beemergb
Hi fellow members ,I trying to find the correct distributor cap and hold down clips for my Remy Delco ,Solar Spark Ignition , model 661R serial number 3670 .I have received from various parts specialists ,but to no avail .As you can see in the pictures the original hold down clips dont come close to holding down this replacement cap . Any ideas out there where I can get the right one and the new clips , secondhand or new Im easy , just want to get the old girl on the road !! stvaughn
Have you tried rotating your brackets 180 degrees?
beemergb
I think Ive tried everything ! The problem is 1the caps itself is wrong , if it was taller where the clips click on to it might do the trick . Hope I find the answer , but thank you anyway , Harry
plymouthcranbrook
Did you order the parts using the distributor number? Critical to getting the right parts. Several varieties are out there. hwellens
Here is the part number for the Cap Cap looks correct as far as the height for the clip. I think STVAUGHN is correct on rotating the bracket that holds the clip 180 degrees. beemergb
I see by the picture you sent , that my new cap is correct and the clips that where on the distributor , the rusty ones in the picture where infact wrong ! And maybe after 80 plus years it was changed !! Anyone got a picture of the unit complete ? That would help , but thank you for the info , I bet the prices have increased a little since t was first printed
32plywood
looks to me that the bracket holding the clip on is upside down ---- if the clip will come off the bracket and pin turn it over so tab is up by cap and reinstall clip onto bracket.

hwellens
I have a 30 Chrysler with a Delco distributor and the hold downs are reversed from yours.
Spinneyhill
It is clear in your first picture the cap is sitting on top of the clip rather than on the distributor body. Take the clip off the mounting tab base (pull the pin), turn the base up the other way and refit the clip and pin.
Sasha39
Yes it looks like the clip holder is upside down
beemergb
Ok I seem to have cured the hold down cap clip problem .But I still need one clip ,I have tried to find one like it but to no avail .Anyone got one I can buy please , new secondhand rusty dirty new ?? FLYER15015
Enough of this nonsense. 1. Use your old clip as a guide. 2. Buy 3 new clips as per your picture. You will need a "spare". 3. Take your tin snips and cut the BOTTOM of the new clips to the correct length and shape. 4. I note that your new clips do not use a cross pin. They use a tab in a slot. Very easy to form in a vise with snips, a hammer and pliers. = Job done............ Mike in Colorado
beemergb
Hi Mike , thanks for the tip ! Have you tried to cut and bend spring steel ? Have done one and it looks like shit ! All I want is the correct clip , and by the way the new clips I bought are not wide enough .But thanks anyway H
Gunsmoke
I have 3 spare distributors with clips, bought them for my 1931 Chrysler CD8 project. I have a Solar Spark unit on car, other 3 are Delco Remy. All use these same clips, measure about 1.25". What car are you using them on? If you want one, $5, pair for $10, plus shipping, a guy has to make a living!! Would also part with one of the distributors if you need one, 2 are dual points, one is single points. I'm using a single points unit in my car. Send me a PM if interested.
