  1. Yes they are the fuel pump guys. The 6139 listed as the heavy duty pump in my catalog is a D series. Sounds like you are making progress. These pumps are pretty obscure so I probably won't have any performance info but it will give me an excuse to be in the cool basement while looking! Dave
  2. The 6139 is listed as a heavy duty pump. Dave
  3. That book will only have old AC numbers and not any of the other information. If I were you I would try these guys at; then-now-auto.com My 31 has a fuel pump someone built for it with a hand primer, it is useful but I looked around for the original. Then and Now offered to build me one from their parts but I found the one pictured above. I will take a few photos of the 31 Buick parts of the catalog and post them soon if that would help but the main numbers are above. Dave
  4. Tom, What info do you need?
  5. I have some old books, this one is the best for the prewar AC pumps. Let me know if you need anything from it. Dave
  6. I believe this is what it looks like;
  7. The bottom cover 855228 fits all of the the B series AC pumps which would include among others 29-33 Chevrolet. The body number for the 31 Buick pump 855751 should be 855785, rocker arm 1521745, and top cover 1523358. Dave
  8. I am not sure on yours but I have used roofing paper/felt or tar paper in those kind of places. Not sure of the proper name. Dave
  9. These guys are my go to on fuel pumps. Dave https://www.then-now-auto.com/
  10. I usually have it on the front seat or passenger floor board. I use to secure them but that would be difficult except in the trunks. Seems like the trunk would be to hard to get to in a hurry. Where do you keep yours? Dave
  11. A quick look on Amazon shows 1.5lb, 2.5lb, and 5lb Halotron extinguishers. Nothing would be worse than running out and the fire still going but what would be a reasonable size for Halotron? Thanks Dave
  12. I gave you some bad advice. I just went under my 31 and dropping the flywheel cover won't help. I blame that on my memory! What I believe I used was a long screw driver to get at the bolts and get past the cross member. It looks like two on each side with be tough but not impossible. I had to drop mine about five times, ten years ago so I thought I would remember the process Good luck Dave
  13. Check with The Filling Station, https://www.parts123.com/ Excellent source for Chevrolet parts. Dave
  14. You should probably go to the shop and let him explain it so you can see what he is talking about. Dave
  15. Good recommendation by Rusty on the manual. You can get them many places I got mine at The Filling Station. While the pan is off you can check the rod bearing clearances per the manual. You can also make sure the check ball in the rear main bearing is free to move or has been removed. One other thing to do is note where the long pan bolts go through and hold the breather and another the oil line. Remove the nuts on them first. Just thinking through things I wished I did the first time I removed the pan. Have fun! Dave
  16. You should have access to those by dropping the fly wheel cover first. There is a process for putting on the gasket that helps keep it from leaking. I followed the advice from the VCCA site guys and my 31 does not leak at the oil pan. https://vccachat.org/ You can search the site for many past questions on this and other topics. You make 4 studs from 1/4 20 bolts to guide the pan. I use grease to stick the side gaskets on the engine first. The night before I have wrapped the end gaskets around a can with rubber bans so they take a circular shape and they go on next. Some have to be trimmed slightly to fit correctly. I use a small dab of gasket sealer where the ends meet the side gaskets. Then up with the pan. Good luck Dave
  17. Good point. It was outside of an old mill turned antique mall. My wife had a bad reaction to my interest in it so I will try and go back and find other clues. Dave
  18. Any ideas on what this is? Thanks Dave
  19. I have quite a few of the three spoke steering wheel cores for 31-36 or so. It would do until you find a wheel. Depending on the condition somewhere from $10 to $30 plus shipping. Send me a pm with your number and I can text you some photos if interested. Dave
  20. When it is running bad does pulling out the choke a little bit, say 1/3, help smooth it out? Dave
