Seller's Description:

1960 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 2-door Sedan

  • Mileage: 68,000
  • Interior Color: Teal
  • Doors: 2 Door
  • Transmission: 3 Speed Auto
  • Stock #: 607K17543

A magnificent find sitting in the garage of the original owner’s home 20 years after his passing. The recent settling of the Owner’s Estate has released this incredible survivor Olds into the sunlight it had not seen in many years.

This 3rd Generation Olds 98 was redesigned in 1960 to have a much sleeker Grill and flatter rear trunk line that significantly improved the demand for the 60 Model.

  • Still wearing its original factory seat covers, near mint headliner, perfect uncracked steering wheel, original spare tire and jack and the great surprise was finding the protecto-plate with the original owner’s name stamped on it after looking through all the vintage items in the Glove box.
  • Showing only 68,000 miles, the original 371 Cubic engine fired up after a fluids change and fuel line flush. The Dynamic 88 came standard with the smooth running 371 rated at 240 horsepower.
  • The 3 speed transmission after servicing feels strong and shifts smooth as silk and is riding on new 14” radials on the original rims with hubcaps.
  • It’s a survivor car needing new carpeting and some minor rust repair on the front fenders which if we get to it we will fix before selling.

*We highly recommend each car is inspected by a third party prior to purchase

Don't understand the mention of 98 in the description. The up side is that it is the coupe that isn't seen as often as the sedan or the four door hard top. The down side is that it is the Dynamic 88 (entry level), but as 55er says you get the four speed transmission. This is unfortunately coupled to the 371 and not the 394. All of that said I would find value in the fact that you have an Olds Coupe from 1960. Careful inspection needed as rust is apparent. Also this is a no frills car, no power windows, no clock, don't know of power steering and brakes.

Power Steering  (pump) is evident in the top right corner of the engine bay picture-

can't tell if power brakes but wouldn't bank on it-

For a Full-sized Olds, this is a stripper - the most basic of basics

The Dynamic 88 was a step DOWN from the (regular) 88,

which itself was the standard model,

and a "lesser" car than the "98" of big Buick Electra (think Roadmaster used-to-be) size.

Lots of B...$h#t and flowery prose in the ad - but the car doesn't seem as "pure?" as claimed - rust areas, etc ...

Second note to seller: If you actually found a GM Protecto-Plate among all those vintage items in the glovebox, it couldn't have been for this 1960 Oldsmobile  since GM didn't start issuing them until 1965. Surprise! Additional pictures on the seller's website indicate this car does not have power brakes. There were three Oldsmobile models available in 1960, the top of the line 98, the medium priced Super 88, and the lower priced Dynamic 88 like this example. The Dynamic 88s were by far the biggest sellers in 1960 with a production of 189,864. They made 97,913 Supers and 59.363 Ninety-eights.

After 40 years of feeding high compression 394s that do not like modern fuels, a low compression 2bbl 371 is attractive.

13545 1960 D88 two-door sedans built. This one came from Kansas City assembly.

Looks like a padded dash car and it's in good shape. With Deluxe heater and summer vents, Deluxe interior trim and radio, PS and HydraMatic, it's not as much of a stripper as it first appears. Very much like the majority of 1960 Dynamic 88s.

😳

They must be selling some potent stuff in CO since they legalized it. Makes me want some of it, and I gave up that habit 45 years ago.

If it didn't sell at $14,500, there's no way a bottom line car's value has increased by $8000 in five months. $22,500 is getting into Ninety Eight hardtop money.

Owner must not want to sell this car very bad. I would like to see pics of the perfect headliner in this car. I was handed down my mom's Super 88 when I first started driving and the only thing that I did not like was the material that the headliner was made of. It was a kind of foam rubber that kind of looked like it was sprayed on. The headliner in my car was perfect in 1975, but I just can't picture that material lasting from 1960 to 2023. Tough sell for a car that has been sitting for 20 years at 22,500.

I think that Olds foam headliner material was called Starlite. You didn't see those headliners in every model, mostly maybe in the more expensive Super 88 & 98 4-door hardtops & Scenicoupes. I doubt a base model 88 2-dr. sedan would have had one of those more expensive headliners.

Starfoam. The bane of any 57-63 higher-line Oldsmobile restorer's efforts.

I think some Buicks and Pontiacs had that stuff too. Wagons had a perforated hardboard headliner that was about one step up from Starfoam. It didn't disintegrate like Starfoam, but it had a bad habit of bowing away from the roof and getting into rear seat passengers' headroom.

I stand corrected, my apologies. Upside is that it still has only two doors.

Clear as mud, the difference between what is a coupe and what is a sedan. This article from Car and Driver magazine states  that a coupe can be defined by the number of compartments that a car has ie. three being a coupe and four being a sedan regardless of the amount of doors. To me this means that you have an engine compartment, passenger compartment and a trunk. If you have two doors, then you have four compartments and it is a sedan.  It also states that if the interior space of the car is 33 cu. ft. or greater then it is a sedan. Well my Buick Super 56 SC, by this definition is a sedan as is the Roadmaster 76 SC even though SC designated by Buick means Sport Coupe. Confusing.

I do really like this year Olds as this was my first car that I learned to drive on. I had the Super 88 hard top and that car was loaded. This is the entry level car, so no AC, power windows and comes with the 371 instead of the 394. That said, the styling on this car is beautiful IMO and the two doors are rarer than the four doors. More than likely there will be some gremlins in a car that has been sitting for twenty years, but it looks like a winner to me. Uncertain of why the seller mentioned the redesign of the Olds 98, as this is a D 88, but as far as I know the style of the exterior was the same from the D 88, S 88 and the 98. GLWTS
