  1. I would say if you get an offer of $2500 - take it before they change their minds. Not trying to insult you or your car but as Kimo said, you really don't have a collectible car but instead an old car - major differences when determining value. Bob
  2. I have been in the old car hobby since the mid-80s. Over that time I have had lots of enjoyable times but over the past several years I have seen the hobby decline IMHO. Between ever organization having car shows (and charging $40 to show a car!!) and to the folks who are in the hobby only to make a buck, I have decided to find a new hobby. Oer the past year I purchased two vintage cars that were being sold as pristine cars. I went over them extremely well but some things you can't see until you really start to dig into them. Both of them had internal engine issues that the previous owners had (1) failed to disclose and (2) masked with a quick fix to get them sold only to show up a month or so later. After this I have decided, never again. I know there are some great folks in the old car hobby but after being burned twice in a year, I have decided not to take any more chances. It is sad to see the hobby degrade because of a several low life rip off artists. Bob
  3. Unless this is a car that you can not live without (i.e. one of a kind, snetimental value, etc.) I would pass on it. I never buy a car without a title because even though there are ways to get a title, it is more trouble than it is worth often. Just my $0.02 Bob
  4. I hate I am missing it. I had original planned on doing this tour since it is in my back yard but was unable to work it out for this week Bob
  5. I don't have a dog in this fight but I too am disappointed. I see no reason to pull VWs out of a regular production class and into a special microcar class. Don't fix what isn't broken. Bob
  6. I have a couple presently and have owned a total of 22 over the years. Corvairs are fun cars and fairly reasonable to restore (compared to some makes); however, I suggest the same thing about a Corvair as I do with any car - buy the best example you can afford as it will be cheaper in the long run. Clark's Corvair (www.corvair.com) has basically any part you would ever need for the Corvair. Bob
  7. Call HQ and give them the number on the badge Bob
  8. You should have inquired about the show prior to driving up there as it would have saved you a trip and the frustration. As Wayne said, most of the activities at meets like this are on Saturday. When I show at a National Meet I don't usually arrive until late Friday afternoon. Bob
  9. I have always been a fan of the 64 Thudnerbird dash but maybe I am biased since I own one  Bob
  10. It appears your Model A does not qualify for a Founders Tour due to the year Founders Tour – The Founders Tour is sponsored annually for all vehicles, except race vehicles, manufactured from 1932 through a production year 25 years prior to the year of the tour. The Founders Tour was established to honor the founders of AACA, and was designed to permit the use of newer vehicles on an AACA Tour.
  11. This is true of just about any car you decide to restore. It is usually cheaper to buy a car already restored than to buy one that needs restored and then do the restoration - especially if you are doing it to AACA Judging standards. Certainly there are exceptions to this, but generally you will sink more in restorations costs than you will ever recover. Bob
  12. Just remember, to these kids the 70s were centuries ago !!!
  13. 10 for me as well but obviously I so more lurking than posting Bob
  14. I have no dog in this fight but I guess my question is what real difference does it make if the VWs are in Class 04 or a regular production class? If the car is correctly restored, it should do well regardless of which class it is in. Bob
  15. Beautiful car - I used to own a 50 Buick, first of three that I owned as I later bought a 52 and a 55 Bob
  16. I haven't judged in years so I will leave the answer to someone else but my theory has always been on an item such as a license frame - if it isn't there, they can't judged it so there cant be any deductions . You could always take it off for the show and put it back on afterwards. Bob
  17. Thank you for bringing them. I have always loved Mets although I have never owned one and it was a joy to see all of them in Shelbyville. Bob
  18. It would take me a while to list them all and a lot of typing. My guess would be around 400 since I started driving 36 years ago. Bob
  19. How sad. I saw several non shows on the field but never dreamed one of them was due to something like this. My prayers go out to the family. Bob
  20. Just a friendly suggestion. Buy a 24' instead of a 18 or 20. My first trailer was a 20' that I bought thinking that was all I needed or wanted. Within a year I was upgrading to a 24 footer. The difference in cost between the two is very little and also not much difference in towing either - especially with the proper set up. Bob
  21. ^^ Not according to the Judging Rules. Bob
  22. No - it was a Mazda RX8. Fortunately I am an EX owner.
  23. I was on another forum and made a comment that I was growing tired of the issues I was having with my car (modern car). They banned me !!! I guess their love affair for their cars was so great that if you didn't share the same love, they didn't want you there. I sold the car, forgot the forum and left them to share in the misery of the cars they loved (without going into detail, there were numerous reports of cars having the same problems mine had - guess they banned anyone who unfortuantely owned the lemons LOL). Yes this a great site - much better than 99% of the ones out thee. Bob
