Mike On my car they are leather, should be easy to make. I would be happy to take pictures for you if that will help. Jim -
Loosen the 7/16 nut and use a big socket to remove the bearing cap then remove the spindle nut. the rear outer cap is the same as the front. Then a large clip holds the axle in, remove clip and thread a bolt with a large washer on it into the end of the axle, use 2 levers to remove axle. Then you will need a special 8 sided socket to remove the spindle nuts, do not hammer/chisel these. Do not over tighten the front bearing on reassembly. Jim Bourque

29 cadillac running poorly as the weather has cooled
Jim Bourque replied to BillhymerMD's topic in Technical
In the 1920's gas was closer to kerosene. That's why carbs/intake manifolds were heated, the heat vaporized the gas. Today's gas does not need or want the heat. As far as carb icing in Phoenix AZ, I doubt there is enough moisture in the air for that to be a problem. As another poster on these forums says "90% of carb problems are ingnition related".... verify your ingnition system is working as it should, you may have more than one issue. I am not a fan of electric fuel pumps on carbs that were designed to run a vacuum fuel pump, especially on a carb as finicky as the Johnson/Cadillac. If you need parts for your carb, Classics and Exotics has Viton tipped needle and seat, gaskets and a modern material float that are top quality. If you are not comfortable rebuilding your carb, they can do it for you. I hope you get that beautiful classic back on the road soon Jim -

I have the same issues with my 1928 341A when the gasoline changes to the winter blend. The point at which the fuel boils is much lower in the winter blend. The Cadillac V8 is very sensitive to this due to the carb sitting between the exhaust manifolds. My work around is to stock pile enough summer fuel to get me through fall and early spring. Check out Reid Vapor Point Arizona on the Internet for more info i would also also recommend disconnecting the 2 carb heat pipes rom the exhaust manifolds to the intake manifold. Jim -
Bernie You could cut some plywood sheets into big discs the same diameter as your wheels with tires, spigot hole and bolt holes to fit your hubs. Should be strong enough to roll the Humber around your shop and you won't have to worry about messing them up or your wire rims. Jim

Hugh looks like you have done a nice job on resizing the pot metal. Have you addressed the possibility of continued swelling/cracking? Or is the pot metal stable once it has swelled? Jim B -
Alex That would be fine...you could also text to that number your address so I can start to figure out the best way to ship this to you. I have never shipped anything across the pond and would appreciate any suggestions from others who have done so. Jim Bourque

Would this work for you? The one with the bolts in it (lower one) is 1925 Master, the one with the straight edge is 1924 Master with the casting number 167174, casting date 2/14/24 Jim Bourque

If my memory serves me correctly, I think I read a thread on the prewar Buick section concerning a problem similar to your direction issue 5/7 years ago... A Buick steering box was disassembled for refurbishing and when reinstalled the steering was reversed. Something about the half nuts being installed backwards. Jim B -
Sent my 25 Master 6 rocker arm shaft to Electronic Chrome & Grinding in Santa Fe Springs California. They did an outstanding job on mine, quick turn around and reasonably priced at 165.00 including return delivery. Yours my be more $ as its longer and it's been 4 years since I had mine done. Jim B

heavy wear in 1924 6 cyl oil pump
Jim Bourque replied to Oregon Desert model 45's topic in Buick - Pre War
Kevin I have a spare 1925 Master 6 oil tube and a solution for rebuilding your oil pump. It will require some machining. I just went through this with my 25 Master and I believe the 25 parts I have will interchange with the 1924 Master, maybe Leaf will see this and verify. Let me know if I can help. Jim -
On my 28 341B the thermostat was missing. I installed a electronic regulator that is hidden inside the generator housing so it looks standard. With that there is no need for the thermostat or the third brush. James Peterson in Bend Oregon makes the electronic voltage regulator for 6 volt generators for the Ford people but could posibly build one for your Delco unit. Very reasonably priced IMHO. Friartuck has made some excellent points that need to be checked out as the basics need to be correct. Jim Bourque

I made a new one out of stainless steel. It could be polished to look close to plating and probably last longer. Before I made this I brazed my old one a number of times... Jim

George Both of the flywheels I have are 15 7/16 diameter with 122 teeth. I don't have any idea what the perfect one is worth... I have attached pictures of the other one. Call me at 802 380 2410 Jim

The oil pan and the rear main cap will have to be removed to drop the flywheel down. I assume you have pulled the rear axle back and removed the transmission and clutch. I would also inspect the sliding gear/1 way clutch assembly for damage as tht could wreak a good flywheel. Your starter generator must be working properly for engagement speed of the gears. I may have available a serviceable flywheel.

Help with a seized engine on a 1932 Model 86 Buick
Jim Bourque replied to a topic in Buick - Pre War
A couple of years ago I bought a used 1925 Buick Master 6 engine that had sat for a number of years. The Pistons were not rusted to badly, but the camshaft was stuck to the cam bearings. I would try and get some penetrating oil to them. Good luck Jim -
Here are a couple of pictures of a 1925 Buick Master 6 speedster my father built about 25 years ago. He styled as close as he could to a Stutz Bearcat.

Kevin The 24 and 25 Masters both used the same 268 Delco S/G. Jim
