen. The car hobby, like everything else, has changed so much.
  12. Next up on the winter agenda is total maintenance on the ‘48 Chrysler. Oil, filter, change trans fluid and clutch fluid, service air filter. I notice a little brake fluid on the inside of the LR tire so need to investigate……sounds like a brake job coming up! Oh,well, we do love to drive these beasts so maintaining them is a priority. I can’t believe how heavy it is to lift the hood on this car…….it gains weight every year 😂…..
  13. I just ordered the same book on MN Link Libraries, coming from Hennepin County (Mpls) Library so should be here in a week or so. Sounds very interesting!
  14. Exactly right @The 55er……pictured below are the 283 V-8 and 6 cyl emblems. It appears the ‘60 pictured above may have a factory 4 spd floor shifter….. my second car, purchased in 1970, was a 1961 Impala w/ a 348 & 4 spd.
  15. @TerryB does the gold V under the crossed flags on the ‘60 Chev indicate a 348 under the hood originally? I have seen some with a silver V there (283) and no V there (6cyl) as well as the gold. Same goes for the emblem on the trunk??
  16. I love the ancient (pre WW1) cars so this past fall I dug out my stash of books and will work my way through them.
  17. I rode in two Cuban convertibles during my time there…..one a true 1955 Chev convertible running a 261 GMC 6 cyl. which the owner claimed had over 500K miles…..the other was a 1957 Buick Century 4 dr. with the roof cut off. This baby had a 4cyl. Toyota diesel engine with a 5 spd. transmission. What a mess that one was!!
  18. @Steve_Mack_CT Bloo nailed it…..I bought mine in 2010 from the original owner. A “no option” car that the dealer added AC, cruise control and a crap radio. I bought a new Miata in ‘95, sold it to my neighbor in ‘04 (he still has it) to buy a Corvette. Watching that car drive by my house all the time, I sold the Corvette and bought this Miata. It is the most fun car to drive I have owned!
  19. Just finished the annual cleaning/detailing of my daily driver, 1991 Miata. Last item on checklist is oil + filter change. Then, back to the main garage for its’ winter nap.
  20. Kudos to the seller for doing the basic things necessary to sell a car. I don’t care if it’s a flip. I get tired of the cars posted on this forum that come from Craigslist, FB or wherever that are dusty, dirty, with junk piled inside the car. Some sellers are just plain lazy!
  21. My experience in Cuba was that most of the cars in Havana appear to be convertibles are actually sedans with the roof cut off. Most of them are in Havana where the main tourism is. We spent a lot of time in the rural areas and there were some older sedans. Also seemed to be a lot of Russian Ladas.
  22. Back in 1963 Clark gas stations in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul were giving away a brand new 1963 Chevrolet every week during the summer. My uncle, who was 22 at the time, won a four-door Impala sport sedan with a six cylinder and powerglide. Not exactly the type of car a person this age would like. He traded it in on a brand new 1964 Corvette. When he got new license plates in 1965 he gave me the ones that came in his new Corvette and I still have them.
  23. Fun story……very well written! I recall this magazine cover from just over a year ago. Thank You!
  24. @JACK M There is a fellow in the Twin Cities who has a NY’er business coupe like yours….flat black, black tires and ‘60 Buick hubcaps. A good look!
