  1. Thanks Rusty, I will give it a go and post a picture when done. Do you use striping tape on the edge and then masking or what is your technique on taping? Last time I did this it was lacquer, one color, and 40 years ago. Dave
  2. Thanks, all good advice. Walt I am using acrylic urethane. Dave
  3. Very nice car. There are companies here in the US that can re cast your steering wheel. Of course it is expensive and you have the shipping both ways. I would think it would be hard to find a nice wheel but you can put a want ad in that section of the forum and asking here is a good start. Hopefully someone that has used a steering wheel service will jump in and give you some names. Dave
  4. I am finishing up the fenders and aprons and will soon be doing the final body prep and start painting the body. The upper body color (dark green) which would include the rumble lid and the deck surrounding it, all moulding top and bottom, and the top of the door. The quarters, door sides, hood, and cowl are a slightly lighter green. The insert at the top of the door is light yellow. My question is do you paint the whole body one color and then tape that off and do the other? A friend suggested do the whole car in the lighter shade and go back and do the darker shade. I would go with that but when I bought the paint the supplier gave me a gallon of the dark and two quarts of the light. If the amount of paint I used on the fenders the 2 quarts may not be enough. My question is does it really matter and what would be the pitfalls going dark first? Thanks Dave
  5. That style was also used in the Fisher Body Cabriolets and coupes 31, 32, and maybe more in the passenger door. I have also seen them in another application but can't recall. Different design than my 31 60 series. Dave
  6. The Filling Station offers a remolding service for Chevrolet wheels. Your looks like one but I am not sure if it is the same, maybe they can help you. Part number R-3137. Dave parts123.com Sorry, I saw the picture of the GMC and thought you were asking about the GMC not the Buick. They probably are not a good source.
  7. Is it possible the gas tank vent is plugged? Try running it without the cap. Dave
  8. I subscribed about 2 years ago and they are all new to me. I learn something interesting with every issue. Dave
  9. Good point, if you do pull it off and it has 1521467 stamped on the arm that is the arm for both 38 Buick pumps. Dave
  10. That looks like a 37-51 Chevrolet pump, 429. Dave
  11. Great story and two great cars, thanks for sharing. Dave
  12. Looks the the BF Goodrich also has a little pie crust on the edges.
  13. The tire in the picture looks correct but is not a slick. It looks very similar to the BF Goodrich that were on my 31. Maybe someone is reproducing them? Dave
  14. Reading this thread and others I tried the molasses and it worked great. As Morgan said it takes awhile to get started. Any thoughts on how long it will last and do you just add more molasses and water to the mix after it weakens? Thanks Dave
  15. Pete, One other choice- It has been rebuilt, The good-all AC castings and the original number is on the flange. The bad-The diaphragm was probably pre ethanol so I would replace it and it is painted silver. $50 plus medium flat rate postage. Dave
  16. If that belt is a v type belt you might try someone selling Gates fractional horsepower (lawn mower ) or industrial belts. m-mman beat me to it. Dave
  17. You may find some info or leads here; http://www.scrippsboothregister.com/ScrippsBoothIndex.html
  18. Thanks for the info on the fluid. A friend gave me a vile of Sun manometer fluid and said it worked good in his gauge. I don't want to do it twice so I will get the correct fluid. Just curious does the .85 SG manometer fluid make it read low, high, or not at all? Thanks Dave
  19. You can get manometer fluid, try googling it. Dave
  20. About 1963 in the suburbs of Detroit my across the street neighbor was an air force vet who flew for GM and he drove a 61 Maroon Corvette. Most every year on his birthday he would buzz his house (and ours) with a P 51 Mustang or the company Convair. Different times. The builder next to him, also a decorated veteran, always drove Cadillac convertibles. The neighbor next to him had several vintage Cadillacs along with the usual. Most everyone worked or supplied the booming car industry. Dave
  21. In mine i have had to go through all of the joints and clevis pins in the system and replace with new. There was a lot of lost motion because of wear. Many others have had to remove the rivets and replace the bushings where the cross shaft rod turns. Keep lubing the cross shaft maybe you can free it up and it wont have too much play. Dave
  22. The arm on the cross shaft is adjustable but yours looks like it should work but may need to be moved a little. On my 29 the pedal moves the arm back and on my 31 it moves it forward. Maybe someone put the switch backwards. Not sure on your truck but you may be able to pull the floor board and watch the action or get a helper. I have been successful cleaning the contacts on those switches just go easy. Good luck Dave
  23. Nice car. Getting that radio in looks like a fun job! Great luck on the interior. Dave
  24. That is really nice work. I have been preparing and painting my 31 Chevy and can appreciate the hard work involved in such a great result. Dave
