  1. Car enthusiast Jon Blaikie bought a farm to keep growing ...
  2. What I find rather shocking is that this was originally a RHD vehicle, and the pedal arrangement with the accelerator in between the brake and clutch is the way it would have been done originally. To me it looks quite dangerous. Maybe a better configuration is possible. Drink-driving device.
  3. It's not meant to be a big-finned car. Bullet nose and tapered rear.
  4. My next door neighbor is parting out a Humberette too by the way. If you could use any parts, just message with your needs.
  5. I let a wrecking yard take a rusty car from me, and I gave him the title to go with it, what we call the pink slip. The way he took it made me realize he didn't really care about he title. I could just as easily gave him the car and kept the title. made me realize I could have kept it, and activated the registration on the vehicle that had gone off for parts and the crusher.
  6. It looks like the distance between the front edge of Frank's golf door, and the rear edge of the (front) door is about the same as the distance between the front and rear doors of a Tourer. I suppose everyone has noticed this already, but i thought it was worth mentioning explicitly. Do these pictures suggest the golf door could have been made by using a portion of the rear door of a 4-door Touring?

  8. OK, that's another key feature that goes along with the crankshaft moved "up into the Vee." Makes sense. Thank you for the information.
  9. George Hunt behind the wheel of the President “Speedway” Roadster with the AAA timing crew. The first order of business to prepare for the run was to develop a 7 to 1 high compression cylinder head, a high-lift camshaft with .375 lift, a 3.47 rear axle and carburetor jet changes. For a production record to be recognized by the AAA it required a run of 100 of the modified roadsters to be built. Studebaker named the special car the “President Speedway” Roadster and offered it in grey or black with red chassis, wheels and leather upholstery and a flame red cylinder head. The 337 c.i. nine-main-bearing L-head eight produced 122 h.p. http://theoldmotor.com/?p=152608
  10. Interesting. I was wondering about that. So the axes of the cylinder bores would not intersect with the axis of the crankshaft. Or maybe it's better to say the centerlines of the bores do not intersect with the axis of the crankshaft. I would think that would adversely affect performance, and maybe cause greater wear. At TDC would the connecting rods be aligned with the bores?
  11. \ Casting date code H - 8 - 15 translates to August 15, 1928. 8= August, 15= 15th day, H=1928 according to what I found.
  12. Apparently that lawsuit does not apply to American XT 10W-40 Only to the 30W, not the multi weight. Because the 30W has no additives fro modern engines. Additive Name Additive Function Antioxidants oxidation control Dispersants varnish control Antiwear agents minimize valve train wear Antifoamants retard foaming Anti corrosion prevent corrosion (Fe) Lubricity additives improve metal wetting Metal Detergents keep surfaces clean Viscosity modifiers high temperature viscosity increase Pour point depressants allow oil flow when cold Seal swell agents ensure seals do not leak Metal deactivators reduce catalytic effect of metals Corrosion Inhibitors prevent rusting (Cu, Zn, Sn) Extreme pressure additives prevent scoring and seizure Friction modifiers reduce or increase friction The 30W has none of these. The photograph below is a close-up of AMERICAN XT SAE 30's back label, which includes the warnings, "IT IS NOT SUITABLE FOR USE IN MOST GASOLINE-POWERED AUTOMOBILE ENGINES BUILT AFTER 1930" and "USE IN MODERN ENGINES MAY CAUSE UNSATISFACTORY ENGINE PERFORMANCE OR EQUIPMENT HARM.": The 30W is grade API-SA which means no additives. API-SL has additives fro modern engines. FINALLY there is PROOF !!! In an internal report dated November 8, 2004 the "Alliance of Automotive Manufacturers" (Members at that time were: BMW, FORD, DaimlerChrysler, GM, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Porsche, Toyota and VW) compared the obsolete but still widely available API SA engine oil with in 2004 current API SL category (ILSAC GF-3). The two oils were tested using two standard ASTM tests: ASTM Sequence IVA = low-temperature Valve train wear test ASTM Sequence VG = test for sludge and deposits No surprise: the API SA oil failed both tests ! Results: Oil Filter clogging, extreme scuffing on camshafts, oil starvation on cold start up. Conclusion: "Engine life would be short, regardless of the oil change interval"
  13. Pedal arrangement is something. Excuse my ignorance, but what is this horizontal shaft linkage circled red here?
  14. The aluminum melted in the fire, which must explain the cover for the differential is missing, it melted away.
  15. I would contact BARRETT JACKSON who sold it at auction in 1997. They would have some information in their files. Who owned it at that time, what the known history was. Usually they know to what country it was sold when new. Ask them to look up lot #152 at their 1997 auction. Lot #152 1929 STUDEBAKER PRESIDENT 2 SEAT ROADSTER, BARRETT JACKSON CLASSIC CAR AUCTION 1997 Barrett-Jackson Auction Company, 15555 N 79th Pl, Scottsdale, AZ 85260, Phone: (480) 421-6694
