  1. Hello everyone. Thank you all for your warm welcome and all of your help and advice. My mother got an offer and will be selling the car. $4500. I did not speak to the buyer but i'm told he's interested in restoring and keeping the car. It will be better hands than mine.
  2. Thanks Dave. It’s really tight down there maybe an inch or so between the lower pulley and the radiator. When I turn the fan, it slips in the belt. Any idea how big that nut is? Would removing the radiator for access be more trouble than it’s worth?
  3. hey all. so im having issues with NJ MVC as well. Mary, perhaps you could do a title search? if you dad registered the car in nj, then nj should have a record of what they think the numbers are, then just use that. the form for that is called DO-22. my dad's car has no title and no record of the purchase. If anyone has any knowledge of how i can best proceed that would be very welcome.
  4. as i am also in possesion (or pseudo-possesion) of an old buick, i found this to be quite helpful: the original poster has a series of videos about taking the enginge apart and all they did to get it back running. You are already pretty far along the rocess but it may be of interest. It sure helped me identify which parts were what and such.
  5. Thank much Joe. The car is in Scotch Plains, I am in Toms River. i'm up maybe three times a month or so. Where are you?
  6. Dave, any advice on where that lower pulley is? and how to get to it? is it below the fan? it's pretty tight against the radiator in there, and there's a metal plate on the bottom of the engine compartment...
  7. Following Dave’s advice and sending out a packet with photos and their form to the MVC to try and get it titled. No records in dads paperwork. also, took the plugs out, couldn't budge the fan....
  8. https://jerseyshore.craigslist.org/cto/d/lanoka-harbor-1950-plymouth/7416176208.html in Bayville, ocean cty New Jersey. Post has pix, can’t get them over on my phone
  9. Thanks all. It will be a long slough as I don’t live near the car. The garage it’s in is also very tight. I am visiting it today (and mom too). It looks like the spark plugs are newish, I know my dad replaced the battery, he prolly put the new plugs in it too. I’ll try taking them out and seeing if I can move the fan at all. really appreciate all the advice, and I will definitely keep you posted with updates. -Eric
  10. Thanks for the tips and checklist! and thanks for sharing your car, it looks great! the car is in union county, nj
  11. Thanks everyone. So I’ll start by seeing if the engine is free to turn. Then brakes and fuel system? What to look for there? As far as I can tell there’s no leaks, at least the floor under the car doesn’t show any. What should I look for when vetting a shop to do some work?
