Probably had one of those, but gave it to the Sloan Museum if I did a few years ago.

Some time when we are together, I can show & explain how to get rid of the speed up or slow down when engaging the cruise control. It is an adjustment.

I think that it is just pressed on to the shaft.

Here is the side of the transducer that the speedometer cables connect to. The one on the left is a good part and the pointer is showing the bushing that goes bad in the center of the shaft. The part on the right is one that has a bad bushing. You can see the rubbing on the magnet because of the bad bushing. If the car starts to have the speedometer jumping, disconnect the cables and get a new unit or it will evetually bind up and break the speedometer cable. I am not encouraging anyone to fix these as this is a part that could cause the car to accelerate if not properly repaired. It is best to have this part repaired by a qualified repair facility.

The worn out bushing/ bearing could probably be fixes. I have a couple of extras in the garage and just have not had the time to try to fix them. It should be a farily simple fix. Might try to put in a needle bearing instead of a bushing if I can find the correct size. I will try to put up some pictures of the problem.

Oh, There is that Buick hub cap that I was looking for......

I would probably disagree with "half baked" statemetn about the AC Cruise system. Used to work in the department making them through college and I have had minimal problems with them. If you engage the cruise and the car starts speeding up, the cause is a small bronze bushing in the transducer that wore out.

And it was COLD. The great lakes froze over I think 97%. An unreal number. Saw an ice fishing video the other day and the fisherman said that they were 20 miles out on Lake Superior last winter ice fishing.

The reason that the manufacturers changed to 12 volts is to save money. By using a higher voltage they could use smaller wires. It is as simple as that. MONEY. In todays environment an additional bonus would be mass reduction with smaller wires, motors, etc along with the cost savings.

Raydurr, As for advice being more difficult in the future, this group of forum participants have in my experience never been short of advice or knowledge. Being on this fourm, you have encounted the mother load of knowledge.

To the best of my knowledge, Chevrolet did not make an S-10 in 1969. I believe the first year was 1982 for the truck and I think 1985 for the Blazer. Do you mean C-10?

I would be from that camp that if your are comfortable with taking it apart and cleaning it, etc. then do it. You already have IMO the hard part done taking the starter out.

Generally speaking, all windshields are laminated safety glass. The rest of the glass in the vehicle would be tempered safety glass. Here is some additional information on glass. http://www.secondchancegarage.com/public/windshield-history.cfm

As much as 15% by volume of ATF is additives including detergents, anti-foaming agents and the like.

Which Heritage Museum?

What was the cause of the fire? Looks like it started on the floor of the garage. I would guess that the reason for you limited fire is because you have an almost air tight garage?

Just be sure to turn everything off including the lights when cranking the engine. As Rusty says, it will work.

West, Is that a 6 volt pump?
