Likewise, it was nice meeting you folks, Olds442. Though brief, nice to put a face to a keyboard. "Congratulations" on the 1st Junior. Takes a lot of work, but, pays off.

As for Buffalo, we'll have to make time to chat. Always fun.

Had a good trip back to Reading, PA. Saw a Swift Transportation driver near Marion, PA on a right on ramp. Turned on my CB to let him know I moved over. This was great. We started talking about the Hagerstown Meet, it gravitated to the Antietam Battlefield, and, we wound up talking Civil War History all the way up to Carlisle, PA. To boot, we passed quite a few show cars along the way, so, that was a nice experience for both of us.

As for the Meet, the show was really great. I mentioned to the folks at the DF meeting how amazed I was to see so many in the Truck classes and very impressed with the amount & quality of cars in the DP Class. (Either for, or, against the DP class, my gratification was none of us would have ever had the opportunity to see such a wide variety of unusual and quality cars had the show been limited to vehicles in the "judging classes". Those DP cars simply would not have been there.)

I agree that Hagerstown was a generally well run meet. I agree with AL69ss about the parking, although I think the region was stuck with it, and that the guy parking trailers on Friday did a great job. He held my space for me when I went out on Friday afternoon to run the race car. I actually think I was parked next to you - I had the little blue race car that is also a fresh ground up restoration and not really designed to "dirt-track" through the corn fields. We also received our first junior, the car is filthy, but I loved ever second of it!!

We had a great time at the meet. Karen and I really enjoyed meeting so many of you. the Mason-Dixon region did a fantastic job of putting this meet on. The facility for the show was especially nice. The trailer parking as I understand it was a last minute change forced upon them as the land owner decided to plant crops in the original grounds (across the street from the show) provided for trailer parking. So all in all the trailer parking was just fine. Congratulations to all of you who brought your beautiful cars to the meet. Without you there would be no meet for others to enjoy. Looking forward to Buffalo now. I guess I better start cleaning the Messerschmitt! grin.gif

My father and I were there with our woodie, we got our First Preservation, had the car selected to have pictures taken, and we're getting ready for Buffalo next month. I got to see Earl Beauchamp, David and his father, Peter J, and finally got to meet Steve "oldscarnut", Janet Rickets, and I met Ron Green during the judging process.

After I was done judging, I stayed at the car because my dad found a fender that we needed for one of our upcoming projects (that we haven't been able to find at Hershey for several years). By the time my dad got the fender to the truck and got back, the DF meeting was over. I gave Peter pictures from Carlisle, Metropolis, and Hershey to post on the site and I'll give him the pictures from Hagerstown in Buffalo. I got to meet several of the people from Mason Dixon region, and it was good meeting them. They're a good group.

Nice show...drove down in an all original, low mileage '68 Caddy which we showed for a friend who was under the weather. Although Dad always had Caddys when I was growing up and I did most of my dating in a '64 I'd forgotten what luxury liners they really were. Kinda nice floating down the interstate at 70+ mph and steering with 1 finger. Only thing though, I had this strange urge to rush home to watch Lawrence Welk.

I to had a great time and also looking forward to Buffalo. The only negative I could find was the drive from the show grounds to the hotel thru the city. But I guess that?s the way it is when trying to drive an old car in a crowded area with people who are in a hurry especially on a Friday.

Nice meeting all and ex98 please put blinders on when judging my Pontiac at the GN. grin.gif

Hey how about that weather...!!!!!!!!! Usually it's warm and muggy, but not this past weekend... just wonderful. Yes the county's ag ceneter is a fine place, one local commented that they'd never seen the place so packed with people.

I was selling parts in the vendor barn and not having anything especially valuable (lots of useful stuff might I add) I didn't bother to cover up the tables and parts. After the BBQ was over most of the crowd migrated pass the vendor barn to the music barn, and it was funny as I had more customers shopping and looking during the band's performace than I had all morning.

Ron,

I won't be judging your car in Buffalo. For one I don't have enough credits yet. The other reason is that my dad and I are bringing both the woodie and the pickup so I will be with the truck and he will be with the woodie. This will be our first AGNM that we've ever brought a vehicle to, and I am curious to see if we can take two vehicles and take two awards. I don't know how many people have attempted it and successfully done it, but we're going to try.

