JonW
I'm considering putting Gold Line tires on my '66 LeSabre project simply because it's different. But I've never seen a set in person. Is anyone here running them on their car, and if so, can you post a photo?
Matt Harwood
Here's one example. It's not a big Buick, but I think they look good for period-correct cars. 3
zepher
I agree with Matt, gold lines look great on certain cars. Just like the only tires I would want on a TR-6 are red lines.
rocketraider
Weren't the gold line tires originally made for 1965 Z16 Chevelles and then offered for Corvette the next year? I think they'll look good on yer Burick especially teamed with Burick chrome road wheels. I do think the gold lines look better against darker colors, and blue lines against lighter ones. TAKerry
Gold line tires were also spec'd for the 1976 L.E. Trans Am (precursor to 'Bandit T/A'). They had production issues and were cancelled before the car hit the showroom. They look good on that vette as well as some '60's muscle cars. Bryan G
I seem to recall these being used from the factory on some GM cars in the 90s, mostly nicer Buicks and probably Cadillacs. I liked them, and I sure wasn't in the right demographic at the time. I thought they looked sharp on a dark burgundy car. For some reason I remember them being Uniroyals. rocketraider
Vogue Tyres have a combination whitewall and gold pinstripe. They were/are out of my price range. Back in the 60s my Uncle Malcolm had a 1966 Ninety Eight that had a set of Kelly-Springfield tires with combination whitewall and gold stripe. They were off the car by time my parents bought it in 1969. Also remember a combination whitewall and red pinstripe on a lot of mid-60s Fords, esp Thunderbirds. JonW
Picture this car with Buick Rally chrome wheels and the Gold Line tires. That's what I have in mind. Or would Red Lines look better? Edited October 12, 2021 by JonW (see edit history)
Porsche 68
RED would definitely make it stand out ! Cool car John
rocketraider
I honestly think a gold line would vanish against that color. Red, blue or even white would show up better.

Now that its mentioned, I do remember one of my grandmothers new caddy's having them during this time period.
Jerry with a Packard
In 1965 my dad ordered a '65 corvette with gold line tires. From Jack Wall Chevy in Pasadena. If you are interested: 365 HP, Glen Green, off road exhaust, large gas tank, tan leather interior, teak steering wheel. Sigh.... Mom divorced him not long after.
