1936 Cord Phaeton Sale or Trade
edinmass replied to auburnseeker's topic in Automobiles and Parts - Buy/Sell
I’ll let you know as soon as he starts on it. 🥸 -
George……..your library for pre 1925 is impressive. And I’m guessing it’s a fifty year ongoing project. Thanks for posting. Have you driven a four wheel brake Loco as well as a two? Interested in your opinion on drivability from one to the other. Car Hyman has for sale says it had upgraded hydraulic brakes….…….from a different listing.

Paul…….it’s not about the deal. It’s about the car. I don’t want or need more cars……I have enough cars. I’m interested in rare, unusual, above average performance, and most importantly…….unmolested vehicles. Cars that have not been serviced by modern hack tractor mechanics are straight forward to recommission and sort. No missing parts, all correct hardware, correct fit and finish. On this new one I’m fairly certain that you could count all the known similar survivors on two hands, and probably one. Toss in its “the year” and “the best body style” and it justified our time and effort. When finished it will be kept at Phil’s house. It’s the perfect car for him and the grandkids. It’s good enough for preservation at Amelia or Pebble and would probably make the cut if applied.

Doing some Ghost research this week, it was 200 hours and 1500 in parts for a factory upgrade to four wheel brakes. That was the “kit” price in Springfield. Gives you an idea how “simple” early cars are. When it comes to the high end stuff like Rolls, Loco, Crane, ect………..they just are not that simple. I would expect the front brakes on the Hyman car would make the driving experience three to five times better than just the rears. That’s a lot of a Loco for the money……….I could even live with the white walls.

This one is more for Phil, than myself. it’s an open car 8 pistons tire size - not sure - guess it’s a large 16 inch chassis length……no clue……mid size car, small for me. decade of manufacture? 30’s For me, it passes the test of being very drivable. Modern highway speed capable. To torture you……….wire wheels, dual side mounts with covers……….

Not since the early 80’s…….and I only did it to get into my first pre war cars……..had a bunch of neat stuff that the muscle car guys would flip over. Ford’s, Chevy’s, Pontiac’s, Chryslers, no AMC’s. Also hundreds of motorcycles and some boats. I have been buying antique motorcycles lately…………and they are post war, but all over 50 years old.

Unfortunately there will be a bit of a delay. I won’t be able to pick up the car for about two weeks. It’s another one of those cars I had no intention of ever owning. The current plan is to roll it out at the AACA show in Miami in January. I think we will end up taking three cars. We’ll know more as time gets closer. Now I gotta go out and buy a bunch of books. This one is outside my field of expertise.

Phil with “the hands like George the animal steel” and are out working on a Saturday. As usual. I got a text. And we now we own a new car………. Let the adventure begin……. And David C eat your heart out! 😎 this is the car we are sorting. And we’re sitting at the bar. We get a text message. And we own a new car. More to follow.

Tell your wife she doesn't need that new car or kitchen remodel. It's much more urgent you buy a French custom bodied car...........😛

There are only a few cars that the actual start up and operation of the machine are special. Any Ghost, P1 or P2 are among the very few special automotive experiences that are hard to explain. Starting a J, and warming it up, sliding through the gears before the oil in the transmission thins out is another………and then once it’s thin and smooth, opening the cut out and bringing the tach up to 3800………. a very special experience that can’t be explained………. Driving a car where the oil pressure is part of the ignition system advancing the timing…….so few people get to experience a piece of automotive craftsmanship…….it brings joy to one’s heart.

The last few years every line in America has been erased. Obviously, the car is a “birthing person”! -

Cadillac Fan…….it’s as plain as the nose on your face. Read that as typical auction verbiage. Clear and pure like a bucket of hot tar. -

Above: Early split windshield, spare tire trunk inside mount. Rare and unusual. Typical huge running board trunk. Interesting car. 👍

I would pick a choice not offered. Ritz-Carlton. 🫣 Fact is most ladies won’t go for a dorm room with a shared bath………hell, after sleeping in the car at Hershey Fall Meet for ten years, an air mattress and tent isn’t too bad. As I age, a decent middle of the road hotel is fine. I usually stay at Hampden Inn’s while on the road. Reasonable price, breakfast, gym, and a pool if I want it.
