  1. I think the key is that the license plate numbers were published in a newspaper, and that newspaper scanned, and can be searched using the Google Search engine, which searches for "strings." Strings can be words, groups of letters, multiple words in a particular order, multi-digit numbers, etc. If you search a combination of strings, the number on the plate + NY or New York + 1911 as the known year, then something might pop up. It looks like ALL the New York license plates for 1911 were printed in that newspaper issue, July 1, 1911. And plate number 65465 is there. Look at all that personal information above, all the license plate numbers, vehicle makes, owner's names and addresses.
  2. Seller's Description 1942 Packard Clipper Super Custom One-Eighty Convertible. Inspired by Packard designer Robin Jones renderings as shown in The Packard Cormorant, #73 winter 1993-1994. It is not likely that it is the long missing pre-war factory Clipper convertible test mule. The engine casting date is 8/1/41, # E500149. It starts easily, and runs well, without any overheating, strange noises, or smoke. The transmission, overdrive, electromatic clutch, brakes, etc. work properly. The power windows, seat, and top mechanism are all in place, and activate the hydraulic pump, but there is no fluid in the system. $48,500. Please call for an accurate description, additional information and photographs. Less

  5. Vintage car enthusiasts will find plenty in Brooklyn Life to feed their passion. The Motoring section contains images of early motor cars and earnest discussions of the value of "self-starters" and other innovations, the virtues of new models such as the Peerless Standard 48 h.p. six-cylinder touring car, or the Buick Colonial Coupe. The magazine notes outstanding drivers such as Mrs Pauline Stern of New York, as of 1911 "the only woman in America who was ever able to control a Transcontinental 'Big Benz 50.'" Mrs Stern, her son and her chauffeur drove across America "From Hell Gate to the Golden Gate" on a single set of tires. A BUICK MODEL '34' 32 HORSE-POWER RUNABOUT. Going over a part of the bank at 188th Street, East of Broadway, that no other motor-car has ever climbed. If you doubt this picture is accurate drop in at the Buick salesroom, Broadway and 55th Street, and A.L. Newton, the retail sales manager, will see that you get a demonstration over this very spot.
  6. For those of you who do not use facebook Clive Cussler · February 23 · Rainy days make beautiful sunsets. We’ve been getting ready to shoot the photos for the new Sam and Remi Fargo adventure “WRATH OF POSEIDON” book jacket. Can anyone guess what car this is? Hope I'm making it hard. Clive Cussler Yesterday at 8:28 AM · It is with a heavy heart that I want to share the sad news that my husband Clive passed away on Monday. It has been a privilege and a great honor to share in his life. I want to thank you, his fans and friends for all the support, for all the good times and all the adventures you have shared with him. He was the kindest, most gentle man I ever met. I have always loved him and always will. I know, his adventures will continue. Clive Cussler, July 15, 1931 – February 24, 2020

  9. I believe it measures the "Lambda coefficient" like the oxygen sensor does in a modern fuel injection system. How much excess oxygen is in the exhaust. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exhaust_gas_analyzer Lambda coefficient measurement Main article: AFR sensor The presence of oxygen in the exhaust gases indicates that the combustion of the mixture was not perfect, resulting in contaminant gases. Thus measuring the proportion of oxygen in the exhaust gases of these engines can monitor and measure these emissions. This measurement is performed in the MOT test through Lambda coefficient measurement. The Lambda coefficient (λ) is obtained from the relationship between air and gasoline involved in combustion of the mixture. It is a measure of the efficiency of the gasoline engine by measuring the percentage of oxygen in the exhaust. When gasoline engines operate with a stoichiometric mixture of 14.7: 1 the value of LAMBDA (λ) is "1". Mixing ratio = weight of fuel / weight of air - Expressed as mass ratio: 14.7 kg of air per 1 kg. of fuel. - Expressed as volume ratio: 10,000 liters of air per 1 liter of fuel. With this relationship theoretically a complete combustion of gasoline is achieved and greenhouse gas emissions would be minimal. The coefficient is defined as Lambda coefficient If Lambda > 1 = lean mixture, excess of air. If Lambda < 1 = rich mixture, excess of gasoline. A lean mixture contains an excess of oxygen. The surplus oxygen will react with nitrogen to NOx (Oxides of nitrogen), if the temperature is high enough (around 1600°C) for enough time to permit so. A rich mixture contains a deficit of oxygen. This makes it impossible for all fuel to combust completely to carbon dioxide and water vapour. Hence, some fuel will remain as a hydrocarbon (HC), or it will react only to carbon monoxide (CO). The carbon monoxide concentration in exhaust gases is closely related, and almost proportional to the air fuel ratio in the rich regions. It is, therefore, of great value when tuning an engine. Carbon dioxide emitted is theoretically directly proportional to the fuel consumed at a given and constant air fuel ratio. Less carbon dioxide will be emitted per litre of fuel if λ < 1, since some fuel won't be able to combust completely.
