How to stretch convertable top on 1946 Cad.
DizzyDale replied to lawrence's topic in General Discussion
Dear Dave,I don't know where you are from but park it out in the sunshine for a while, fasten the entire top down.Take a heat gun and heat the top up in 2'x2' areas and pat with the flat of your hand being careful not to get too close with heat.Go over the entire top in this matter and your troubles SHOULD be over.diz -
Dear Don,Before i followed any of the previous great advise i would fill a spray bottle with water and spray it on the dash with the intention of flushing as much of the dirt off without touching or wiping or SCRATCHING the woodgrain. You should be able to hold it fairly close to the surface.diz

Dear CTman,MY guess is there is not sufficent unibody to bolt a receiver to and or the transmission is a weak dog.All that being said you could go to U Haul and find SOMETHING that looks like it will work and fabricate the rest.Good luck and please advise if you are coming to New York as i will stay off the road till you get back to CT.diz

Dear Wayno,Seeing those Packards and Zephyr 3 window under a layer of dust enough to make you cry YES.Woodchuck holes and uneven ground trying to turn your ankle YES.SEEING that Rolls Royce convertible coupe and telling the owner that i had never seen one before and him responding that it's the ONLY one in the world,PRICELESS.THIS show is without any question in my mind simply the BEST.diz

New York License Plates for Registration

Dear Ron,I believe the Suburban wheelbase and extended cab pickup are the same.Only reason i can think of for WANDERING would be too much tongue weight making the front end LIGHT.You must of had the Suburban with the LOCK up convertor,it's not the trans shifting it's the convertor locking and unlocking ......ENOUGH to drive anyone MAD.I had a late 70s Suburban 454,carb,turbo 400,conventional convertor.10 MPG empty or loaded, tons of power,IMHO was a GREAT truck.diz

ANY chance of a rear seat hassock?I know it's wide but the angle of the dangle and the brackets look like they WOULD work.diz -
Dear Wayne,Sounds like the RIGHT truck.I guess you could post Earls contact info and if Scott is interested he could get ahold of him.diz
-
Dear Scott,I vote for a late 80s Chevy Suburban,3/4 ton,454.Plenty of room, plenty of power, plenty of spare parts and i have seen em in Hemmings reasonably priced.Buy one that spent its life outside the Northeast as these vehicles have a tendency to be ROTBOXES.As often as you plan to use it,it will last a lifetime.Do NOT expect to win the Mobil economy run as you will get 10 mpg towing or empty.diz
