  1. If it's the maroon one that's the car! Mums uncle or cousin had some of the original documentation and it was offered to Ian some years back and for some reason he refused it. I do not know if it is still around or long gone. Steve
  2. The Le Zebra sparked something. My mothers grandfather and his brother both had one as they were the agents for South Australia I believe. One of those 2 cars (or a combination of both) is owned by a fellow member of the VSCCSA but he refuses to part with it since it has been a part of his family for over 60 years. Steve
  3. If the computers go down, you struggle to buy anything even if you have the correct change!
  4. Reminds me of the Monty Python sketch - "But I don't want it" where he is telling his son that the first castle sank into the swamp etc etc.
  5. BSA - Birmingham Small Arms - better known for motorcycles but did a few cars also. Steve
  6. The ones I have made new rims for just recently have been coated with Tung oil. Reason for this is any scratches from a ring wearer etc just need a rub with more oil rather than a strip and refinish. It "dries" so it is not slippery as I thought an oil coating would be. and it gives that satin sheen. Steve
  7. I have strict rules on this and there are currently 5 cars in the garage with lathes, mills and other "necessaries? Ther is an attached work space with benches cluttered with semi complete projects. Now despite the "strict rule" there is garbage the female in the house just dumps in any convenient spot just to be sure it annoys me - Christmas decorations, boxes of books, stuff her kids were about to bin but are "sentimental" and other boxed of stuff I would send to the tip or charity shop. She is on the other side of the country for the next few weeks so I will use some magic on some of this, so it "disappears". There is a whole separate single car garage at the back of the yard for storage and garden stuff, with room for the muck she puts into my space! Steve
  8. For want of a better picture I would settle for Jewitt. The wheel grease nuts on the cream car could almost have the same logo as the original car. Steve
  9. Agreement in full to thank ordinary men who are prepared to put themselves into harms way should it be requested of them by the government of the day to protect the values that make democracies a great place to live. Just an aside - there is a lot of focus on Army, Navy, Airforce but please don't forget that civilian medical personnel from doctors to nurses and ward orderlies are also dragged into conflicts and do a courageous job ensuring the survival of those who may not have made it otherwise. Also, the civilian emergency services, fire and ambulance etc. who get / got called upon. Heroics is not limited to self-sacrifice to take out a mortar emplacement to save a handful of people - sometimes the forgotten background players saved more lives than the "death or glory" frontline boys. As for the end of "The Great War" on 11/11/1918 - it was the war to end all wars. That - we got completely wrong didn't we! Pray the madness and suffering we inflict on each other ends. We are now living in times where armed conflicts should be a thing of the past. Steve
  10. Rumble deck is too short, fenders do not show any beading and the visor over the screen is part of the roof in the original picture. I would guess at 1926-7 Series A Hupmobile. Now if the lady could kindly move away from the vehicle so I can get a better look................. Steve
  11. So.... For the non-T Ford guys is this like flashing a generator to re magnetize the pole shoes for negative / positive earth? Are the spark plugs fired directly off that voltage? I have never understood T Ford ignitions - where do trembler coils etc come into play? Indulge a village idiot on the subject please? Steve
  12. I have the same one readily accessible by reaching under the dash on my Triumph Spitfire. I have it wired to a master relay that drops out fuel pump, ignition circuit and everything else under the hood plus all instruments on the dashboard. Never used it yet but give the dash a good thump to knock it out for a demonstration - so it works. Steve
  13. How many of you have heard of a Lightburn? Washing machine and cement mixer factory in Adelaide South Australia that dabbled into the car market with a horrid attempt that barely sold, and few exist even here. In the US or Europe probably not one example. Only rare because it was an abysmal failure. Steve
  14. I would be interested in the 3 Hupp ones as 2 of them I need for my cars and a pal could use the 3rd one. There is a lady in the local car club who can bring these back to their former glory. Let me know if you are interested in selling me these 3 and posting to Australia. Steve
  15. Silicon based as opposed to what has been used for years - won't eat paintwork is its real only benefit other than a higher boiling point.
  16. No, the system needs to be thoroughly flushed and cleaned out. Even DOT5.1 is incompatible with DOT5. Steve
  17. Way too many people get hung up and fixated on exactly that! It is a different and abstract sum for each of us. Steve
  18. No straightening required on what I had to work with. Although there was a slight twist at the end of each spoke that flattened itself out when the 2 halves were glued and screwed together. I thought it was "supposed" to be like it as all were the same. Steve
  19. Do your connectors on the original harness look like these? If so, find the diameter and you should be able to get some from an electrical supply shop. The picture is of Lucas ones for British cars, and they had a female connector that is essentially a rolled tube of brass with outer insulation. A British car or motorcycle parts supplier could also be an option. Glad you found something. If that place was near me, I would be one of their better customers. Unfortunately, international freight tends to add substantially and the Australian dollar is only 60 cents US. Steve
  20. Unfortunately the idiot that resides within me neglected to take pictures of the next wheel going together but I hope I explained it enough in an earlier post. These pictures show the completed one for my series A Hypomobile before and after the application of the first coat of Tung oil. There in another underway for a T Ford in the same timber. (Jarrah) Steve
  21. Absolutely fantastic that this process is being shared. I am sending a link to this thread to a mate who will have to tackle that job soon. Thanks Hugh Regards Steve
  22. And I am a rank amateur at that! Once you have a center and access to the right equipment it's not all that difficult. Happy to do one if you have the center bit but freight back and forth might hurt the hip pocket.
  23. half the world away from me!
