  1. Slightly higher octane, but with more ethanol would be worth less.
  2. Maybe they're trying to hide something. But isn't that the sheetz.
  3. Yes what John says makes complete sense. It would not be reasonable to have both an 87 and a 88 octane, unless there were some other difference between the two.
  4. Styling-wise the rear part is a bit large and boxy-looking.
  5. That's a very nice 3/4 ton, and considering what people are paying for new trucks these days, a real bargain.

  7. DC/DC Converters DC/DC Converter Elcon Brusa DCDC died after 1.5 years; Inside doesn't look roadworthy mechanically. Replaced with Elcon which lasted 1.5 years; bias shunt resistors overheated, probably because they were potted. Bought another Elcon that looks different on the outside. DC/DC Converters Last Updated: 10/03/09 EVs need 12 volt DC power to operate standard automotive accessories, such as lights, horn, radio, fans, and such. There are several ways to provide this 12v power. You can use a 12v battery and the original alternator, belt driven off the electric motor. It works the same as it does in a normal car, i.e. it's not particularly elegant or efficient. Some budget EVs eliminate the alternator, and just use a large deep-cycle 12v battery that gets recharged when the traction battery is recharged. It works, but makes for weak headlights and poor accessory performance unless the 12v wiring is improved to eliminate the typical 1-2 volt drops between battery and loads. Another less-than-satisfactory approach is to tap the traction batteries to get 12v. This tends to unbalance the batteries, and creates safety problems unless the traction pack is itself a low voltage (24-48 volts). Most modern EVs thus use a DC to DC converter. This is an electronic power supply that takes high voltage DC power from the car's traction battery pack, and provides an isolated 12 volt output to power standard accessories. They are small, light, silent, and have no moving parts. The DC to DC converter is usually set to provide a solid 14 volt output so lights and accessories work the same as they would in a normal car with the alternator charging the battery. The most common DC/DC converters used in conversions are made by Todd, Sevcon, Curtis, and Vicor. Special thanks to Lee Hart for the assist on this page. Suitable DC/DC converters for electric conversions are available from most EV parts suppliers. Follow this link for a current list.
  8. Home built electric vehicles have that same problem. they carry a 12 volt battery for accessories, separate from what they call the "traction pack" which drives the car. The 12 volt accessory battery can be charged off the traction pack by a transformer of some sort. The traction pack might be 300 volts. I will try to look it up, on Northbay EV website. I think using 12 volts for the lights would be easier.
  9. "The conrod length for the BMW pistons could be between 9.075" and 9.315"." So that won't work then, they're not even close I was hoping there'd be an easy answer. Something other than off-the-shelf Harley rods is needed.
  10. I can drive straight out to the coast and I will, or could, use the same roads used in the Hitchcock movie "The Birds" winding through hills or along the coastline. Driving around my local town or the freeway, on the other hand, is joyless, flat, traffic congested. We have a 9.5% sales tax which applies to used car purchases as well. So if I bought a classic car for $20k there would be $2k tax plus lots of DMV fees for title transfer registration.
  11. The MGTD market seems very soft. This very nice one went for only $11,250 recently. 1953 MG TD SOLD FOR $11,250 ON 5/30/19 http://bringatrailer.com/mg/td/ - link to lots of other low price sales.
  12. The Cycle Salvage Place? http://www.salvagecycle.net/ I could contact them and ask what is the longest, used rod set they have. 7.44 inch seems to be the most common. 8.375 would be hard to find, but you could get that new from a specialty supplier. Here is a couple off eBay: 8.00 inch eye-to-eye offered at $99 http://www.ebay.com/itm/8-000-Harley-Davidson-Twin-Cam-Connecting-Rods/333171179790? I THINK this set is 7.44, but it doesn't say only $41 http://www.ebay.com/itm/HARLEY-CONNECTING-RODS-SET-FITS-45-FLATHEAD-1932-1973-NEW/112475064818? I delete stuff sometimes, I realize I was cluttering the thread with stuff not too relevant. But anyway, if original is 9.75 that is much longer. 1.75 inches longer than 8.00. I think it would be a stretch to make them work. Also be aware these Harley rods can have different wrist pin diameters, different big-end diameters, and different big-end widths so you need to check all that. And I think the big-end width may present a problem too. And you will need a correct pin and machine it like the fellow who did with the Matchless.
