  1. I called and left a message with Jim's 2 days ago - so far no return call. Sounds like he is operating sort of like Antique Auto battery was. Bob
  2. Thus why I do not attend the banquets when I got to a National Meet. My wife and I go somewhere and have a nice meal (almost always less than the cost of the banquet) and then show up for the awards presentation. Bob
  3. Call these folks and see if they can give you an idea on value or put you in touch with someone who can - they specialize in vintage travel trailer restorations http://www.flytecamp.com/ Bob
  4. Cap would be okay in DPC. Usually about the only things that really hurt you in DPC are major modifications such as engine, body, etc. Bob
  5. I think they still have the Thursday Night Cruise Ins at Quaker Steak and Lube in Clearwater Bob
  6. There are several definitions that I use in the antique car hobby: 1) Original - unrestored, unaltered, "unrefreshed" etc. (except for general maintnenace items) as it left the factory - paint, interior, engine bay, etc. are just like it left factory 2) Refreshed - certain areas have been restored but the car is not a truly restored car - maybe fresh paint job and new upholstery but not a true restoration 3) Restored to original - full restoration (off frame, ground up) to way it left the factory 4) Modified - anything else Thats just my thoughts Bob
  7. If it were mine, I would remove the running boards and rain guards, topper (which you already mentioned) and replace the hoses with at least all matching ones. Degrease the engine bay but not paint anything, do a good cleaning over all- then see how it does. Bob
  8. I am not a HPOF "judge" but I do own a couple of HPOF cars so I have been where you are. On all my HPOF cars, my hoses, belts, tires and muffler have been replaced (with period correct items) and I got HPOF without an issue. I haven't taken them through a second round for Original HPOF but I think the main difference is that you aren't allowed as many deductions the second time around. From my limited knowledge, your running boards would be a deduction (possibly 1 point each) and radio another deduction. I may be wrong but I think items that are maintenance/safety items (tires, hoses, belts) are considered ok. I don't think running on 25 plus year old tires, hoses or belts is safe. Bob
  9. To say a car that has some modifications is not an antique car is incorrect - it is still an antique car (and always will be) but it is now an antique car with modification. The AACA allows modified cars to be judged - look at a judging sheet and see the deductions for cars that have modificiations - they are numerous and some are large deductions that most likely disqualify you from any award. The HPOF even allows modifications - they too will be noted and points deducted. At what point, in your view, is a car no longer antique? Is it with 1 minor modification (i.e. incorrect hose clamps), or 3 or 7 or .....? You get the point. Not all modifications are the same - some can cost you tons of points and some may cost you 1. To say a car must be 100% as it left the factory before it is allowed to be on the show field is unreasonable. Are you going to ask the person who has a minor modification to leave with his car immediately? When you get to that level of rigidity on showing, you will kiss most shows goodbye. Also, I am in some single marque clubs that are allowing modified cars BUT they are modified to the point where they would not be be "knowingly" allowed on a AACA National Meet field. There is a big difference and to compare those with what AACA allows is unfair. Bob
  10. Oen thing I have noticed is tnat once cold weather kicks in and the car show season is over, the old car market suffers. This might be a reason it isn't selling. Bob
  11. Even more sad, it sounds as if he took his own life due to all the things he struggled with personally. Very talented man Bob
  12. IMHO, a car that needs a top isn't a "good restored driver" because in reality it can only be driven in warm and sunny days. I agree with the others - fix the top so the new owner can drive it without having to take it somewhere to have the top replaced immediately. Bob
  13. Mind telling us what kind of car it is? I am interested to know what limited productions cars there were in 1994 Bob
  14. I mounted mine under the hood and was done with it. No one sees it unless the hood is open Bob
  15. Weight distibution hitch and sway bar(s) I hope are on your list of things beofre you tow it any farther Bob
  16. Yes I realize those things BUT I sold it yesterday so unless the new owner changes them, it will stay that way LOL
  17. Try finding a 1967 Buick factory sales brochure or try the AACA Library Bob
  18. Don't charge spectators after charging participants. I refuse to participate in a show where they charge me to enter my car and then charge folks to come and look at my car Bob
  19. I have this 66 Beetle and it is amazing the attention it gets everywhere I go. LOL Kids love it and parents are always asking me if they can take a pciture of it with their kids. If I am not in a hurry I usually offer to let the kids get in the driver's seat and get a picture if their parent's want to. Great way to get them interested in the hobby Bob
  20. Someone correct me if I am wrong but I have always read that tow capacity of the vehicle was based on the GVWR with the driver and a tank fo fuel so adding 7 more passengers will lower the capacity of your Expedition even more IF they are going to be in the tow vehcile when you are towing Bob
  21. I think a longer traielr is MUCH easier to back than a short one personally. Bob
  22. I have been pulling enclosed car haulers for about 27-28 years now. I will tell you that there is no way I would put the trailer you need behind the Expedition. You will need a taller than the average enclosed trailer which will (1) increase weight both at tongue and overall and (2) increase frontal area for the trailer. I would not personally feel comfortable pulling a trailer like that behind the Expedition. To be honest, pulling a trailer with additional height is your biggest obstacle IMHO. Bob
  23. Thats ridiculous LOL - just give everyone that shows a car a Grand National Senior Award at their first show and forget all the judging, etc. The change of rules is what happens when we bend any rules just because they have to have everything right now.
  24. Answers: 1 - stop payment for ANY reason? No, only a verifiable reason which would be unlikely given the fact the buyer obtains the check at your bank in front of you and the teller 2 - Not sure about this one - probably something you would need to ask an attorney or LEO 3 - I doubt bank would issue check until they verify the money is not counterfeit 4 - If he deposits the money in your account, I see no reason you should be concerned. 5 - This is another question probably best answered by an attorney; however, banks typically don't get invovled in civil matters so I think they would honor the check until directed by a court to do otherwise 6 - I have an account that is seperate from my others (actually at a different bank) where I can have money wired, deposited, etc. and then move it out. Banks are in the business of making money transactions. They don't get involved in transactions between other people if there is a problem. If a bank issues a certified check, they will honor that check in almost all cases because they verify funds, etc. prior to issuing the check. I have never had any bad experiences when selling a car with either cash, certified check or wire transfer. Note - I am not a laywer or a banker so I am only giving information based on personal experience. Bob
  25. Text him or leave him a voice mail (since he won't answer phone) and simply tell him that within 24 hours, we either scehdule a time to have his car inspected so we can clsoe the deal or let's forget the deal. If you don't hear back from him, then you have your answer. I don't waste my time with folks like him - either he is going to complete the deal or he isn't. My thinking is he has no intentions of completing the deal so i would walk away. Bob
