  1. It is a six, it is too big to be a 4. JB
  2. The trans locks started with the 1923 models. JB 22-6-55 Sport Touring
  3. Tom, You could try rocking the car with the car in 3rd gear, the motion of forward and back may free it up. There is a possibility the engine has a more serious problem, (sized bearing). Removing the oil pan and checking each brg. would be next. It seems strange that the engine would lock up on rust in such a short time. I have seen many engines that have sat for many years and not had a problem with rust. Let us know your progress. JB 22-6-55 Sport Touring
  4. Tom, Is the pump still frozen (will not turn), or you can not remove it from the engine? I see the starter/gen has been removed, the next step is to push the gear and shaft and bearing housing rearward rearward to remove. The housing is sometimes hard to remove, once it moves it should slide out. JB
  5. Tom, First , remove starter/gen. then the water pump and drive gear can be pushed to the rear, it can be done without removing the starter/gen but it makes it a lot easier when it is out of the way. Now try to turn the engine, if still stuck you have some bigger problems. JB 22-6-55 Sport Touring
  6. Tom, Remove the water pump and then turn the engine with the hand crank the engine. If the water pump is causing the engine to lock, the rebuilder my have installed the impeller with enough clearance to the front or rear of the housing, the orig impellers were pined in place this one is probably held with a set screw. If so it will need to be adjusted when it is installed on the engine. JB
  7. Tom Is the starter stuck or the engine?? I may be able to help where are you located??? JB
  8. My 1922 model 55 Sport Touring has a Fisher body. JB 22-6-55 Sport Touring
  9. John, The brushes on a 22 are on the dist. end of unit. and the parts are different than 23. Your 23 should have the silent overrunning clutch. Earthwalker, Have you had a chance to try any of these tips, if are in New England I would be glad to help. JB Sherborn MA 22-6-55 Sport Touring
  10. With the ign switch in the on position, you should hear a clicking sound coming from the starter/gen. The sound is the sprag clutch in the front of the unit. If not check wiring between switch and starter/gen (2 wires). As Brian said you could have trouble with the starter/gen . Of course you can always start with the crank, these engines are not hard to start with the crank. Where are you located?? JB 22-6-55 Sport Touring
  11. Jim, I think he is referring to the data plate above the right toe board. Does your car have two frame # plates, and are they the same #????? 22 should have a frame # plate on the center of the rear cross member above the gas tank, for 23 production and the 22-54 & 22-55 the frame # is behind the left front wheel. JB 22-6-55 Sport Touring
  12. Dick, The doors from a touring are 23 3/4" long and 21 1/2" high. Roadster doors are probably 2" longer. The fenders are the same on 21 & 22 and are mounted to the side of the frame between the fender iron and the frame. I think 20 covers the top of the frame. You might have better luck finding a model 44 body which is almost the same as a 54, I think the 54 is longer in the turtle deck area. Try the Heritage Alliance has a pic of a 22-54, there was one on Ebay a few weeks ago. JB 22-6-55 Sport Touring
  13. BJM, The engine is German Ford, 1500cc early, and 1700cc late. They are a very rugged unit, and can be modified for more hp. JB
  14. Richmond, I'll check those dimensions with the front doors on my model 55. Do the doors have any upholstery on them? JB 22-6-55 Sport Touring
  15. I have 2 of these 23 carbs , if anybody else needs one. JB 22-6-55 Sport Touring
  16. Right side down and rotate, it will have the be on lift or high jack stands. JB
  17. Michael, You could try posting this on the horseless carriage(pre 1916) on this forum. The bore size for the cyl. model 55 is 3 3/4", but the more common 4cyl. pre 1916 is probally the best answer. JB
  18. Michael, Early Buick 4cyl engine bore sizes were 3 3/4, 4 1/4 ,and 4 1/2". It sounds like you have a 3 3/4 bore. The casting #'s might be the only way to id. JB
  19. Michael, Could also be 6cyl. model 55 to 1916 , as they were cast in pairs, The casting #'s may ID also. JB 22-5-55 Sport Touring
  20. I voted for you today. I will try to get the gas tank to you before the end of the year. Good Luck Fred. JB 22-6-55 Sport Touring
  21. Gary, I may have a extra box, I have two orig. ones that I used as a pattern for a new box. I also have a gas cap. The gen cover is that nickle one over the brushes? If so Terry Wiegand in Kansas may have a refinished one. He refinished a few last year. Send me a pm and I can send you a pic of the box and cap. JB 1922-6-55 Sport Touring
  22. The horn is a Klaxon 12A, Try antiquespeedometer.com The correct one for Buick has 2 mounting lugs not 3 like Cad. They look the same but the Cad. one will not fit in the dash. JB
  23. The article y Dave Chambers is available from the AACA lib. as a reprint, The original Antique Automobile shows up on EBAY (March-April 1971) .
  24. It looks like the breaker on the right protects all lights, horn, and cigar lighter. The other protects the ignition circuit, a guess would be 20 amps for the ign and 40 for the lights. JB
