That is a beautiful rear!

Thank you very much lancemb ! :)

The rear is almost finished :) , the next step will be the reassembly of the lower trunk strips, and I need to find new clips, but I don't know where to find them

It looks like you could use a universal type small trim clip, but they usually have a stud that accepts a nut instead.  However, this style is probably available as well.  Have you tried Auveco?

Hello, no I didn't know this site and I just looked.
The most similar model is this one, but as you say you have to install it with a bolt.

https://www.auveco.com/general-motors/moulding-fasteners-10-24-x-3-4-bolt-5-16-width-12962

I looked online but couldn't find it.
I also need this clip, for the large lower body strips, but I couldn't find it.

Try this place.  They have a bunch of oddball clips (many not mentioned on website), and are super helpful.  Send them pictures with measurements and they will get back to you.

Hello, thank you very much for the internet links.
I just looked on this site and there are a lot of clips for modern cars.
I will send them a message with photos to see if they have it.
Was this clips only for Buick ? or did the whole GM group have the same clips ?
I haven't looked on Rockauto yet, I will look soon.
THANKS :)

Yes, some clips were shared with other GM divisions, but most of them are unique to a particular vehicle.

There are many "standard" clips that you might be able to use, so be sure to also look at the universal clip designs.

I would like them to tell me that they have the clips available :)
I will also look on rockauto to see the universal clips .

hello, I just saw that someone posted a video of the collection of abandoned cars that I saw on vacation in summer 2022 near the town of Kanab in Utah!
When I was there there wasn't a lot of grass and we could see the cars clearly.
But I didn't see that there were cars in the forest!
Here is the video, we can see at the beginning of the video a very beautiful Chevrolet Caprice (1966?) and a magnificent 1968 Buick Le Sabre! I really liked the Buick Le Sabre, and if it was in France I would have bought it :) !

And here are photos I took when I was there in 2022.

Very beautiful Buick

Hello, I sent messages to the sites for the clips of my Buick, but the first site does not answer me and the second site told me to send a message to an email address that they sent me but I never got a response.
So I think they don't have these clip models :(

So I'm looking for these clips :

You can lightly coat it with some black silicone before reapplying or and it will be fine.

Let the silicone partially set-up before installing the emblem; then leave it finger-tight until fully cured.  Then tighten the nuts completely.

Thanks a lot for your answers :) .
I made a new joint with a sheet of black foam (joint plate), I will see if it is good. And if my new seal is not good, I will reassemble the original seal :)

Hello everyone, here is some Buick news :) .

So still on the rear of the car but with a much smaller part than the bumper :D

So I continued with the license plate light, which is not in great condition.

The plastic has yellowed

The joint is no longer watertight

And I start with the window / plastic globe which has yellowed

SAM_9286.JPG.e7ba6e71d6285fd50e559e8c680570b9.JPG

For this I would first try to make it come back transparent before saying to change it (no remanufacturing, but you can find it in NOS).

For this I took inspiration from a video that I saw on the internet.

I like watching videos of restoration of everything (it can be a work tool, computer devices, home, car, etc.) because it gives ideas for restoring lots of objects.

And so for this plastic “globe” I would do exactly as I saw on a video.

So I will need a blue LED strip (black light)

SAM_9290.JPG.268d686463f526bfd6dc8c44eb73bd92.JPG

SAM_9292.JPG.09bc183d627103dea3b7eee33ec3356c.JPG

12% hydrogen peroxide

SAM_9294.JPG.2aa57f70892867430a090a3ef0e0d066.JPG

Aluminum foil

SAM_9296.JPG.3457f652fa75fb6c1c63fb335ef948a8.JPG

Then a jar or transparent plastic.

Then we surround the jar with the LED strip, with the LEDs on the inside side of the jar

SAM_9298.JPG.2a618cd8637f20d95f7614fc866990b2.JPG

SAM_9299.JPG.67d2e82a1c4578e2fd41e008d6eee078.JPG

Then we wrap the jar with aluminum foil to reflect the LED lighting

SAM_9302.JPG.6f82ac1c5151e554788f36783a9b3e25.JPG

SAM_9303.JPG.93f48897465574db7d28c4ff4f6f607b.JPG

Then here's how it looks inside

SAM_9305.JPG.f80cfb20099326bb33612971a810f4b7.JPG

Then I pour the hydrogen peroxide into the jar

SAM_9308.JPG.e17972169e9e7a805b05a148db998b1d.JPG

Then I turn on the LEDs and leave it on for a full day (from Saturday morning at 10 a.m. until the next day, Sunday at 10 a.m.)

plastic is better than before

Before and after

SAM_9369.JPG.0df9644471076156dea441d7d93b5a8d.JPG

Here is the video that inspired me for the night light globe.

This method starts from 5min30 on the video

This method works on transparent and opaque plastic, of all colors.

He explains in his videos that he leaves the plastic parts soaked for more or less 1 day, and if the plastic is really yellowed he leaves it soaked for a little more time.

This method also works without the LED strips, just with sunlight, but it takes much longer, at least 1 week to leave soaked.

SAM_9315.JPG.f4d215aac9f2b5485e3894d71115256e.JPG

The support had been repainted in a gray color, but we can see behind that there are still places with the original color, it was anodized in “gold/copper” color.

