My Dad was the original owner, I inherited it about 2 1/2 years ago, garage kept since new, speedometer stopped working when I brought it home, car probably has about 275 miles over what shows, from car shows and taking it for small drives to keep things flowing.

  • Top is original with clear glass back window, no leaks other than around side windows when squirted with hose, hard cover parade boot comes with car.
  • Paint shows well but does have flaws, with some door dings still not bad for 49 years old.
  • Exterior color is Cerise Firemist.
  • Car drives, shifts and stops with no issues.

I like this car a lot, and if it had been for

sale a few years earlier, it might have been

added to my garage!  The "cerise" color

makes it distinctive among 1975-1976 Eldorados

that are available by the truckload.

The price isn't too bad--at least within normal

negotiating range.  Thanks for posting your

interesting finds, Fin Seeker.

I recall all the hoop-la about the last convertible ever to be made, then the renewed availability across most of the industry a few years later. The bottom dropped out of the market and they were quite difficult to sell.

Things change!

There are a lot of low-mileage 71-76 Eldo convertibles around.

For $23K, everything (except maybe the clock and radio) should be working.

Good-looking car.

The 76 was the first "instant collectible" that I remember, followed by the 78 Vette Pace Car and the 89 ZR1.   The last one was quite the bubble when Chevy decided to keep making them.

It sure makes a statement! Makes me think of that old Roger Miller song

"I see you drivin' down the street in your big Cadillac. You've got girls in the front and girls in the back. Way in the back you've got money in a sack...both hands on the wheel and your shoulders right back"

I think in another 25 years these may be the very top of value for cars of this era. Won't matter to me....

This one was for sale not to long ago with 2500 original miles.  Strong money but probably the best one in the world.

As we collectors know, 1975-1976 Eldorado convertibles

were saved in large quantities.  Even today, many still have

very low mileage as you cite.  Were they stored correctly,

or are some now mechanically deficient due to decades of

disuse?

I would never pay much premium for ultra-low mileage.

This "cerise" car with 54,000 miles is to me a better choice!

I think a good amount of the premium on the black car is for the black/black/black and the overall condition.

For reasons I don't understand, a '76 is worth considerably more than a '75 despite the '75 having a much lower production number. Is it the "last convertible" nonsense? The addition of 4-wheel disc brakes? I don't know, but a '76 will always bring more than a comparable '75.

That is strange. I like the fender skirt ones better myself.. 😊

In California, the 1975 doesn’t require smog testing.

The 1976 requires every other year test on a dynamometer with an exhaust sniffer! 😲

No rolling age exemption, been that way for decades and will be forever.

Do you think, Matt, that it's just a statistical

anomaly?  There are many ultra-low-mileage

1976 convertibles, and they will often bring

significantly more.  When they're calculated in the

1976 average sale, might they not skew the average

sale price higher?

Fuel injection was optional. I'd guess only 10-15% of '76 Eldorados had it. Not sure I'd pay a premium for it given the scarcity and frailty of the electronic parts, unless it was on some crazy low mileage car I didn't plan on driving.

When these were new I thought "those plastic fender extensions look and fit terrible and won't last."

One question to ask about a car like this

is, "Have the soft bumper fillers been replaced?"

They all crack eventually and need replacement.

Replacements are readily available, but they must

be properly fitted and painted, and the job could

cost $2000 in toto.  So be aware of a sizable extra cost.

Reducing the price $500 at a time, summer's going to be over before buyers even get interested.

Someone sees your car advertised.  They like it but they are turned off because it is overpriced.  They forget about it and move on to other ads.

But you believe that if you play Dutch Auction and lower your price regularly then the people who are interested will soon swoop in and close the deal.

Wrong. Either the potential buyers never look at your ad again assuming that once overpriced always overpriced or they assume that other buyers have arranged to see it and they have passed based upon condition.

We have seen it plenty of times here. A good car priced right is quickly sold.
“I bet that won’t last long” and it doesn’t.

But these sellers are not car people.  They don’t understand.  Unfortunate really.
