  1. Same building. Lincoln Highway Garage The Lincoln Highway Garage Association was formed by 12 Columbus businessmen at a meeting for the purpose of erecting a modern garage building. The stockholders decided to incorporate for $50,000 and to put up a one-story, fire-proof building of brick and steel construction. In 1915, as a result of the incorporation of the Lincoln Highway Garage Association, this service station garage was built. It was located on the intersection of the original plat of the Lincoln Highway as it entered downtown Columbus. Concrete plaques with the word “Garage” are affixed to the building above the garage doors on the south and east elevations. By 1930, this garage was sold to Ed M. Nielsen and operated under that surname for 74 years. 23rd Avenue & 13th Street, Columbus, Nebraska
  2. I certainly would like to find one of these quality old machines. Not likely to happen.
  3. It doesn't belong in the United States. It'd be nice to have but just as an oddity, something quirky. Should be listed on Pre-War for sale back to Britain. https://www.prewarcar.com/cars

  6. Someone said a car rusted away in a sealed shipping container because of the trapped moisture. And the person who put it there assumed it would be preserved as it went in.
  7. I am living in a threatened power outage area right now. "Pacific Gas & Electric Co. is considering a second intentional power shut-off this week in parts of 20 California counties, including portions of the North Bay, the utility said. The shut-off would start Thursday morning, when dry, windy conditions are again expected to ramp up wildfire danger, the utility said. It would include 1,481 homes and businesses in Sonoma County, 1,774 in Lake County and 3,750 in Napa County." In the past I have had power out for a full week, but that was mainly due to an active fire situation. The planned outages can go from 8 hours to 36 hours usually. They do not just switch it back on when the winds die down. They must inspect ALL the power lines before turning it back on, because theoretically there could be a tree branch laying on a power line. It got very windy Sunday night. Seemed strange. Nothing unusual at all, until late like 10 pm the strong winds kicked up out of nowhere.
  8. A document was put up showing 21 volts. That makes sense if it were 18 volts because you would want a generator that puts out 21 to charge 18 volts worth of batteries. A 12 volt battery is actually 12.6 because lead-acid gives you 2.1 volts per cell just based on the chemistry, so 6 cells is actually 12.6 volts and typically a 14.5 volt generator or alternator would be used to charge that. So by proportion, you would use 21 volts to charge 18. Also you could run 6 volt lights directly with 18 volts if you wired them in series. 3 bulbs wired in series with 18 volts applied would give you only 6 volts across each individual bulb. The wiring diagram shown above shows bulbs wired in series. That's not to say the trucks weren't wired differently. maybe they were. ( It's clear the headlights are wired in series, not parallel )
  9. I rode as a passenger in the back of my mom's 1969 Buick Electra 225 4 door. Mom had a '53 Buick, then traded it for the '69 Electra, then traded that for a '76 2 door Buick Electra. Mom's last car was a 1985 Buick Regal.

  12. It really looks like an antique car, the hood hammered out of sheet metal by hand.
  13. It also may help to add a little lacquer thinner or reducer to the paint after mixing it up, because thinner tends to spray easier without the droplets showing in the finish. So practice spraying just a bit on some scrap before spraying your actual piece, adjust the tip of the gun and the paint air mix so not "blobs" are coming out, you can see the spray pattern. An even mist without any big droplets.
  14. I just use a small low horsepower compressor with a 7 gallon tank. Very small, inexpensive. And a syphon gun, only around $40 I think. HVLP you can get an adequate gun affordably too. Tip 1.3 mm I think it was. Followed the instructions on the gun I bought on using it. I think 60 psi for the syphon gun I had. You should also put a filter to trap water between the tank and the gun, so you don't get water vapor or droplets coming out with the paint. The finish for the primer/sealer is not critical as long as you don't put runs in it. I just sprayed several very light coats. I mean I went over it several times lightly. Then let it dry. Then repeated. Ended up with the matte finish sealer coat. Prep the bare metal. Wash all oil off with mild soap and water then you wipe it down with the "metal prep" stuff the paint supplier sells which i think has a mild acid. Then you could do acrylic lacquer over that, and if your finish does not come out as glossy as you want do more coats then fine wet sanding and buffing. There's more than one way to do this but the point is it can be done without going overboard. Personally I'd rather do it myself, because for one thing I have more confidence in the epoxy sealer coat getting a good bond to the metal, compared to what some low-budget shop might do.
  15. Here is a book describing the Leece-Neville ignition and generator. You need to page ahead to Page 11. It is covered on pages 11 through about 20. Click link, then page ahead until you see it. https://www.google.com/books/edition/Automobile_Engineering/ZpBAAAAAIAAJ?gbpv=1

  17. You can paint it yourself if it's just the fenders, and black and you willing to accept less than perfect match. I'd go for it. Start with a "2K" primer/sealer in black. 2K refers to an epoxy type primer, good adhesion to prevent rust. Mix the two parts together to activate, a hardener gets mixed into the paint. Spray on metal that's been prepped with cleaner, degreaser. I have done this, sprayed some rusted auto parts that I cleaned up. Instead of just painting them black I used the 2K stuff because I thought it would stick better. That's why they rusted in the first place, just black paint that did not stick well, peeling off allowing it to rust.
  18. "Today we're at this abandoned yard. We've been buying some machinery and cleaning up some stuff for this lady, a very nice lady. We happened to peek in a shed over here, there's an old car in here, asked her about it, and she's like "Yeah, go for it."" So she just gave it to them because they were cleaning up some stuff.
