  1. I don't know that they have any...just that they are generally a good source for parts.
  2. I guess it comes down to a question of defining terms. If you mean the basic styling concept, it goes back to the 40s. If you mean curved side panel trim, then Lamar has shown us photographic evidence on a '49. If you define it to be the heavily check-marked, then we start in '53 with the Skylark. It isn't an argument per se. As for my earlier comment on the side trim, I was just going by the photos in the Standard Catalog of Buick. I sit corrected.
  3. Have you checked The Buick Farm?
  4. Mark - VentiPorts did start in 1949. The sweep spear trim I believe began on the 1950 Roadmaster. However, the body sculpting starting in 1947 (on other than the Special) invoke the idea of a sweep spear, at least to me.
  5. The problem ultimately is that people can hear the difference. So, either too much was stripped out, thinking it didn't matter, a trade-off was made for size or other reasons, or assumptions were made about human hearing that don't pan out...while it is believed we can't hear certain frequencies, perhaps those frequencies (particularly the lows) set up harmonics that we can hear...or perhaps our hearing is more complex than believed - like the sense of smell affects taste, perhaps something like "feeling" sound waves has an impact on how we hear. No facts there...just more Spam. Hmm...I guess I missed Spamalot playing here...sigh.
  6. Hmmm...almost looks like it would have everything my car needs and more....
  7. Think Opel Insignia Sport Tourer....
  8. Ow...biting tongue hurts! There were a lot of farmers of Ukrainian descent where I grew up...that phrase in my head always comes out with a Ukrainian accent...think Nestor Pistor....
  9. Oh yeah...in my mind, the sweepspear started in 1947 as body sculpting.
  10. Nah...right now it is neat rye...and hardly an overload. I really love the 1911 script...Les, am I getting one for my birthday? Jake - sorry for the misinterpretation. Rick - do you think Suzanne will mind if I use that to replace the wedding band? I'm not really a ring guy...the two I wear have significant meaning and I'm thinking of getting rid of the one. I'm not sure I completely understand what it will look like, but it sounds neat...am I right in thinking like a big gaudy class ring with the BCA logo in prime territory with the tri-shield and X on the shoulders?
  11. Thanks for sharing the videos...really neat.
  12. I was given to understand that the MP3 format was specifically designed for headphones / ear buds, so the necessary characteristics of the required sound is different than for that of a stereo system with two or more speakers that aren't in / on your ear. Of course, I may be misinformed.
  13. Wheatbelt is a good one - they are a Buick-only wrecking yard. Try The Buick Farm for NOS parts. I've found Classic Buicks to also be decent for new replacement parts. RockAuto also has a variety of new items. That's not an exhaustive list, but it's a start. Another thing to do is to use the buy / sell forum here as it captures a lot of folks who may have spare parts or parts cars.
  14. Bit of a contrast there with the red and black interior in the Gulf Turquoise car. Alas I'm not in a buying phase / mood right now unless an extreme deal lands in my lap (and no, I don't think I've mentioned the '73 Centurion for sale locally to Suzanne).
  15. I have more or less stopped listening, but I still have gear and vinyl...not much in terms of quality equipment, but it generally does the trick. I did replace my turntable in the last decade or so after the old one gave out. If I could make space physically to set things up, I would consider getting one of the new USB turntables to convert some of that old music so I can burn to CDs for the truck or actually start using an MP3 player on the walk to work.
  16. Chevrolet was started after Buick, was it not? Louis Chevrolet was with Buick before he and Durant started Chevrolet so that Durant could get back in control of General Motors. I understand Ford was started in 1903 as well...although they may have been producing and selling cars before Buick.
  17. My wife owns a purse or two, but has generally preferred fanny packs...so what was I supposed to think? Rick, I think you are asking too many questions, which makes this a difficult one to answer. The straight 8 served Buick across 20 plus years, so I think it probably the longest serving of those poll answers. Now, I know V8s have been in use longer, but without saying Nailhead, V8 isn't really particular to Buick...and Nailheads were only 53-66. Thinking a bit further, VentiPorts have been in used longer, on and off, but as Bob said, we're now seeing them on other brands. The next thing is the question of whether you are asking us, as Buick enthusiasts, or what we think the general population might think. John Q. Public probably wouldn't recognize Wildcat, and possibly the hawk emblem, and maybe even others, as indicative of Buick. Of course, I think some of it also has something to do with the era you are from and / or the era you collect. Hawk is sort of the 70s, Wildcat 60s, Sweep spear and VentiPorts, more the 70s, Bomb sight post-war, straight 8 30s & 40s, early Buick script pre-war.... The script and the valve-in-head service signs say Buick directly, so are very recognizable. Anyway, just some thoughts.... I've had my coffee, so I'm thinking too much now.
  18. For BCA judging, there is no deduction for "over-restoration". So, using modern base / clear coat paint systems is not a deduction, but it still has to be a correct colour for that year of Buick. I would think that using better materials such as SS would be considered an over-restoration issue, so shouldn't be a deduction. That said, I am not a senior judge nor would I be a final arbiter of whether or not it is (that is, this is my opinion on how I would handle it). The worst case, is that you would get a deduction for authenticity of material. Ignore that...point 7 on page 63 or 64 of the BCA Judging Manual states that there is to be no deduction made for stainless steel brake lines.
  19. I think their trailers are stupid small...something like 3200 or 3500 lb limit. Plus, the weight of trailer and load can only be 25% heavier than that of the tow vehicle...apparently that is in place for braking...must have come about from using vehicles that either weren't intended for towing in the first place or weren't very good tow vehicles.
  20. August 2010 Old Cars Report Price Guide lists a #4 condition car as 3400 and a #3 condition (typical 20-footer) at $7650. So I would suggest that you paid a reasonable amount. Another thing is that if you look at the cost of repairs, there is value in not needing to do stuff...things like rust repair are expensive. As a low mileage car, particularly if it was reasonably well cared for, the driveline should be in good shape overall. Good luck getting it home and enjoying it. I hate U-Haul...they're the reason I wound up buying a GMC 2500 and ultimately a 22' enclosed car hauler.
  21. Not particularly pleased to see a 2005 BCA Roster on there....
  22. I've seen some thicker than that, but it gets pretty stiff and won't necessarily wind nicely.
  23. The difference between AACA and BCA though is that BCA sweats the Buick details. Generally, the engine is turquoise. Now, think about how engines would have been painted on an assembly line. Any bolt that would have been required to be on (i.e. through the water jacket) would have been painted engine colour. Other items would either be left natural (such as bolt heads) or would have been a semi-gloss to matte black. The photo Marck shows has the oil filter painted engine colour. I believe that is incorrect. The filter body should be a light blue with an orange top. I don't think I have a good photo to show that, but I know some have been posted here over time.
  24. The GN is based on a Regal, so it would make sense that they would be the same, although I have no confirmation / verification of that.
