rjp
In about a month I will be putting new interior in my car. Leaning toward leatherlite, real leather is about 3 times higher? Any thoughts? Resale? up keep? Thanks
Oldtech
I'm debating same on my 17. I want the original look without the expense. 🤔
Dave39MD
I have been having this debate with myself for sometime. Finally decided I won't be happy unless I go back with the leather. The addition dollars will be worth the look and feel to me. Dave
Bloo
Leather all the way. Vinyl in no way resembles any of the artificial leathers available back then. Leather as it ages will start to look like old leather. Vinyl will start to look like your grandmother's worn out 1960s recliner.
trimacar
Don’t just look at the cost of the leather, look at the cost of the whole job. Labor is the same cost whichever material, unless you’re doing the job yourself. Vinyl doesn’t look, feel, or wear like leather, so is that going to bother you every time you look at it and “cost” you worry? When it comes time to sell, the now hidden “cost” is that you, or your heirs, have to listen to “oh, it’s not leather” comments from would be buyers. The incremental cost of real leather is minimal if one looks at the overall restoration and hidden costs….in my opinion…

Jennifer Mitchell
My 1924 has "cloth" like velvet interior. It's in ok shape. I'm debating making seat covers and putting them over the original interior. As for the door panels, I'm preserving the existing and making a door panel cover. Possibly having custom made wood floors to put over the carpet.

What would be any good purpose for doing that? Why not just put carpet over the old if you don't want to do the whole job.
hidden_hunter
Some of the local bodies used pig leather instead of cow, not sure if that’s just a local thing though
rjp
Well, I put the money down on the real stuff. I hope everyone is in line when I sell! HA, HA Thanks again Roger
Oldtech
I get it. Auto upholsterers are scarce around here. Fortunately cows are plentiful.

People care about original cars. Just like coin collectors care about original coins and don't care about a 1923 silver dime that some idiot polished with silver polish. You want to ruin the car? Restore it.
rjp
Not much choice on this one the interior is redone in a real poor vynil and looks bad.
