  1. Here is a link to a vehicle listing of the auction. Lot's of great cars and trucks. Dave https://www.vaultcars.com/art-austria-auction-1971
  2. In 1964 my mom got a brand new dark blue Buick Riviera and we took off from Detroit to go to the grandparents house on Long Island. It seemed that a lot of the truckers were blowing their air horns as they passed. She said it was because they were friendly but as I look back on it she was a great looking blond in a great looking car. They never blew the horns when my dad was with us. We had a great trip. Dave
  3. Well no but at least it is set to 5 after 5. Dave
  4. I checked it all again with the ohm meter, a test light and the amp meter and it was good to go. The lights work, starter turns, everything seems to be working except the clock. Thanks again for all the help. Dave
  5. jdome, Thanks for the info I will give the tests a try. No vehicle battery is in circuit at this point I am just checking my wiring harness and my work. Dave
  6. I think you are telling me I should not use an ohm meter to test for shorts, I thought it was an improvement over my past method watching to see what catches fire! I will put a battery in and use an amp meter to see how it goes. Thanks Dave
  7. Thanks Hook. Bloo, No ground on either terminal. I did the diode test and it was .610 on one meter and .521 on another. When the leads were reversed, 0. So I went back and tested for the positive grounding problem and nothing showed up when everything was connected as it was. Could the testing of the diode have changed anything? thanks Dave
  8. Thanks Bloo. I had heard good things about these and it was on the generator but I like the original Delco-Remy unit better. Going back to try your tests, here is a photo of the cutout. Dave
  9. To start I am electrically challenged. Testing my new wire harness I started with the battery to amp meter and found it was grounded. Under the dash I traced it to the wire coming from the cutout. With the bat wire off the cutout nothing is grounded on the positive side. On the 20k scale the ohm meter reads 7.25 with the cutout connected. Since I don't really understand the diode conversion is this normal and no worries or do I have a bad converted cutout? Thanks Dave
  10. It is frustrating at times. I had finally figured out the lean condition and it was running great and then the exhaust manifold broke. Got that back and it was running great and I broke it again! I have the Chevrolet wired and ready to run on its own power so getting close. Dave
  11. Communicating with Jim has been difficult according to recent customers comments on other sites. About 7 years ago I was a satisfied customer but found calling him at about 8 in the morning his time was best. There were reports of health issues as well so he may not be doing the work anymore. Dave
  12. Posted before but I found these 1937 dog racing tickets is a 1931 Chevrolet Cabriolet door. I bet the window was rattling and they tried to stop it with these. The fair grounds are gone but one building remains as a church. Dave
  13. Nice car, looks like you have been around awhile and know about the Vintage Chevrolet Club? It is a good source of information if you haven't. There are some very knowledgeable guys in the San Fernando VCCA region, reach out to Carmine. Dave
  14. Research Uvira Optical reflectors. I have heard many good comments about their process and customer service. Dave
  15. Great info. You are a brave man! Dave
  16. If I was going to do this I would remove the valve cover and put penetrating oil on each valve stem before turning it over. I would make sure each valve is free. I have had better luck removing the starter and using a pry bar on the ring gear teeth to see if there is any movement. Before running, unless you know it is clean, I would remove the oil pan and clean it and the oil pump screen. The carbs and fuel pump should be gone through as the rubber is old and likely to leak. You can use a remote fuel tank, think boat or mower, but the vehicle tank will need to be cleaned up before using. Sorry if any if this is a repeat. Dave
  17. That is tough news but I have to pull everything out anyway. It must not have been intended to be an inspection cover or we are missing something. Thanks Dave
  18. Mario, I have the same problem as you and the cover won't budge. I was thinking I am missing a hidden bolt or two or maybe 90 years in the same place has frozen it to the other parts. I am finishing up the Chevy and should have it moving under its own power soon. Then the Buick goes in that bay with the lift and I will be able to get a better look. I don't remember the dowels or the lip but I could not get a good look. Dave
  19. It is a thick cardboard like product, I forget the name but upholstery supply places sell it. I am sure others sell it as well. Dave
  20. Kenneth Hoods Garage, Austell , Ga. has done that work, mostly Fords but has done Chevrolet's. Our VCCA Region toured his shop. Give them a call and see if they are still doing the work and can help you. Dave Kenneth Hoods Garage Inc 5707 Powder Springs Rd Austell, GA 30106-3230 (770) 948-8011
  21. Interesting bio in the back of the Elderly Auto's book which has a lot of how to info on tops and upholstery. Dave
  22. My father had a couple of service stations on Long Island in the late twenty's and often talked about a chain drive Simplex turned into a wrecker. Any chance that it may have survived? I suppose it would have been turned back into a car if it did survive. Anyway, it made quite the impression with my dad. Dave
  23. Thanks, that was very interesting. Dave
