If I had lots of money and room? It would be special enough.

My grandfather raised peaches during the depression, throughout the wartime and didn't retire until the early 1960s. As a farmer, providing necessary food for our troops overseas, they occasionally got special consideration during the war. The old Buick had served well since the mid 1930s, but it was more than ten miles into town, and trips were required almost daily. Not only did my grandparents have to deal with the growing and harvesting of peaches (90 acres worth!), dealings with the canneries, they were involved with the local boards and had a military aircraft observation station on their property. Trips to town were important, and the old Buick wasn't up to the demands. So a necessary request was made to the rations board, and my grandparents were granted permission to buy a brand new car! It was a 1942 Oldsmobile, very much like this one.

The Oldsmobile was replaced with a new Cadillac the year I was born, 1952, so I never did get to see it. But if I had the money and the room? I would want it just for family history reasons.

We sometimes joke about it. We laugh a special laugh when a movie makes snide remarks about the military and its 'canned peaches'. My family supplied the peaches for millions of those cans of peaches.

History. It is important.

According to the seller, the one year grille design is akin to an unpolished rare coin. Looks like another "patina special" where the only real solution to improve the looks of the car is an expensive repaint. Some rechroming might be in order too. He states twice in the ad that the car is 79 years old in case there are any arithmetic challenged buyers looking at the car.

Six cylinder and ancient Hydramatic? Better skip drag race night.

"42-48 cars are right behind the late '50's when it comes to some really ugly design features.

Aside from the grill, it's a nice-looking car, and that front-seat cover looks old enough that there might be hope the upholstery underneath is intact.

Always like it when a seller finds a new euphemism for "old and worn".