Then painting.

I looked for a painting that was closer to the original, but it looks a little more like a Christmas ball than the original.

But it's still better than what it was

Then the support gasket.

I couldn't find a remanufacture of the seal, so I have to make it.

Originally it was a 3mm foam seal, and so I bought a roll of 3mm foam (I couldn't find a small quantity)

SAM_9385.JPG.703f94339939e235600ce17a6fdeb9d7.JPG

SAM_9386.JPG.c07722dfcd8f7fc4993e4eaeca5f9488.JPG

the black foam roller in 3 mm

SAM_9391.JPG.fa52d632541946828dd9f9a59d553a2b.JPG

Then I redo a joint using the old one

SAM_9393.JPG.1b8932800c6bb50d35a5bf40a7048ff3.JPG

SAM_9397.JPG.bc78e1e6f1d77beef4270c63af3b2833.JPG

Then the second white joint, of the globe.

This joint has shrunk over time and it will have to be redone with the correct dimensions

SAM_9384.JPG.bfa700490981e39241c0e4b1bd8b0a45.JPG

So I bought white joint/foam plates to redo this joint

SAM_9426.JPG.47ae48e94988008e9abe5ca73ddb956b.JPG

Then clean the screws, the license plate lighting pilot light is ready to be reassembled

Then reassembly :)

The plate lighting night light is finished :)
The next step is the Buick logo / locked trunk cover, and I will post the photos at the end of the week :)

Thank you very much JohnD1956 :) , I will see over time if it lasts long, but the person on the videos does this method for all restorations of yellowed plastic :) .

I'm leaving this morning for a week to work in the mountains, near the Pyrenees in the south of France.
I won't be able to connect to the forum because there is no internet, so I will only post the photos of the rest at the end of the week or during the weekend :)

Sebastian, that coupe has your name all over it. Would be an exciting restoration or refurbish under your care. And a perfect stable mate for your current Buick. Besides, once completed, what will do? It’s only money and you can only spend it once!

Yes, I like this black Buick on the ad :)
There's still a little work to be done on my Buick, and when it's finished I'm going to drive it, drive it a lot :). I will continue to maintain it, and I am happy to ride with it :).
As "Rocky" said in one of his films "he wanted to drive his 58 Chevy until the tires burst" :D.
When my Buick is finished, I'm going to work on my 1978 Dodge Monaco police (there's some body work, we need to redo the bottom of the rear and front fenders, etc. :) ).

I will also continue to maintain my parents' 1941 Buick :)

And I don't know if I presented it to you, but in 2018 I bought (saved), a 1969 Buick Electra 225 Limited 4-door hardtop, and I want to repair it :)
It is complete, the registration document and the engine are missing.

Hello, I will soon post photos of the rest of the work.
I'm still looking for the metal clips to attach the strips to the bottom of the trunk.
And I'm going to buy new clips that look like the original ones.
Here are photos of the original clips with measurements

And here are the new clips that I would like to buy.
The measurements seem to correspond between the original clips and the new ones ?

It’s on a website that you recommended to me .

Thank you :)

Good evening everyone, here is some Buick news :) .

Small progress in the work, I am working at the same time on my Dodge 78 and the Buick 41.

And I'm waiting for parts for my Buick which must come back from chrome plating.

When I took the Buick to the bodybuilder, I had to reassemble the trunk lock for the bodybuilder, but I knew I would have to take it apart to give it a clean.

So remove the trunk locks and clean. It was clean but a little faded.

So I applied a gray primer which resembles the original color, then applied a colorless varnish to finish

I looked but couldn't find a new gasket for the lock cover, so I made one.

First cut, the joint is not yet finished, it will be refined later

It's incredible the difference in color between the camera and the phone.

Then it will be the strips which run along the bottom of the trunk, but I will post the photos soon :) .

Hello, here are December and January photos of my 1978 Dodge Monaco Police :)
I drive it a lot and I go shopping to the store with the Dodge when the weather is nice :)
And in the parking lot I saw a very rare Cadillac Escalade EXT, and I parked next to it :)
By the time I parked and got out of the car there were already a lot of people around the Dodge taking photos, talking,... I had to wait a while to enter the store :D

I went to several stores for Christmas, and I bought a small gift, and it was sitting nicely at the back :D

Then towards the end of December I started work on the Dodge, I replaced the steering box because there was a fixing of the box which broke.

Last Saturday evening we went to eat at a restaurant that we like to go to, it's an American restaurant, a Tommy's Diner :)
And we would really like to visit the beautiful city of New York, there was a New York specialty, the “Nathan's” hot dogs :)
And I tasted a hot dof from New York in France :) , and it was very very good !

Congratulations to the winner, I ate two hot dogs and I couldn't finish eating the fries
If one day I have the chance to go to New York, I will try Nathan's hot dogs, and I will see if they are the same as the Diner near me :)

What's with mayonnaise and French fries in Europe? You would never see that here in a US diner. I've seen the Spanish do it, and then the Germans.  But the French??? Mon Dieu, what has happened to France? 😢

Ha - I was just going to ask about that!

Sebastien needs to tell Tommy to serve the fries with ketchup!

And plain hot dogs (except chili dogs or similar) get mustard.  ;)