...I might stop by your car if I should forget to shave grin.gifgrin.gif

All kidding aside, your car is the first car that I've ever seen that had the optional electric razor with it. What kind of options were available for the girls that bought those?

You'll have a great time. The Annual Grand National is something really special. I have never attended one that I havent truly enjoyed. I once took three vehicles (Dayton, Ohio 1992) and that was a state of confusion. Thankfully Karen was with me as well as my oldest son, they did all the work. We judged at that meet as well. I always rathered not be around the cars during AGNM judging it made me nervous! I am glad I did it but wouldnt try to take three again. Thankfully they were small. Have a great time in Buffalo I will see you there. With only one vehicle this time! smirk.gif

I'm a little late, but I'm here. Been away on a much deserved (if I say so myself) personal vacation. The Hagerstown Meet was terrific and there were many wonderful cars there (and yes Steve, I've seen another Model A Duesenberg---in the woods in Annapolis, MD in about 1964...great car Dave Berg--glad you brought it). I had a wonderful time circulating among the participants, thanking them for coming and bringing their beautiful cars. I didn't meet them all, but a lot of them. I think they appreciated having the AACA President drop by and thank them for coming. And ex98, were you and your dad able to follow up on that piece of a 41 Plymouth station down near Washington, DC, sitting in a field, that I told you about? If you reach the owner, he'll sound just like W.C. Fields on the phone, so you'll know you've got the right man (smile). Special thanks to the Mason-Dixon Retion for putting on this great show. Earl Beauchamp, President, AACA

Without making phone contact, I don't think that long truck and trailer trip is worth it. And, too, it's been almost 20 years since I saw this car sitting on the farm. Although I'm pretty sure it's probably still there, there may not be enough left to even bother. The man is now at least in his mid-80s, but a wonderful guy.

ex98 just got back from a weekend camping with the Amphicar and my 9 year old nephew. I taught him how to drive it in the water and he seems to enjoy it.

Pontiacs had a few accessories for the ladies as advertised and I have some.

The curb feelers were to prevent them from rubbing the whitewalls off (Pontiacs words not mine), the purse holder which is kind of neat along with the tissue dispenser and make-up mirror.

Earl it was nice seeing you out and about talking to everyone. I remember when John Myer made a point at the national meets to meet a lot of people and they do appreciate it. See everyone on Buffalo.

Ron ~ 25 years ago when Bill Smith was AACA President and I was the newly appointed Judges Training Director, Bill took me aside and told me to go with him out onto the show field after the judges breakfast at Hershey. What Bill told me was that it was very important for the AACA president to go out among the members and mingle. After a couple of hours of mingling Bill turned to me and said, "One of these days you will probably be AACA president and don't forget what you learned here today about mixing with the members." Well I took it to heart and when I became AACA president I practiced what was told to me by Bill Smith.

From 1988 until I left the Board in 1997, I preached what Bill had taught me and how important it is. John Myer was one of 4 newly elected directors about 12 years ago and I was big brother to that "class." John was the only one to go on to become AACA president, but he and the others received the lesson I had learned from Bill.

It certainly looks like that has become a continuing tradition among AACA presidents right down to the present. Good work, Earl. Pass on the tradition.

Howard, I think you know better than anyone, from very long experience (1963 at the Towson Chesapeake Region meeting) that I am very strong on being close to the average individual member, and championing the average automobile from the past. I will admit that it feels a little strange, like being a politician, to go around shaking hands, but I do think the members appreciate it, and it thrills me to do it. One fellow who I approached twice to shake his hand accused me of having Azheimers....something I hope he was incorrect about....but with 650 cars it was hard to remember who I had visited and who I hadn't. I've tried to be the same ordinary guy I always was. Somebody challenged me and said I wouldn't be, but I want to prove that person wrong. When you work up from the bottom you don't forget what the bottom was like......I hope. My Judy is having a good time, trying, rather successfully, to turn everyone out there into "huggers". The important thing to do here is not to take yourself too seriously. I'm still the same guy, son of a laundry truck driver, who is trying to find somebody I can afford, who will restore my '56 Buick for my 50th H.S. Class Reunion. And also Howard, I promise not to send you any pictues that might carry a virus, , but just think what you will miss, in addition to any virus', it could be a beautiful BUICK.
