Intermittent NO-START on 65 Riviera Gran Sport
dr914 replied to Craig Balzer's topic in Buick Riviera
sounds like a bad starter solenoid to me, one way to check is to put a test light on the small solenoid lead when it will not start and see if when turning the key to "crank" if the test light lights. If it does the starter is bad and should be replaced -
I had bilstein make them for me

I would install Bilstein gas, what a difference!!!!

Makes the front end of the car look too heavy, takes away from the light weight sports car look of the original -
best to get Gene's repro, the fiberglass will not last and also welding and rechroming will be way too expensive
-
very very nice looking.

That of course was a joke. Randy used to rebuild the center leaks, but went WAY sideways and conned many many people out of their money. The one he did for me was bad and he never refunded my core charge money, had to get it redone somewhere else (cannot remember where) but he was the (bad) "talk of the town" for several years. Just goes to show that there are bad apples in every bunch. He is on the exact opposite side from Gene Guarnere who will go out of his way to help ANY riviera enthusiast day or night. Long life Gene God bless and God bless in Heaven Wild Bill.

Randy Rymal will set you right up (LOL)

pretty neat info! When I first worked for Chrysler Corp as a trainee in the Atlanta Zone office, we had to punch the computer cards for the orders that came in from the Dealers. One had to be very very careful, as the wrong punch could order a red car with a green interior, or a loaded top of the line New Yorker with no air conditioning, or a Aspen GT without the gt package on it. The assembly line could not stop so the workers all laughed as they assembled a "mistakemobile" !

those seats need restoration not just recovering, I would replace both buns and the springs, and powder coat the frames
-
keep up the good work and I personally congratulate you on bringing back another first generation car
-
although the mirror itself is attractive, it is totally out of character for a gen 1 riviera!!!!!
-
TOTALLY agree, and even if you get it out, with the foam backing washing it will destroy it, there are kits that are virtually exact available

those 65 headlamp assemblies were the best looking feature of the 65 (I like the rear 63 64 tail lights better). My dream would be that someone would come up with a bolt in headlight front grill conversion kit for 64 64 models. I BET many would purchase it

the reason for the high prices these days is that there is no one to do the work, so the few that do charge exorbitant prices as they are loaded with work and can hire no one to help. A ready to go turn key nicely done car is therefore now worth 40 percent more than it was ten years ago and people are happy to pay the price. WE in our Porsche shop have at least 30 cars waiting for mechanical and welding restoration and another 30 at the body shop we use, and would immediately hire four more mechanics and five body men if we could find them
