Bugatti Royale Photographs

Hi everyone

I am new to this forum and just want to introduce myself. I am based in the United Kingdom and my specialised subject is the Bugatti Royale, for which I have had a very keen interest in for the last thirty plus years. I and am now in the process of trying to write a book devoted to the subject. Whilst I have a great deal of knowledge on the subject, I have reached a point where it is nigh on impossible to find any more historic photos of these cars. Could anybody point me in the right direction to finding any, especially ones from the time of D Cameron Peck's, Jack Nethercutt and Bill Harrah's ownership.

Hopefully thanking anyone in advance....

Greg Morgan

There are indeed many images on Google, but they are all contemporary. The only ones that I am searching for are period shots. I have many, but I have nothing from the period when the Berline de Voyage was owned by Cameron Peck or Jack Nethercutt. In writing a book on the subject it would be very dull if all or most of the pictures had been previously printed.

I believe The Benson Ford Research Center at The Henry Ford (Henry Ford Museum) has early photos of the Weinberger Cabriolet in their collection including some prior to its discovery and restoration by Charlie Chayne (spelling?). I would also assume that the library at the National Automobile Museum in Reno (formerly the Harrah Collection) would have photos of the two Royales that Bill Harrah (Coupe Napoleon and Berline de Voyage) once owned prior to their restorations as well. When I was a kid, I worked at Briggs Cunningham's Museum one summer and was given a ride in his Royale Kellner Coupe. When I worked at Harrahs I got to drive the Coupe Napoleon and the Berline de Voyage and when I worked at the Henry Ford Museum I got to sit in the Cabriolet (it was not in running condition). So, I have been fortunate enough to sit in the four Royales that once lived in the US.

I think this is Jean Bugatti

Yes indeed that is Jean Bugatti posing alongside the 'Esders Roadster'- the design of which he was responsible for, at a mere twenty three years of age, although Joseph Walter probably played a much greater part in it than he was given credit for. This picture is one of a series of twelve stunning quality glass neg pictures taken by Bugatti's favoured photographer 'Carabin' from Strasburg. Although these pics have been published many times, they are rarely seen in their original 'HD' quality. Interestingly, for such a famous car only these and two other photos have ever come to light.
