  1. Tom, Does it need to be complete with solenoid?
  2. Ray, How are you measuring the torque of the starter? If there is any doubt as to whether the fields are 6 or 12 volt, just replace them with a new set of 6 volts. I'm not sure about availability where you are, but more than likely I can sell you standard 6 volts coils or High Torque 6 volt coils. i would need to see a picture of the old coils to verify. Let me know.
  3. platt-deutsch, Thanks for the referal! They have emailed me. For those who are curious, yes I can handle the rewinding and/or rebuilding of that starter w/o a problem.
  4. Ray, I just left this response for you in the other thread where you asked me directly. Hope it helps some. I am unaware of the comm length difference. A lot of the old 6 and 12 volt armatures have been superceded together, so if it did apply at one time it might not apply anymore these days. The armature really doesn't play a significant role in the voltage difference. The field coils however are very different. An experianced rebuilder would be able to tell the difference in the field coils by looking at the guage of wire used. The 6 volt coils uses a heavier guage winding versus the 12 volt. I would say there is a good chance that you have a 12 volt starter if you are experiancing a loss of torque after a rebuild. It's really hard to say for sure though. If you felt up to it, send me some pictures of the starter, internal if possible and I might be able to help a little more. Feel free to email me direct with these pictures.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

  6. I think the clubs are great and the members usually have an incredible wealth of knowledge. But, as for online forums I think any club would be crazy to try and start one now with this site. The AACA forum is the best of the best really. I rarely have any complaints. Just my two cents.
  7. Joe, I'll check and see if I can come up with a replacement. If not, I can rebuild your old one.
  8. Juan, I would be happy to help you with the rebuilding of your generator and all parts that apply. All I do is restore the old and rare starters, generators and distributors. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. Thanks,
  9. It comes up as webmaster@dodgebrothersclub.org If you go the website again. Put your mouse over the "contact webmaster" text, but don't click on it. Look in the lower left hand corner of your browser, it should show the destination email address.
  10. Here's what I come up with: Rickenbaker 1925 Model "A", Straight 8 Starter: American Bosch Type 947 Distributor: Delco Model 5276 or 5292 Generator: American Bosch Type: 1055 1926 8-B Starter: American Bosch Type 957 Distributor: Delco Model 5276 or 5292 Generator: American Bosch Type: 1066 Unfortunately, I think thats where my help stops. I'll check to see if I can come up with the units. Let me know if you need any other info, I'll check my books.
  11. I have NOS Delcos available. Mark, I sent you an email with the details. If anyone else is interested please call or email me. They are very scarce and unforunately very pricey. They were never reproduced in the aftermarket and Delco quit making them a long time ago.
  12. The words Auto Lite would not be on there. More than likely if it was an original or and NOS replacement you would find a A/L type logo. I handle NOS and rebuilt/rebuilding, so feel free to contact me if I can help in any way. To comfirm what the others said, It's definitely bad if you can't move the arm. Is it corroded? Having one that won't move at all is a little unusual.
  13. Mark, I'll check and see what I have or what I can come up with. I'll let you know sometime tomorrow. If you think of it, send me an email so I have your email ready to go. Thanks,
  14. John, By the way, are you looking to get rid of the solenoid and starter you have on here? Let me know.
  15. Should be numbers stamped in to one of the mounting feet where it bolts on to the starter. Feel free to contact me directly if you need further help.
  16. It's hard to tell for sure w/ all the grease and grime, but it looks like an Autolite starter which would not have been on a Buick. Can you find a tag on it or part numbers on the mounting foot of the solenoid?
  17. I have a diagram for the Metz w/ North East Model B unit. It shows (2) 8 volt batteries combined for a 16 volt system. Any chance that this is what you are talking about? I have all the Metz diagrams, but did not find the B2 system anywhere. I can check in my other books, but this is what I found at first glance. Let me know. 18. Orin, Just to confirm what we talked about earlier today. I have attached a photo of a solenoid I have here. You can see the two screws sticking out on opposite sides from each other. These two hold the cap on. Also note, the two large copper terminals are the ones I was referring to. Jumper these two together and you will then be bypassing the solenoid and going directly to the starter motor. Good luck and feel free to call me with any further questions. 19. Yeah, The first time it happened I went back and forth a few times. Then I finally told him to send me a picture and that was the end of it. They must be getting some people or they wouldn't be doing it.
  20. Just by listening to your video, I wouldn't suspect battery. It sounds like a healthy snap from the solenoid. Although it's hard to tell by the video alone. If you find problems with the solenoid, I can rebuild yours. I have one in stock, but it's pricey. I know Dave already mentioned it, but it can't be said too much. Be Careful With That Solenoid Cover!!!! An easy check before you even remove the cover is to put a volt meter on the actual starter motor stud after the solenoid and see if you show power there when the key is turned/when you hear the relay close. If you show power, but no action from the starter then starter is the issue. Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. 21. If you've ever posted something in the wanted section, I'm guessing you were contacted by some loser in the United Kingdon that had exactly what you were looking for. That must be one heck of a warehouse, anybody ever seen it? I've seen it discussed here before, but wouldn't it be nice if we could keep these clowns from getting to us. I like how open the forum is, but if these guys scam 1 out of 100 thats too many. How many non-registered guests does the forum see in relation to registered. Anyway, just wanted to vent a little steam! Jason Advanced Electrical Rebuilders www.aerrebuild.com
  22. I'd be interested in the starter & distributor. Please email me at jason@aerrebuild.com with what you are asking and if you still have them. Thanks, Jason Advanced Electrical Rebuilders www.aerrebuild.com
  23. Tom, Is his starter missing or does he have one that could be rebuilt? I'll have to check and see if I have a complete unit, but it's usually easier to rebuild the customers if possible. Jason Advanced Electrical Rebuilders jason@aerrebuild.com www.aerrebuild.com
  24. Can you send me some pictures of your starter? Include pictures of the damaged parts as well if you can. I may have a spare unit or parts. My email is jason@aerrebuild.com Jason Advanced Electrical Rebuilders www.aerrebuild.com
