  1. I remember that horn sounding less "tinny", but then again, I was young....
  2. Moved to Manitoba in 1998...you wanna know my SK driver's license number, phone number in Saskatoon, U of S student number? Got them all...sigh.
  3. Jason - you just need to dress for it. Ice fishing is another pastime that is sometimes combined with snowmobiling...with the portable shelters and propane heaters available nowadays, you can remain quite comfortable. Crosley Dave - yup...prairie folk are a hardy bunch. My wife is from coastal regions but has been on the prairies now for about 20 years...still doesn't have the same hardiness as a born and bred prairie gal. I can't complain...we're getting a south wind, so the next several days are supposed to get close to freezing. That will be nice. Actually, this time of year is fantastic...days are getting longer and warmer and there is so much to look forward to.
  4. Hmm...so 6:45 here...maybe...I should be out of the shower and downstairs by then...I'll try to catch it. It seems to me they do some time shifting of the show for the various time zones though....
  5. Or perhaps northern belles that have spent too much time playing outside....
  6. Lamar - the horn ring looks about right for '52, but on my car, it has "Buick Roadmaster" in the center piece. I don't know if that goes across all the lines though or not. I'll have to look for a photo to compare. I may need to buy that '62 fact book to see what it says about my baby Buick.
  7. What on earth could it be doing going to Cincinnati? Do we know anyone there who likes Wildcats? I'm drawing a blank...
  8. It frightens me to think you could be dating my daughter as the two of you are within a year of each other...she now has some access to a Reatta...she was on a judging team for the Reattas in Colorado Springs in 2009...I'm not making any suggestions now...since I have to be her father first ;)
  9. Eddie445 - the answer to your last question is "it depends". If you are looking for money, it is extremely rare to be able to perform a restoration, then "flip" the car and make money. However, if you want a car to enjoy, what better car than this? With A/C working properly, it should be comfortable, four doors is practical if you want passengers and, as you have noted, it is a car that is quite rare, so it will attract attention. So, from the look and sounds of things, if you are looking to restore a car, this appears to be a pretty good candidate. Now, the 445 designation is for a 401 ci "Nailhead" - the 445 refers to the torque rating of the engine. As for present value, there are a few places you can look. Try nadaguides.com or collectorcarmarket.com - when I try to ascertain the value of a car, I tend to look to at least 2 or 3 guides (there is also Old Cars Report Price Guide as a magazine) since some of them tend to be either high or low compared to the others. Another thing is that the guides are just guides. They are not absolutes. The value of a given car in a given location at a given time is that which a seller and buyer agree to. Good luck. The styling of the '61 full size Buicks has a lot of fans. If you do decide to sell, the Buick Buy / Sell forum would be a place to start - not huge exposure, but Buick enthusiasts frequent the place and the price for the ad is as good as you can get.
  10. I'm not disagreeing per se...and I know the limitations of price guides...I had just checked a couple price guides that had the top price of a 56C under $50k. I see NADA shows higher. Actually, I bought the car in 2008 at pretty close to the April 2008 Average price, so as an average car, it hasn't increased in value that much since then. Granted, I would like to think of the car as perhaps better than average...it did earn a silver. I don't think it would get to that high retail number, but who am I to say? There have been a couple for sale for a while around $30k. There isn't much point in showing Suzanne...this car is a keeper, so its value is less important as a dollar figure than something to enjoy. If I were to sell it, well, there's a dog house outside I'm sure I'd be able to use, not to mention the children disowning me...as it is, they are occasionally bickering about who will eventually get which car.
  11. I'd like to have it to someday replace the '47 engine in my '41 so that I had an appropriate serial number, but it isn't a great need, particularly with shipping costs involved. The best bet may be Doug Seybold in Westlake - they specialize in '40 and '41 Buicks, performing restorations and selling cars / parts.
  12. Guess we won't be hearing from an emaciated Rick until spring weather appears in Iowa.... Just got back from a birthday party...as Joseph is 11 this week, I am hopefully nearing the end of these.... I'm pretty sure I can drink to Willie now though....
  13. I saw the same thing as a cartoon recently...of course, had you taken the photo such that you didn't get the edge of the path showing perhaps 6" of snow, it may have had more impact
  14. thirtysomething (TV Series 1987–1991) - IMDb
  15. I haven't checked price guides recently, but I'm wondering if the first couple of prices are in line with reality. I guess hardtops are up there, but the description for the Super convertible really inflates the restored value by about double. I can see that MrEarl is torn...between getting more '54 Buick friends and expanding Buick Gardens.
  16. Rob - that's a cool collection. I'm guessing a hail storm went through the Joe Browning lot.
  17. What's five pounds among friends?
  18. A comb Willie? When all else fails, credit cards work better as a scraper than I could see a comb doing. Just an idea to keep in your back pocket for next time. Doesn't matter whether or not we close the door...global warming...
  19. Was the '53 Special still side to side as it has the straight 8? I would presume so, but not certain.
  20. Happy Belated Annual Getting Old Day Dan!
  21. Nice...is it safe to assume we'll be hearing / seeing the '57s soon?
  22. Y'all can call me Frostbeard...aaarrrrrr.
