  1. In remarkably good condition. No AC in Georgia must be a tough sell. Not too far gone yet! Last pure Exner Imperial. I always liked these with their electroluminescent dash. Not a fan of the four door, but not a bad deal.
  2. Never work. My wife even offered to park outside, but I nixed that. Car would be vulnerable to cat thieves, shooting out windows vandals, not to mention hail and all sorts of other inconveniences. We both drive her car, and my Merc has the other bay. There's always offsite storage, and I did that for 4 yrs. but hated it the whole time... I'm just grateful that my home's attached garage is 23' deep and 22' wide, so there is sufficient room for my landyacht, and even a little bit of work space.
  3. I was surprised he had a couple of pics with the top up. Didn't look too bad, but would definitely need a personal inspection. That's the first year for the dreaded scissors top. The paint is gorgeous! That's probably when those small trim items got lost.
  4. Hilarious! I don't think you realize it yet, but you're doing everything right. Even this disappointing auction is more valuable experience. Keeping the wife happy is never an unworthy goal. The fact that you are a couple years over fifty and find these brass era cars exciting should tell you something too. You live in a great area with a valuable home. I wish you continued good success, and that you find the car you seek soon!
  5. That's not woodgrain. It's a horrible bronze veneer that deteriorated in a very ugly way. It was a bad one year only idea. The '67 had a lovely woodgrain. I think the front end was also poorly executed update of the '67, which was better looking IMO.
  6. Although belated, I saw your posts and thought I'd chime in. I had my "brake pressure differential block" or "distribution block" or whatever you want to call it, pushed off center when a brake job was done some years ago. I unplugged the pressure switch to keep the light off until I was able to find a new pressure switch and the tool that holds the piston centered while bleeding the brakes. (It's very hard if not impossible to reset the switch once it goes off center.) I got a used block to put on the car in the meantime (also uncentered) during which time I had my original block rebuilt by White Post Restorations. (They also do the proportioning valve) Then with the centering tool already in, the rebuilt block was installed, then the new pressure switch was put in where the tool was, once the bleeding was done. Then I could plug in the wiring from the car, and everything is back to normal. 👍
  7. It's a pretty rare configuration, and looks good, upgraded brakes. Still only a Chevy can get those crazy prices. I like this Chevy, but not at that price.
  8. My experience with Mercs is 1. join the IMOA club. It should come in handy at some point, although not terribly active. 2. find a fb group for your project car. I am on a fb group for 69-70 Mercury Marquis/Marauders, and that group has been worth its weight in gold for info and parts. There are other slightly less specific fb groups for my car too. In fact I only joined fb for the car groups! (and their marketplace) which has lots of good stuff also. You're already here on AACA, which I only found recently, even though I have been a long time follower of the "Not Mine" forum, even when I wasn't a member here. 🙃
  9. Non-ethanol gas burns hotter. Plus it's safer for our old carbureted cars. Glad you posted!
  10. Me filling up with non-ethanol gas on 3/24/24. I had 1/2 of a tank of leaded 110 Octane CAM 2 Sunoco Racing Gas still in the tank from November. (My station doesn't get the CAM 2 until later in the spring.) I got 13.1 mpg on this tank, which for Winter isn't too bad, as I let the car warm up a lot before cruising etc. I average between 12-14 mpg generally. This fill up was $66 @ 4.89/gal. (13.5 gal.) The CAM2 Racing Gas runs around $10/gal. 429 Thunderjet (10.5:1 compression) 2 barrel. I don't drive the car enough to get too worried about the cost of gas, averaging 2k or less per year. (currently 43k miles on clock) I keep detailed records of every gas purchase.
  11. I think this was the best looking Imperial, especially the coupe. Looks totally unmolested. Interior may be expensive to redo. Hope the electroluminescent dash lighting still works.. A real big plus if it does. New price should be very tempting.
  12. I owned one of these '67s, and based on the pictures and the sellers description, it should be a fantastic cruiser. Price may seem high, so if a personal inspection proves everything is as good as represented, it should be money well spent. Last Imperial with real wood veneer inside, and first with front disk brakes. (though an uncommon configuration, so check brakes well.) Unibody, so check undercarriage well too. Continues Chrysler torsion bar front suspension, so check that car sits properly.
