  3. Al, I have responded to your email as well, but I'll put my thoughts on here as well. That to me looks like an industrial signal/warning style horn. Is there any "Type" listed, like maybe a "W", "WL" or "WS". I don't recall seeing any automotive horns like that in the past and when I went to the Klaxon horn manual it matches up pretty close to the industrial types. I could be way off, but that's my opinion. As for the diaphragm, I'd need to see it and possibly match it up. I won't be able to supply it based on the picture, even if you find the type. -Jason Edited: Actually if I would read all the way on to the next page, those industrial horns are listed for automotive use as well and it shows different mounting brackets available also.
  4. JJ, The best thing to do in this situation is repair (or have repaired) the original 6 volt components that are causing you issues. Yes, A lot of people do run their 6 volt starters on 12 volts, but it does indeed cause damage to the starter and its components. I can always tell when a 6 volt starter is brought to me that has been running on 12 volts. If you're lucky, you just burn through brushes faster than usual. If you're not lucky, you break the drive end housing (as stated above), damage the bendix/drive (most common issue) or bend and/or break the armature shaft. The information you found on the generator is a bit more confusing and misleading. A 6 volt generator does not in fact put out 12 volts and then get regulated down to 6 volts. Actually on a 1925, you have a cutout only and not a regulator. If you are convinced that you need to go to 12 volts, these units really should be properly converted to 12 volts as well with new windings. Again, my belief is that you need to repair the sluggish 6 volt starter, make sure you have good clean connections heavy gauge wire to handle 6 volt current and a good fully charged battery. Please let me know if I can help you in any way. I can repair your existing starter or convert your units to 12 volts, but as I said, I think sticking with 6 volts is the way to go. Also, I can always covert the starter to a higher torque 6 volt unit by changing the windings inside. I'd have to check and see if these coils are a stock item or have to be custom wound.   5. Alan, I do custom rewinds, but it will depend on what you are referring to when you say electric motors. DC motors, yes. AC (household) motors, generally no. Jason

  7. There's really nothing wrong with the original generator system if in proper running order along with good wiring, clean connections and a topped off battery. Someone mentioned battery tenders not being used for long term use, I believe it's just the opposite. Battery tenders are perfect for somewhat long term storage, like old cars that sit quite a bit. As for Optima batteries, I don't have much personal experience with Optima batteries, but I know lots of customers (Marty's one of them:D) with antique/vintage cars and they all love them.   15. The 6/12 two battery set up is a great way to do it as long as you don't mind having two extra batteries on board and don't forget to keep them charged. I've explained it to many people, some like it and some don't. Anyways, this thread confirms my thoughts that they are way overpriced. Maybe when I get some time, I'll tear in to one and see about coming up with a six volt version. Thanks for the response all! -Jason
  16. I don't think Radio Shack would have anything to handle the kind of current needed for a starter. They would have fairly light duty resisters.
  17. It's hard to believe they even sell enough to keep offering them with the high prices. Their suggested retail on the 6 volt only version is actually $950, but I figured I could sell them at $800 based on what they quoted dealer cost at. I might just have to get a hold of one and take a peek inside to see what we can do. Geez, just what I need is something else to do. Ask Marty, it's not like I'm looking for something else to do.   18. I've never jumped 6 with 12, and would never recommend doing so. I'm not calling you a liar either, if you're comfortable doing it, go ahead. I've heard stories of batteries blowing up, so I'll avoid it. Even if you've done it 200 times, 201 could be memorable! Thanks for the feedback, keep em coming.
  19. HaHa! No, its not made by Lucas. It it was, you'd end up with oil stains all over the trunk somehow! I don't think were quite comparing apples to apples (Jumper cables to jump box), but thanks for the feedback. Like I said, just looking for feedback. I thought the price was too high myself or I wouldn't have asked.
  20. I'm looking to get some feedback on whether or not to become a dealer for European made 6 and combination 6/12 volt jump boxes. The pricing seems a bit high to me and I would like to get some feedback from the people that may be interested. The price for the 6 volt would run around $800 and the price for the combination 6/12 volt would run around $1200. These prices do not include the freight charges to me getting a skid load here. That cost would be broken down per piece and added to the total and I'm not sure what to expect there. I guess I can see a club or event having one on hand to help people get their cars started at a show or tour, but not sure how many individuals will want to spend that amount. I could be wrong though, so i'd like to hear from all of you out there. Please reply with your feedback so i can make a better informed decision. Thanks, Jason
  21. I have looked in to becoming a US dealer for these 6 and 6/12 volt booster/jump boxes from the European company listed above. I'm hesitant to make the leap because the price is higher than I expected. The price on the 6 volt only would be in the $800 range and that doesn't include the shipping per piece that I would have to pay to get them here. I'm not sure what to expect the shipping to run on a skid load, but that cost would be on top of the $800. The combination 6/12 volt unit would run around $1200! I'm looking to get some input from the car owners and potential customers for this product on the pricing of these items. Please let me know your thoughts. My initial thoughts were that it was close to double what people might pay, but I could be wrong. Maybe a guy with multiple cars would really benefit from having one around.
