Poor DeSoto. squeezed out by its Mopar siblings.  The same size, overall features and powertrain available in a Dodge Polara or Chrysler Newport for $70-$75 less.   Guess it came to which styling one liked the best and whether one had a loyal dealership relationship.  One had to be a diehard DeSoto fan to buy a 1961 model.

What a beautiful car. Everything from the styling to the condition. The bad part was DeSoto at this time was having some very real quality control issues. I'd like to know if there is something hiding under the throw on the drivers seat.

And then there's the price! Ouch!

It's an interesting car, that is in fantastic shape, but there must be a back story why this car only has 19k on the odometer. The car may very well be worth the ask, but 38K in your pocket opens a lot of doors in the used car market. GLWTS

There’s rare and then there’s desirable.

I agree that the 1961 DeSotos aren't the

pulchritudinous items they ought to be.

I wonder what their desirability is among

true DeSoto fans.

When designer Virgil Exner was coming up

with that front end styling, couldn't the executives

have chosen a better design?  Was that the

best one he had, so they said, "Great!  Let's

go ahead with that one!"

I’ve never actually seen someone use the word pulchritudinous other than in a long ago SAT prep course…..so points for that.

It’s interesting, in great shape, well optioned, not the most interesting color, but must be one of the nicest left.  I’m just not convinced that raising the price is the way to sell it. I would have thought the money stops somewhere in the low 20s.

I love it! The styling is standard early '60's Mopar weirdness, but with a car this uncommon and clean, that makes it all the more cool, especially in 2 dr ht. If I saw this at a car show, I might ignore all the other vehicles.

I get the feeling the designers didn’t speak to each other very often.  But hey, it’s different and you won’t see many like it at the local show or cruise night.

I didn't like them when they were new; "'59 Lincoln grille with a blow hole above" is what my young eyes saw. Neighbor two doors down had one.
