1960 Dodge Dart $800/ not mine

Recommended Posts

The "rusty" part is a little scary, but it doesn't LOOK rusty. A Floridian once told me that Florida cars are rusted out underneath where it does not show. Any truth to that?

I don't know why people get so would up over "ran when parked". That phrase does have meaning, or at least it did 40 years ago. In any event, assuming the 318 listed is the original engine, it is a wideblock 318. 99% chance there would be no problem making that run, and it's a stick! Fun on a budget if the rust isn't too bad.

I had a 1980 Dodge 3/4 ton pickup. I bought it new. I lived in northeast Maryland at the time. In 1990, I moved (with pickup) to New Mexico. In 2008, I moved to Colorado (with pickup, part way).

The truck didn't look rusty. However, Chrysler apparently used water colors to paint the frame and underbody when it was manufactured. It had become the most serious rust bucket I have ever seen. It was unsafe.

To be fair, Chrysler's use of water colors was only part of the problem: In northeast Maryland, the protocol was that, if it became overcast during winter, the county salted the roads.

I traded for a newer Dodge pickup (2005) that apparently had a random computer malfunction and would die unexpectedly when driving along the highway.  But that is another story.

Anyway, I agree that a vehicle can rust out where it doesn't show - and not just in Florida.

Since this car is so close to the Florida coast and salt air, there are no really detailed pictures of it,  the seller is stating the car is RUSTY, the condition is listed as SALVAGE, the hood is folded over and this is the first year for UNIBODY Chrysler cars, I would avoid it altogether. When all this is taken into consideration that low $800 price is meaningless. Pass, move on to something else.