  13. Just for information, the maximum rod length for Harley Davidson is 8.375 inch. For Indian V-twin is a little less, 8.15 inch. HD-BGTWN-08375N Length = 8.375 Pin end width = 1.060 Big end width = 1.754 Big end bore = 1.6250 Piston wrist pin diameter = 0.927
  14. It's interesting how the dude machined the flywheel(s) in that video to accept the new Harley Davidson "fork and blade" rods. It is like a pie-shaped area gets notched out. Then you've got to balance it. Balance it, without the rods of course, but with that new pin, or you might call it the rod big-end journal. It would seem that notched pie-shape area lightens that part of the flywheel, offsetting somewhat the weight of the new crank pin.
  15. Installing Harley rods in a Matchless V-twin. He used the Harley big end too, and machined it to fit the matchless flywheel. Thought you'd be interested in that part, how the Harley rods are adapted to work in a non-Harley engine.
  16. There are both Briggs & Stratton and Kohler V-twins, but their connecting rods are not fork and blade, they are side-by-side, and they seem short. So I don't know if maybe you could use the pistons from these, but you wouldn't want to adapt the connecting rods I wouldn't think. The Kohler V-twin is very common, for riding mowers, wood chippers.
  17. This is what the harley rods look like for 1981 and earlier apparently. Fits Vtwins: FL 1941-1981 FX 1971-1981 Features forged and machined H-Beam design of certified 4340 steel with multi-staged heat treatment. Rod assembly is fitted with Torrington rollers with extruded alloy cages pin and matching nuts. Rods measure 7.440" center to center and will accommodate up to a 5" stroke.
  18. No Sale; but at least the bids went up significantly toward the end. The following BaT Auctions listing has ended: 1913 International Harvester Model MW Auto Wagon High Bid: $19,000 (Reserve not met)
  19. It sounds like the computerized motor lifts the gate, and the struts hold it open. The mechanism isn't clear from this diagram. But if the struts are compromised an the gate starts to lower, you probably get increasing leverage making it accelerate as it drops.
  20. There was a recall of different vehicle for similar problem Recall 15V415000 Liftgate Falls Closed Without Warning Recall Details The power liftgate may fall suddenly from the open position due to the failure of the struts that support it when open. Dealers will update the software for the liftgate actuator motor control unit to prevent rapid closing of the liftgate free of charge to resolve the problem. Our Quick Take The struts that hold up the power liftgate may suddenly fail, resulting in the liftgate falling closed. If this happens, someone may be struck and injured by the falling liftgate. What Should You Do? General Motors will notify owners of affected vehicles (a timetable for notification is not available as of the time of this writing). You can check with your dealer to see if your vehicle is involved in this program. It is helpful to have your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) on hand when you contact them. 21. I counted 11 pictures of it on FB. I just copied and pasted some here, so people don't have to go to the link, and apparently for some the link doesn't work anyway. There are no engine pictures provided; that's why I didn't copy and paste one.
  22. VISIT DONATE RESEARCH & CAMPUS BUY TICKETS http://www.woodrowwilson.org/piercearrow When Woodrow Wilson returned from France after negotiating the Treaty of Versailles in 1919, a new Pierce-Arrow limousine awaited him at the dock in New York to take him back to Washington. The automobile had just been added to the White House fleet. Wilson favored this automobile so much that when he left office his friends purchased it for him to use. The car had received its finishing touches at the plant of the manufacturer, the Pierce-Arrow Motor Car Company of Buffalo, New York, in June 1919. It was the 120th of the "Series 51" model. From July, 1919, until the inauguration of his successor in 1921, President Wilson rode frequently in the handsome limousine on official business. The automobile was distinguished by two special emblems. On each of its arched rear passenger doors, the Presidential Seal was displayed. On the front of the radiator panel was the AAA symbol, for in 1917 he was the first President of the United States to join the association.

  24. I would think they are supposed to sell the assets which would include the stock of patterns. According to Kitaeff and Associates attorney Josh Burnett, the antique car upholstery company has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. He said the company may no longer operate and a court-appointed trustee will liquidate and sell off its assets, either through private sales or at auction. TrusteeJoseph G.
