  1. Someone looks happy to be using a ratchet. Good work on keeping the younger generation interested.
  2. Or you haven't always had a passenger to balance things out
  3. When I got the exhaust done on the Wildcat (at least twelve years ago), the shop I took it to said they had the specs to replicate the original system. I told them that was what I was looking for. I don't recall which muffler we went with. When they showed it to me, I asked them where the resonators were...they did some rework...I guess the guy at the counter had a different definition of original than I do. I love that it's a nice quiet car, but is powerful enough to be fun and perhaps surprising for such a heavy car (compared to the newer stuff equipped with fart cannons as one poster here once called them).
  4. Oh yeah, particularly in light of data costs in the USA for us foreigners, I tend to have a copy of the roster when traveling for similar reasons as mentioned earlier. I do occasionally access it here either to look someone up or research models and such. I feel fortunate I don't have much reason to access bylaws like JD.
  5. I concur that new members ought to receive a copy of the "current" roster. I dont think I've gotten rid of any rosters...probably part of my clutter problem...the idea of dumpster diving is certainly a potential issue but there may be limited use of that data considering there may be relatively few local members. As as for databases that can be accessed online, the advent of MySQL has made it affordable. Of course, you still need someone competent to set it up and maintain it. Security needs to be top of mind. That said, if it's just name / address / phone / email / Buicks and membership number, how valuable is that data compared to a bank or retail chain with credit card data? It certainly could be inconvenient if hacked, but would be a lower value target than many. As as for a comparison to online banking, up here most of the banks have a national presence and report profits over $1B quarterly...they've got a bit more access to IT and security resources than a not for profit club does.
  6. Great story on a wonderful car. I wish you luck in locating it.
  7. That's getting close to what I paid for my full size 1954 Century Estate Wagon. I think I have more fun with mine. That said, they look very nice.
  8. Winter Buicks, Manitoba style...we don't get as much snow as a lot of places, but we do get wind, therefore drifting. I was out to the country place today and took a few photos, one of the '54 Century parts car, and a general display of winter Buicks...and a Kubota.
  9. I'd forgotten about it until just now...about twenty years ago, a local club member where I lived at the time was working on a re-body project. If I recall, it was a 1956 Mercury and it fit almost perfectly on a 70s or 80s Lincoln chassis. That way he got more modern chassis and A/C with the vintage look. Of course, he was doing this essentially himself.
  10. Suzanne and the boys had a good time at Volo on our way back from Allentown while Teresa and I delayed in the Chicago area. From what I heard and the photos I'd have to agree that it would be worthy of a side trip if nothing else.
  11. Groundhog Day has never meant much on the Canadian prairies....
  12. Thanks for copying that Larry. With trips to New Orleans in March, Italy in April, and Wisconsin in July, this year doesn't make sense for me. Registration for this year's courses opened last April so I will be setting myself a reminder for that timeframe.
  13. I will have to remember to keep any eye out for when they post dates for next year...perhaps we could cut costs by sharing a room. That could be a blast as well as learning something.
  14. I will have to confirm with She Who Must Be Obeyed regarding our plans exactly. We will most likely have at least two Buicks at the meet but don't know age yet. I may need to be in the Twin Cities for Tuesday morning so may partake of part of the tour. Suzanne and the young ones in attendance may be able to take it all in. That looks like some pretty interesting stuff. I've heard of some of them but haven't seen them.
  15. That's what we call a dusting. Interesting that now I know what shut down head office in John's Creek, GA (I forget if they shut down early or closed altogether on Friday). Not that people up here are necessarily better about winter driving, but we do have to get used to it. Some nice artistic shots MrEarl.
  16. -4 F here. We've had enough snow that I think the '54 parts car is likely going to be buried in a drift again. I'm hoping for the weather to warm a bit to head out to the country and move some snow (with a 26 hp Kubota). I bought a little snow blower for the city this fall...good use so far. I'm aging and I've come to the realization that the kids aren't about to move snow to my satisfaction so I figured I'd make my life easier.
  17. Perhaps contact the McLaughlin-Buick Club of Canada and place a wanted ad (space permitting for non-members). Someone in the club may own it or know of it. Ontario is a large, populous province, so any additional info to narrow it down may help. Good luck. Oh, Kijiji.ca would be a similar site as CL...not sure how popular CL is in ON.
  18. It's been a number of years since I've been to the Reynolds museum...time to think about getting back there...maybe set myself up for their restoration workshops next year.
  19. http://www.canadianautomotivemuseum.com/events/2017/1/14/winter-innovations-tour They used a Buick ad for their advertising of the event.
  20. Very similar bodies as the one in NZ, which lends additional credibility to the story of that truck. On a related note, I received my copy of the Accelerator, the magazine of the McLaughlin-Buick Club of Canada, today. In it is a brief article on the 1914 McLaughlin truck in the collection of the Canadian Automotive Museum in Oshawa, ON. I should have photos on the computer from our trip there in 2008. http://www.canadianautomotivemuseum.com
  21. My brother's best man died that way a few months after my brother's wedding...on the "flat" prairies but they met on a train overpass - the one place he was travelling that he wasn't able to see the oncoming driver.
