  1. Nice Terry! Since you are diligently checking temps after each drive, might I suggest keeping a log of date, time, and the temps that you read. That way you can catch a trend, like a slow increase on the packing nuts, and possibly prevent a problem. Sorry, my engineering mind at work. Cheers, Dave
  2. How heavy is each assembly? Can one person move them easily? I am thinking they could lift the car and then jack stands placed and then the jack assys lowered and moved out of the way to enable all-around access True?
  3. I will have to look further for info on the K code I read about somewhere. Maybe it is supposed to be a W. I do know mine was built with a very shallow space where the spare normally resides, and a center support bar making it impossible to put a spare in that space.
  4. I am about 90% sure the engine in my 40 Super is a replacement engine. Painted black with no evidence of 1940 gray underneath. My rod bearings are Babbitt. My serial number is in the correct place. I read somewhere that Buick sent out a stamping kit with the engines so that the dealer would stamp the old number onto the new engines, although this was not always done.
  5. My 1938 66S is supposed to have a K on the plate somewhere as it was built as a dual sidemount with no trunk compartment for a spare.
  6. I have Dback Auburns on my 40. Tubeless. No problems. Ran a 1k trip last summer. Did 100 mi today. No probs. I also have Universal Lester's on my 38, also tubeless. No probs there either.
  7. So with the carpet up you are looking at a large square hole in the floor and you can easily see the pedal linkage going to the clutch and master cylinder (and the ground)? I am not sure about 1950 cars but my 40 and 38 both have a small rectangular metal panel with 2 holes for the pedal shafts with slots cut above them. You slide the cover over the shafts and it screws down onto the floor pan.
  8. Wait. Dumb question. Is the floor board piece around the pedals there? Take a pic with the carpet up.
  9. This is my buddy Irv's car. I assume it is a 233 engine. The carb is a small 2 barrel. Is it a Stromberg EE-1? Throttle linkage on engine side. There is a vacuum start switch on the manifold. It looks like there is a tag, have to get more pics.
  10. 248 unless someone swapped it to a 263
  11. Maybe the 4 barrel intake is off a 1952 320 engine?
  12. Yup, same on my 1940. On my 1938, samecalso but am about to change to Millers 140 GL-1 on the trans.
  13. If you have the right regulator for the 38s, follow the procedure in the shop manual to set voltage. It should be about 7 vdc. Cheers Dave
  14. Yes according to service info I have. The screw has to come out
  15. Compound carb? Maybe the weighted butterfly on the rear carb is opening for some reason?
  16. How does the tube assy attach to the plenum/firewall? Maybe you can remove it and work it in the shop.
  17. Nope, not a clue. Just about all of my car repair/maintenance experience has been on pre-1978 cars. On my newer cars I just took it to a dealer or mechanic and embraced the suck. I will likely do that with the Lucerne as long as it seems feasible, but once I get to the $1500 a visit stage (got there with my 2003 Caddy DTS) I will have to make a decision. Hopefully not for a while. On the pressure test, I have a kit that I have adapted to the older cars and it works good. I still have the modern adapters. Are you talking about pressurizing to 15# and watching for leakdown or something else? Cheers, Dave
  18. He landed in Orlando FL. Part of Massey-Grindle, I think Dodge, and also a bunch of smaller used car lots. When I went to my grandparents' in Ormond Beach for the summer I recall seeing his ads on the Orlando channels. This was mid-60s to early 70s. Usually he would be in the sales lot as a parade of cars went by with him shouting at 5 miles a minute. He would always climb on top of the last car to end the commercial. Sometimes they were live and I remember on one car the roof caved in!
  19. I just picked up a creampuff 2006 Lucerne. It's a CXS with low miles at a deal I could not pass up. I have been scouting for a shop manual or even an aftermarket service manual but am coming up dry unless I want to fork out $400. Anybody have something they would be willing to sell? Cheers, Dave
  20. Art Grindle! Massey-Grindle dealership in Orlando. I want to sell YOU a car!
  21. Yeah, they both light up with bright lights. I guess Buick wanted to be sure!
