Hi,

Some of you may have been to my seminars that I have given over the past 16 years, called "Reel cars" , where I showed 16mm car films.  I want to thank you if you did.

Well I just got a email blast telling me, that my seminar was not picked for this year by the "committee".  So if you come to Philly this Feb, looking for my seminar, this is why you will not find it.

What brothers me is that, as far as I know nobody from the committee has been to  one my seminars!

The lady who is now In charge of the seminars since last year, not only has she never been to my seminar, I have never meet or talked or gotten a email from.  Except for the one today.

So after 16 years, this is the thank you I get.

Michael

What do you mean by blast ? Were they critical of your past seminars or are they just going in a different direction? Did you question their reason for change ? Wayne

Your seminar, Reels of Cars, has been the best seminar

at Philadelphia!  I have enjoyed the old car ads and

vintage car videos for several years, and they are

best shown in their original 16 mm. medium.

When the AACA Library was showing car films

that had been digitized, they were interesting, but

they were NOWHERE NEAR AS CLEAR

as those shown in their original format.

I wouldn't take the decision personally, as I know

AACA likes to vary the seminars over the years, and

they are trying to enliven the event.  But your seminar has

always been well attended, and since you have so many

different films to select from, it's different every year.

I hope all goes well this year:  Whether the seminars are

interesting to me is a major factor in my decision to attend

each year.  (I don't go just for the soft pretzels, but they

are a tasty bonus!)  Last year, Friday's seminars tended

to be on administrative subjects only, and it didn't seem

worth it for me to attend for 2 days.

I trust they will have good seminars for Friday and Saturday

in 2016.

I agree that you shouldn't take it personally, they're apparently just trying to vary the content.  The "rejection letter" states that there are only 42 seminar time slots available, and there were 60 applicants, so if it makes you feel better, there are 17 other people crying in their beer!

Will be interesting to see the schedule when it comes out...

Hi,

First I want to thank you members you sent such nice replies about my seminar "Reel cars".  After sending a few emails and some work by the AACA.  They were able to reschedule my seminar for Friday afternoon 1:15 to 2:45.  Of cause I will have all new films, shown on a real 16mm projector, the way they were meant to be seen.

I just heard about this thread and despite leaving work at 8 tonight I have come back to work as this needs a reply (computer at home is sick!).

Last year upon the retirement of our seminar coordinator we got a new coordinator Stacy Zimmerman to work with the seminars.  Stacy last year did in fact visit our seminars as well as others on the national meeting committee.  Upon completion of the meeting she sent out a thank you and a questionnaire asking if people wished to provide a seminar again in 2016.  That information was funneled to the committee for recommendations.  The criteria for inviting people back was many fold and did not take into account someone who has done it for one year or many.  There has been a request by our members that we do something different and try and change up the seminars once in awhile.

We were pleasantly surprised that most wanted to come back and we got some new seminars along with a special panel discussion about the new TV series that will "star" many AACA members.  It should be a unique an interesting look into the making of a prime time TV series.  Sadly though this meant losing some seminars.  We need to make this clear this was NOT an indictment that some seminars were not good enough or even great.  It was just changing things up and someone(s) was going to lose out.  An AACA Director lost his slot, a committee chairman lost his spot so this was not about favoritism.  It was a tough decision.  Stacy works full time an like a lot of younger people she relies on the electronic world to stay in touch as her phone rings constantly during the day.  Could we have communicated better?  Sure but no bad intentions were had.

When Stacy got Michael's email about being disappointed she immediately huddled with us to see if there was a remedy.  Fortunately there was and Michael is back on the schedule.  David, we are trying to get you back as well and appreciate your understanding!

This is the first year in my 12 years here that the schedule has been done this early!  In the past it has only been out a couple of weeks before the annual meeting.  Now it is done early and people can plan their annual meeting excursion.  We are greatly appreciative of Stacy's hard work in getting this done early as it is not easy corralling everyone!

Ah John, are you paying for the room rent? :D  Actually, there is another after Michael's but we are very happy his seminar has been accommodated and appreciate his passion for doing it.  Sadly, though MY seminar on left handed monkey wrenches has been yanked! GRRRRRR  It was going to be great!

Darn, I was looking forward to that one, especially since that moderator is right handed! ;)

I also want to express appreciation for Stacy, Steve and others taking on this big project. I've been involved in seminars for many years and know it's a difficult task to organize things, striving for a good selection of "core" seminars that provide info to help our regions and chapters, as well as a mix of educational and entertaining seminars.   It's always tough to strike a good balance given the limited time available.  It's a true blessing that this club has such tremendous talent to draw on.    It's what makes the AACA Philly experience so great each year.  I hope that someday soon, some of them can be video taped and made available on the website for more to see.   Technology allows that and I believe it's something that can add great value for AACA membership.

Dang! There was gonna be a seminar on left-handed monkey wrenches? As a Southpaw I wouldn't have missed it,

but it probably would've conflicted with my first-time contribution to the model car seminar (glad we made "the cut")...

Photographing your models is an easy way to get them out of the display case and share them with friends and family.

Myron, John and I will show you a quick, economical way to do it, with no Photoshop or trickery involved.

Plus, you get to "play" with your cars, so bring your camera and a favorite 1/43rd scale model.

I'll supply the Airstream and Shasta trailers.

Also happy that "Reel Cars" is back in; with the variety of seminars to choose from, it's difficult to pick which to attend.

Sorry that I hadn't noticed it before, newsreel-type films are a favorite subject and this will be my first time. Can't wait!

Got the schedule in the mail and it'll be hard to choose - a great variety.   I see the Region/Capter Officers Training seminars are in good hands, and we've got Dave Bausch on the calendar for a look at his great antique toys, as well as more of his superb automobilia collection.  You know where I'll be that morning!   Looks like I get a year off this time as my proposed brass car seminar didn't make the cut.  Oh well, brass is stil beautiful!

Michael,

Technology has caught up!  For about $500 you can buy a nice HD video camera, the recordings are unbelievable.  Use the HD camera to record your films and post them on utube.  Please send out a link to the page so we can all see the films!

PS Hope you can rectify the situation, love the old movies, I rent them just to see the cars.  My favorites are from the 1930s
