  1. In the words of Adam, "TA-DA!!" That pretty well sums it up.
  2. Can't reply with knowledge on the interchange but my 28-41 Parts book shows part # 1309468 fitting 1939 Series 40&60. Just supplying another # for your search.
  3. Somebody's got some "splainin" to do on this one with all these combos.
  4. Very sad news. I echo everyone's comments. His knowledge was invaluable and he generously shared it. We met at a BCA meet years ago through our 39s. He had a Roadmaster. I had a Special. He needed a big series jack which I had. I needed a small series jack which he had. We swapped. The world ran a little smoother and a friendship was established. Until we meet again, Dave.
  5. Looking good, Anderson. In BCA judging you will NOT take a hit on having the paint on the car not match that of the Body Plate. As long as the paint on the car is one that was available for 1941 Buicks, no non-authenticity deduction will be made. You're in good shape there!
  6. Airbrush: No coat hooks used on US Series 40 cars. Assist strap is correct as shown in Grant's pictures. Just checked the ones on my very original Model 41. No coat hook attached to the assist strap either. I've occasionally seen the straps up for auction on Ebay.
  7. Mutt: Grandpa's picture is from a 38 Roadmaster. The "guage" you see is an ashtray. 38 Buick ashtrays were not finished the same as the rest of the instrunment panel. In your original posting of your instrument panel, the "restored" picture you attached is that of a Series 40 and it has been painted- not restored to the original wood grain. Go to www.1937and1938Buicks.com and click on Torque Tube on the left hand side. These issues of the original 1937-1938 Buick Club publication are packed with info on proper instrument panel refinishing for your car.
  8. I agree with Allan. Serial number doesn't make sense; but it looks like a 1941 to 1947 block has been installed but using the 38 manifolds and carb. Not unusual for this to happen. The 1946 Buick Service Bulletins show how to do this as part of their postwar Replacement Engine Program. I'm doing this now with my 37 40C as the original engine block disappeared years ago per the previous owner. The car came with a 1947 engine assembly. Fortunately the 37 manifolds and flywheel housing were saved. I'll need to change the front support as there were changes in the front engine mounts starting in 1939 vs the previous years.
  9. Brian: Using a tape measure my Lesabre hood measures 59 inches taken from the rear center of the hood to the tip of the chrome molding on the front. Width at the rear from side to side is 61 inches. Wildcat hood and sheet metal should be longer as you are correct in noting the 3 inch difference in the wheel base. Bodies are the same from the cowl back. Hope this helps.
  10. Confirming what Adam said about the chrome and padding on the glove box door.
  11. Adam and Others: Notice this car has some of the early features on the instument panel vs later ones. The "crash pad" has a pointed front vs. the more rounded one used later. The cover housing the radio speaker appears to be a painted one vs the padded one used later. The power window switches have the chrome trim around the button vs the fully painted ones used later. I was never able to document the change points as I found no info in the Product Service Bulletins or the Buick Parts Product Information Bulletins I used when I had 5 Limiteds back in the 70's and 80's. In the engine bay, the air cleaner does not have the raised cone shaped section in the center of the top used on later ones. This change was made due to a problem with rainwater pooling in the top center around the threaded shaft, then running down the shaft into the carburetor. A plug was issued to fix the early ones. Good luck on this Adam. Please keep us posted on the Limited.
  12. Job 30009 is a 1930 model 47 4 dr sedan w/ a 118" wheelbase. Job 30109 is a 1930 model 61 4 dr sedan w/ a 132" wheelbase per my 28-41 Parts Book.
  13. Bham: Sorry about that. Saw my mistake after posting. Sid: These cars are like the pace cars used in auto racing. Those sides of the"shopping cart" unfold to a straight line at the rear of the car and are power operated. The jockeys sitting on their carts(sulkeys) line up their trotters or pacers hitched to the carts behind the unfolded sides. The car starts down the track and keeps everyone lined up evenly. On crossing the starting line the car powers away while the sides fold in; then moves off the track as the race has begun. Stuart: Hope that description sounds similar to the way it's done down there.
  14. What Stuart and bamabulldog said. I've seen this set up at Raceway Park in Toledo.
  15. I met Bob at Danvers last year as i was listening in on him talking to others about the cars under the tent. He saw my name badge and said " Sit down, Dave, and let tell you about this car" or words to that effect. Of course I'd been following the thread on the Forum regarding the Landau, but it was good to hear it personally. It was a real pleasure to meet him and hope we can meet again next year in South Bend. Make sure he gets there and you too. Lamar!
  16. I don't know where you are located, but a phone call to Jim Hughes of Jim's Dynaflow Service in Perrysburg, Ohio may be of some help. He rebuilds all Dynaflows and is very knowledgeable on the problems and the updates that were done. I learned from him yesterday that many of the supposed total rebuild kits do not always include every seal or O ring necessary to do the job. His # is 419-874-2393.
  17. Hope it was a great day for you, Roberta.
  18. The 1942 Service Bulletins cover the removal and rerouting of the oil lines. There was a problem getting suitable oil filter material due to wartime needs that would not fall apart in service. Substitutes were apparently not working well so Buick advised the dealers to remove the filter canisters.
  19. If you don't mind looking out of the Chicagoland area call Jim Hughes of Jim's Dynaflow Service here in Perrysburg (Toledo), Ohio near Ohio Turnpike and I-75. 419-874-2393. Just might have a rebuilt one in stock. He rebuilds any Dynaflow. I always enjoy talking Dynaflow with him.
  20. Earl: Looking forward to seeing the progress on the Lassen Green 46C. Always look forward to your posts.
  21. That's it, Roberta. Creampuff car with all the Siver Arrow accessories. My former boss" car. I drove it when it was new. Just not in the cards for me to purchase at this time.
