  1. Peter, might as well leave things as they are. In my experience, the staunch Packard folk are not happy about the merger - despite the fact that it only lasted a short time. As for the PackardBakers, for the most part Stude Folk have embraced them - whether the model is a wagon, a sedan, or even the Packard Hawk. In fact, we'll enjoy any Pierce Arrow, any Garford, or Metz, or Flanders, etc. Even mid-50's Benz's are allowed at a meet - as Studebaker was the importer during that time. So, don't worry yourself, Peter.
  2. Great. Would you or any friends know where I could get a parts manual or operators handbook for a 1926 REO Speedwagon Fire Truck with a six?
  3. Gents - nothing ever dies in cyberspace. This yard and it's treasure trove are long gone. Only the website remains, tantalizing car buffs worldwide.
  4. One of my Stude chapter members is the Captain of the local Fire Museum. They just acquired a 1926 Speedwagon Fire Truck with an inline 6 for power. They really need a parts manual or operators handbook, so they can use it in parades and demonstrations. A little help, please?
  5. Man, that's a stretch. (bye the way, I think the new Camaro is butt ugly and I grew up in the 70's.
  6. Dictator 8, maybe? But why does the head look like aluminum?
  7. If you are still shopping for a Studebaker truck (or car), try here: www.studebakerdriversclub.com . There is a classified link, or simply log onto the forum and start a conversation. StudeFolk will be happy to help you in your search!
  8. Studebaker made quite a few 16 passenger busses for the "jitney" trade before WWII.
  9. Great pix, tbirdman. And the Clenet was as real as yours, it just lacked the richer history. The general public never fails to amuse, or annoy those of us with cars at any public showing. Agreed? I have been informed at various times that my '49 Studebaker Champion has a Chevy, a Ford, and a Continental engine. My cousins T-bucket rod has been called a "dune buggy" by a sweet old lady. My nephews restored 1970 Charger R/T has been described as incorrect many times, despite his factory build sheet taped to the window. We bring joy to those who wish to have it with our cars, the rest we simply endure.
  10. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">It just seems like somebody way up there has a bug in their butt about hydrogen.</div></div> No kidding! Mention hydrogen in most circles and guess what comes up? Hydrogen bombs. There have been several hydrogen (and helium) powered cars on the salt, and even though there are no rules concerning this - all the knee-jerk alarmists wanted those cars fueled away from the usual pit areas and only allowed them to run once the starting area was cleared. It ain't the old days anymore, but some folks don't get it.
  11. Don't forget about the Studebaker Drivers Club and their excellent forum. StudeFolk will shower you with info, and good will. http://forum.studebakerdriversclub.com/
  12. I guess we StudeFolk like the Packard Hawk better than Packard people, as we are used to cars with bird names. I much prefer the sleek hood and nose of the Packard Hawk over the Mercedes-Benz type grilles on most Hawks. Clean the fake spare tire off the trunk, clean off most of the trim that ruins the clean lines - you have a nice looking car that turns heads everywhere!
  13. No, it's still HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But the truck at the pumps is a Ford.
  14. Our Studebaker chapter attends monthly meetings at a different location chosen by the Tourmaster. I'll give you the run-down for this year. Jan. - We attended a local indoor car show as a club. Feb. - We met at a local fast food restaurant popular with car clubs. Mar. - We toured a local car collector's building to view his 100 or so Euro classics (Bentley to Isotta Fraschini). Apr. - We toured the local City-County Historical Museum. May - We caravaned to a historic restaurant for lunch. June - We attended a local outdoor show as a club. July - We will caravan to a historic millhouse for lunch. Aug. - We will caravan to an underground city. Sep. - Our Intl. Meet falls that weekend, so those who stay home will meet informally at a local fast-food joint. Oct. - We will caravan to lunch with the local Hudson and Packard clubs, and then tour a small-town museum. Nov. - We meet locally for Studebaker Stew & elections. Dec. - We meet in a members home for Christmas Dinner. Every three years we host a multi-state 3 day Studebaker meet drawing around 65 Studebakers, and 125 members for a car show, a caravan, a chili feed, and tours of McPherson (KS) College of Antique Automotive Restoration School. The final event is an Awards Banquet with entertainment. It's a lot of work, but also lots of fun.
  15. Have you forgotten that Ford is working on a hydrogen fuel celled car? Last year it even tested a fuel cell powered Fusion on the Great White Dyno and achieved over 200MPH with ease.
  16. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">So other than it being good for corn farmers and record growth in fuel & gorceries costs, what's it good for? </div></div> The eco-freaks like it because it doesn't pollute the air. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Why is the scientific community so quiet about this?</div></div> Because they are getting paid to make it look good! Actually, real worlders have known that alcohol has less energy than gasoline for years. Much of the public is finding out the hard way. The scam will be exposed soon, and corn prices will go back down.

  18. Have you asked on the Stude board?
  19. Pioneer Village in Minden, Nebraska has an extensive collection of vintage and classic cars from brass era to 60's cars. The whole complex is a museum of old American stuff & culture. Easy to get to via I-80, nice motel attached, too.
  20. Packard8 is right - it could have been worse, they might have put a Chevey under the hood. I like modded cars, too - but I wouldn't have done it that way.
  21. Contact Larry Smith at Creative Interiors in Wichita. His prewar collection of European cars might need your skills.
