  1. Do you have any pictures of what you need? Back in the 80's or 90's I needed a set of saddles for a 16 Elgin, I bought several set from piles at Hershey one year. I think I still have a couple of set in my garage, but I have no Idea what they go to.
  2. At least it is not as ridiculous as Indiana's Historical Vehicle plate. First is cost the same as a regular plate about $35 registration plus excise taxes.($15-$2000) based on year and value. Indiana has no personal property tax on vehicles that are licensed. It must be renewed every year. It requires a state police inspection on which the officer states it has a drive train similar to original (eliminates street rods) and second the vehicle is be safe has highways speeds (55 mph) and this eliminates anything I consider and antique. So Indiana you can't license you model T or A as a historical vehicle because is is not safe at 55 mph. Really what prewar is safe at 55 mph other than a few high dollar Classics. If you get a regular plate it requires no inspection at all. I have had State Trooper inspect and pass car that are not capable of 55 mph.
  3. I like the layout of the top putting General and AACA together, The rest will take some getting used to. Not sure I like the hidden subforums. Why do Olds and Buick have their own section but Packard, Mopar and Ford are in the Domestic? Not criticizing just commenting.
  4. I guess the reason I would let it pass as a "Club name" is that it is a very common. I think half the Shelby's I have seen have the glove box or visor signed. I guess let it fall under "they are appropriate to the vehicle and displayed in good taste."
  5. I would think it could pass under. "a. Badges and license plate frames with club names other than AACA will NOT be subject to a deduction for authenticity, if they are appropriate to the vehicle and displayed in good taste. They will be judged for condition." If it was well executed I would let it pass or deduct 1 point at most.
  6. On my 1916 Elgin the book called for a good grade of Steam Cylinder Oil and a handful of good flake graphite. I tried 250 wt but it just leaked out as the transmission and rear end had no seals of any kind. An old guy at Hershey told me to use straight STP Oil Treatment.. I did and it worked fine without any leaks. The steering box called for Soft Cup Grease or Vaseline
  7. Arcing is very important to Old Indian Motorcycles or the front brakes don't work. I always did mine by hand with a file, Not fast but effective. I could have used a belt sander, it would be faster, but I always went the safe route with a file.
  8. I used a 12 volt jumper box in my 1955 Thunderbird. It has a 12 volt outlet on it.
  9. One thing we do is move the meeting to different members garages and have the owner discuss recent or current projects. If not at the new garage I have a speaker come in to talk about something car related. We have had lectures/lessons on: repairing plastic bumpers Paint Plasma cutters.   13. Usually the cost of public carrier insurance exceeds any money you can make. Tell your insurance company you want to take passengers for hire in a old car with poor brakes and no safety equipment.
  14. My 1916 Elgin with a Falls motor was Pull down to retard and up to advance. With the lever on the right of the wheel. Throttle was the same way down slow, up fast so for fast driving it both up.
  15. Great road trip we had 24 people attend. We toured the museum of Jeff Smith had lunch at Mogger’s Pub, toured the collection for Frank Kleptz and ended with visit to the Clabber Girl Museum.   16. I used to use Wesley but never again. It works but when you put your car in the sun or drive it and get the tires hot your whites turn brown, it's a good thing it's easy because you have to do it all the time. Once you have used it on a tire you can't go back. I started using Coker's 2 part cleaner. It a little harder to clean but you only have to do when you have done something to get the tire dirty. I have cleaned the the tires drove the car 250 miles and never touched them before a show. Try that with beach. Tire cleaning is a monthly thing not a daily thing anymore.

  18. Lover (Lower Ohio Valley evansville Region of the AACA) is taking a road trip and touring 2 car collections on Saturday April 26th. At 10:30 AM EDT we will tour the museum of Jeff Smith. At 1:00 PM EDT we will tour the collection for Frank Kleptz both collections are in Terre Haute Indiana. Neither of these collections are currently open to the public. Even a place to say how far you are willing to travel to help someone. Every body is listed by location so it is easy to find someone near where you are having the problem. I have been in BMWMOA for over 25+ years and I have received about 5 calls. 3 looking for information, Campgrounds, best roads etc. One a couple with flat tire on a Sunday and most bike shops are closed on Mondays. They lucked out I had a used tire to fit their bike and they were off later that afternoon and I had one less tire to dispose of. The other was an accident. The guy was Ok but his wife hurt her leg and was in a local Hospital. I picked him up from the hospital took him to get a motel room and then the next morning took him to rent a car so he could pick up his wife and head home.

    Wheel Balancing

    You will have to use a static balancer. You might have to make it yourself. You need to ballance the tire, rim and wheel as a unit or your wasting your time. Depending on how you drive the car and the tires you may be wasting your time anyway. I ballanced the Lucus 34x3.5's on my 1916 Elgin but found ballance wasn't the issue, the tires were eggs.
  21. My 1916 Elgine HPOF had something on the inside of the door. I just figure to coal tar pitch or something the body maker put to protect it.
  22. There were quite few trike v6's made and they still make them. They made very few v6 2 wheelers made and I sold the only one Monty ever made with the 2 speed and reverse to Howie in HI. You probably know him from the list. http://beaver.vinu.edu/boss%20Hoss.htm The problem was most people did not want to pay the extra cost of the Mercruiser V6. The motor cost more than the Chevy small block V8 and and on a trike why pay the extra money when weight isn't that big of and issue. On the 2 wheeler the 2 hundred pounds made a big difference. Most of them made just used the standard GM V6 and they had over heating and plug fowling problems due to the constant lugging at low RPMs. All but one had the single speed, no reverse converter. The trike should leave to CA by the middle of next week.
