  1. Immaculate. Are those current pictures? I mean recently taken?
  2. Good point. Selling a car comes with liabilities. Most donated cars in my area, regardless of what charity you call up, end up going to the tow yard, the same one you'd call to have a car hauled off for scarp, and the same one the police use to haul abandoned cars off the streets. Then the charity has an agreement with the tow yard, some cars get auctioned and go to dismantlers or whoever bids, and some go straight to scrap. And the charity gets the proceeds minus the tow company's cut for their costs. So the charity may get very little, but they also have no hassle. https://www.autowreckerssantarosa.com/cash-for-cars/

  4. I suppose it is still for sale and he probably hasn't seen your comment. In the mean time, here is one being auctioned and we will see what the market has to say about value. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1954-kaiser-darrin-4/ CURRENT BID: $44,444 Comes with a removable hardtop too.
  5. Sell the car for the most cash you can get, then donate that sum to charity and deduct it from your taxes. The charity will get more that way.
  6. Things are changing drastically in California. I have some left over epoxy paint that isn't even allowed to be sold in the sate any more. Many of the "PPG" products are not allowed to be sold anymore. Only the lowest "VOC" types of paint are allowed to be sold. And they are going in the direction of allowing only water based paints for automobiles. It's been that way with house paint for a while now, no more oil or alkyd paints for the house. Painting pros are learning how to use water base on cars and supposedly those products are good and getting better. I'd imagine that with water base paint the prep and cleaning and de-greasing is even more critical. The last time I bought epoxy primer it was of a different brand and lower VOC that the type I bought previously which was no longer available. So yes materials and techniques are changing over time and what state you are in matters a lot too.
  7. The song was written by Roger Christian in collaboration with Brian Wilson. Supposedly Roger Christian was the car enthusiast responsible for the details. The car pictured on the cover of the album was inspiration, but doesn't match up with the description. The car was written up in the July 1961 Hot Rod magazine. It just says the rear end is a 1955 Oldsmobile. Says nothing about being an lsd, definitely doesn't say "Big Slip."
  8. I always understood it to be pink slip, that he had it in-hand, and was not afraid to wager it, wasn't going to lose. Not simply ownership because you wouldn't buy a customized hot rod from a used car lot with financing.
  9. I will email this guy. He included it in his tech article. Kraig Scott, of Pro Gear, specializes in rear end and differential work.(J. Daniel Jones) Rear end and differential service by Pro Gear Kraig Scott 7948 Ronson Road San Diego, CA 92111 (858) 571-1158 progear7948@yahoo.com "The limited-slip differential, with brand names such as Positraction, Sure Grip, Anti-Spin or Safe-T-Track, was an essential weapon in the muscle-car wars of the 1960s."

  11. Kimo from Kaunakakai Hawaii, Ca "Pink slip" versus "The Big Slip Daddy" - Hate to burst your collective bubbles, but I was a neighborhood friend of Dave Marks in Inglewood, CA and I helped him learn the lyrics to LDC for the single and the album. Sorry, it's "Big Slip Daddy", folks. The song is enumerating hot car equipment of the day in this stanza. A "Big Slip Daddy" is street rod talk for the optional and prized Chevy/Corvette/Mopar limited slip differential rear end on the rear axle. A high performance option that meant a fast street rod capable of an even-tire burnout. Factual and short & sweet. At your assistance. PS: "Pink slip, Daddy" makes no sense at this point in the lyrics, Daddy.
  12. Maybe it refers to "Big Slip Locking Collar." Four wheel drive locking differentials have a slip collar that locks the differential. Maybe this early 60's LSD was a locking, slip collar differential.
  13. "Big Slip" if it is correct would refer to the differential torque needed to make it slip. A worn lsd would slip at a low torque. Higher torque be better for racing. I'd take Big Slip to mean "High Torque" to slip.
  14. Were the official lyrics published when the song was released?
  15. No You could spray it with the sand-able primer though, and sand that with a fine grit.
  16. The limited-slip differential, with brand names such as Positraction, Sure Grip, Anti-Spin or Safe-T-Track, was an essential weapon in the muscle-car wars of the 1960s. This is documented in the often misheard lyric in the Beach Boys classic, “Little Deuce Coupe.” The actual lyric is, “There’s one more thing, I’ve got the big slip, daddy.” “Big slip” was ’60s hot-rod slang for a limited-slip differential. The San Diego Union Tribune
  17. What does Big Slip Daddy mean? “A 'big slip daddy' is street rod talk for the optional and prized Chevy/Corvette/Mopar limited slip differential rear end on the rear axle. A high performance option that meant a fast street rod capable of an even-tire burnout.”

  19. That's right! I have learned the correct words in the past and been disappointed. What I had imagined the words as being was more interesting.
  20. Title was called "The Pink" for short.
  21. I really recommend those foam sanding blocks I mentioned earlier.
