  1. My Great grandmother went from horse and buggy days to man on the moon and everything in between. As kids we couldn't believe her stories (riding a horse 5 miles each way to school - that sounded like a very tall tale), but look at how fast things are changing now. 10 - 20 years ago some of what we have now was science fiction stuff! Re the original picture - it is often overlooked just how many animals of all kinds "served" in both world wars and indeed up to present times.
  2. Quite easy to tell if you slip off the band covering the brushes and take a look. Not trying to be a smartarse but just pointing at the elephant in the room. Steve
  3. Push back hard on them and twist (probably left). My Hupps have the same lens and that's how I do them. Steve
  4. Stay away from "snake oil" type products that promise miracles. If you have a leak there is only one way to fix it and that is properly! Steve
  5. The metric hex bar is probably a lot easier to find than inch and fractional sizes and they are too lazy to mill the hex from round bar. Just an aside - a immigrant with a rudimentary grasp on English couldn't understand that once you chop a tree down you then proceed to chop it up! Took some explaining. Steve
  6. I had a 1950 L series Vauxhall touring car with the Dubonnet suspension. I never had to do much to it other than fluid checks and it was one of the smoothest riding cars I have ever owned. It is one I wish I still had! Steve
  7. I have a few ready to go at 11 inches tube length. Other lengths I can make to order and ship within a week. Send me a direct message if you are interested - you will need to make a few more posts before the system will allow you to do so. Until then - reply via this thread regarding length needed etc. Steve
  8. I agree with keiser31 - Brooklands type aeroscreen.
  9. I have had one go bang. Back in the day at the drive-in movies where you clipped on to the radio antenna to get the soundtrack. At the end of the show when I cranked the motor off it went like a cannon blast! This thread has got me thinking - the Hindenburg was full of hydrogen and burnt more than explode, so why no really big bang to take out half the airfield? Steve
  10. Trico did /do wiper blades etc. That looks like it may be the top of a washer bottle. Steve
  11. The early advertisers nearly always shrunk the people to give the impression that the cars were larger than what they actually are. Steve
  12. If it's the maroon one that's the car! Mums uncle or cousin had some of the original documentation and it was offered to Ian some years back and for some reason he refused it. I do not know if it is still around or long gone. Steve
  13. The Le Zebra sparked something. My mothers grandfather and his brother both had one as they were the agents for South Australia I believe. One of those 2 cars (or a combination of both) is owned by a fellow member of the VSCCSA but he refuses to part with it since it has been a part of his family for over 60 years. Steve
  14. If the computers go down, you struggle to buy anything even if you have the correct change!
  15. Reminds me of the Monty Python sketch - "But I don't want it" where he is telling his son that the first castle sank into the swamp etc etc.
  16. BSA - Birmingham Small Arms - better known for motorcycles but did a few cars also. Steve
  17. The ones I have made new rims for just recently have been coated with Tung oil. Reason for this is any scratches from a ring wearer etc just need a rub with more oil rather than a strip and refinish. It "dries" so it is not slippery as I thought an oil coating would be. and it gives that satin sheen. Steve
  18. I have strict rules on this and there are currently 5 cars in the garage with lathes, mills and other "necessaries? Ther is an attached work space with benches cluttered with semi complete projects. Now despite the "strict rule" there is garbage the female in the house just dumps in any convenient spot just to be sure it annoys me - Christmas decorations, boxes of books, stuff her kids were about to bin but are "sentimental" and other boxed of stuff I would send to the tip or charity shop. She is on the other side of the country for the next few weeks so I will use some magic on some of this, so it "disappears". There is a whole separate single car garage at the back of the yard for storage and garden stuff, with room for the muck she puts into my space! Steve
  19. For want of a better picture I would settle for Jewitt. The wheel grease nuts on the cream car could almost have the same logo as the original car. Steve
  20. Agreement in full to thank ordinary men who are prepared to put themselves into harms way should it be requested of them by the government of the day to protect the values that make democracies a great place to live. Just an aside - there is a lot of focus on Army, Navy, Airforce but please don't forget that civilian medical personnel from doctors to nurses and ward orderlies are also dragged into conflicts and do a courageous job ensuring the survival of those who may not have made it otherwise. Also, the civilian emergency services, fire and ambulance etc. who get / got called upon. Heroics is not limited to self-sacrifice to take out a mortar emplacement to save a handful of people - sometimes the forgotten background players saved more lives than the "death or glory" frontline boys. As for the end of "The Great War" on 11/11/1918 - it was the war to end all wars. That - we got completely wrong didn't we! Pray the madness and suffering we inflict on each other ends. We are now living in times where armed conflicts should be a thing of the past. Steve
  21. Rumble deck is too short, fenders do not show any beading and the visor over the screen is part of the roof in the original picture. I would guess at 1926-7 Series A Hupmobile. Now if the lady could kindly move away from the vehicle so I can get a better look................. Steve
  22. So.... For the non-T Ford guys is this like flashing a generator to re magnetize the pole shoes for negative / positive earth? Are the spark plugs fired directly off that voltage? I have never understood T Ford ignitions - where do trembler coils etc come into play? Indulge a village idiot on the subject please? Steve
  23. I have the same one readily accessible by reaching under the dash on my Triumph Spitfire. I have it wired to a master relay that drops out fuel pump, ignition circuit and everything else under the hood plus all instruments on the dashboard. Never used it yet but give the dash a good thump to knock it out for a demonstration - so it works. Steve
