  1. After thinking it over a Orphan must be stock. A car with a SB Chevy would be a step child to Chevy not and Orphan. I think a local shows it is important to keep modified vehicles out of the same class as stock/original vehicles. Especially when Orphans are concerned and parts availability is night and day difference.
  2. That is the way you used to have to attach files, you had to have them on your server somewhere and just point ot them. But the new system they are kept on AACA's server. When you post at the bottom under "Post Options" Click "File manager" when the pop up screen appears choose "Browse." Select the jpg you want to post click "open" then click "Add file "it should appear above the box. then click "Done adding files". Then Under the "Post Options" "File manager" it should have (Total Files:1) or as many as you added.
  3. Every show I have been to there is always a Corvair in the orphan class. I used to enter the orphan class with my Amphicar and my Elgin. (True orphans)

  10. Finally!!! After today's (8-6-07) mail I can see what you guys have been talking about for the last few weeks. Slow mail in Indiana
  11. I am just telling you what “Old National Bank” told me. I do know to pay with and electronic check on line all you need is the account number and routing number. So, I guess if you have somebody’s check you can make online purchase with the information contained on the check. When I ask her about a separate account, and she said about identify theft, I said if the account only has $20 buck in how could it help some get an account? She the account would just be a reference account the line on the account would be based on your credit rating, not related to the one account. Maybe I am just being paranoid but the last 3 offers I have had on my car have be type in all caps and wanting me to cash a check for more that I am asking and give the the difference. To Quote: “HELLO , THANKS FOR THE MAIL U SENT TO ME...I REALLY DO APPRECIATE IT.....AS FOR THE SHIPPING THAT'LL NOT BE A PROBLEM ..I HAVE CONTACTED A SHIPPING COMPANY THAT WILL HANDLE THE SHIPPING...SO THAT'LL NOT BE A PROBLEM... I am just trying to figure out what to tell these “potential buyers “that will not run off a legitimate buyer but not open myself up at all to a scammers. I am sure the thread can help other having the same problem. The last one was buying the car but sending a check for the agreed price plus $8000 to cover the shipping, I was to take the check and give the car and $8000 to his agent/shipper, who would be bring the check and picking up the car. It just takes a few to screw up the whole process.
  12. I ask the bank about opening a separate account and was told the money in the account is not what they are usually after, they are after your identity. They will request Credit Cards and open accounts using your bank # number as a reference. When the account checks out a legitimate they get the card or whatever. I miss the good old days.
  13. I got another email for the (purchaser) requesting my Bank Account number and routing number.(so he could send me the money) I called the bank, both of those numbers are necessary to wire funds in to the account. But with both of those numbers you can also take money out and make purchases. Don't send them!!!!!
  14. I have question about a safe payment. With all the stuff going around today. How can you safely get paid for a car you’re selling? According to my bank the safe way is have to buyer come in to the bank with me and do a money transfer. (Buyer must be at bank) I should not give my Account number to the buyer. The bank said they can only guarantee a Cashiers Check written on their bank and then there is a 24 hour waiting period. They said it is not safe to take large amounts of cash, if you take cash take only bank bundled cash and then there is still a waiting period to confirm all the cash is legitimate. Plus 30-50K is a large chunk of $100s. I don’t want to seem paranoid but how do you sell a car to someone who can’t come to you? I know most the offers I get a scams but I hate to blow off a real buyer.
  15. I still have it, I had it out for the second time this year, last weekend, I put about 75 miles on it. If I don't sell it by fall, I think I will loan it out for display this winter. I loaned it 2 years ago.
  16. Here are some picture taken by LOVeR's That's the AACA Lower Ohio Valley evansville Region members http://beaver.vinu.edu/AACA%20GRand%20national/index.html Enjoy.
  17. My dad had as 1962 Crown convertible. He kept that car from 1962 till 1970. It was triple Cream,
  18. Too old don't need any more kids. I really don't need anymore cars but I want more cars or at least a different one. I will trade for something that strikes my fancy that I haven't already had. only car I have had that I want again if a 810-812 Cord sedan. Things I would consider are Pre-war Packards, any Steam, Most Electrics, 32-35 Flathead RSR, some other Classics (with a capital C), maybe Brass. Fairly open just not interested in much post war unless it's a woody, Hemi or special interest. I may be willing to trade for something I don't even know exists. I will trade CCPG value to CCPG value will take less for a cash buyer. As I said it doesn't cosy anything to ask. Thanks for your interest.
  19. I got one today. No lie this is what it said. "I am XXXX XXXX by name, I came across your 1955 Thunderbird which I am ready to purchase it immediately. But I would like to know it's cost price so that I can proceed further on with payment. Awaiting your favourable reply. Regards.." XXXX XXXX I removed the (US sounding)name in case this scammer used some real persons name, as they usually do. I'm thinkin' a million dollars... I'm sure he has a freind who owes him 1.2 million with a check I can cash. I usually buy cars before I know how much it cost. Don't you?
  20. As I stated above Current, “not 1970” Indiana laws. Quoted from the current Indiana DNR site. (DNR is Department of Natural Resources)(ORV is Off Road Vehicle IE: Quads, dirt bikes) Also, if the ORV is registered through the DNR, and a “slow-moving vehicle” sign is placed on it, does Indiana law allow for driving it on county roads? Off-road vehicles (ORVs) and snowmobiles purchased after December 31, 2003 must be registered. ORVs and snowmobiles purchased prior to that date may not be operated on public property <span style="font-weight: bold">unless they are registered </span>(call 317-232-4200). Operation of an ORV or snowmobile on a state roadway is prohibited. A vehicle may be operated on the public right-of-way adjacent to the traveled part of the public highway, except a limited access highway, if there is sufficient width to operate at a reasonable distance off and away from the traveled part (as long as it can be done safely). You may also cross a public highway, except a limited access highway, at right angles for the purpose of getting from one area to another when the operation can be done in safety. The operator shall bring the vehicle to a complete stop before proceeding across a public highway and shall yield the right-of-way to all traffic. <span style="font-weight: bold">An ORV may be operated on a highway in a county road system outside the corporate limits of a city or town if the highway is designated for this purpose by the county highway department having jurisdiction. Be sure to check with your county highway department for regulations in your area.</span> In addition, a person without a valid driver’s license may not operate an ORV on a public roadway. Taken from a another area of the site “All ORV’s must have an operational headlight and tail light <span style="font-weight: bold">if originally equipped</span>” I it is not require if not originally equipped, that is the same for turn signals, and other safety devices on any vehicle. It must have what was originally equipped nothing needs to be added. So if you ORV did not come with light it does not have to have them to be operated during daylight hours. So if you register you 1970 Minibike with DNR, light or no lights. “<span style="font-weight: bold">An ORV may be operated on a highway in a county road system outside the corporate limits of a city or town if the highway is designated for this purpose by the county highway department having jurisdiction.”</span> Knox County Indiana, the county I live in allows it, and my daughter’s (light less Rokon) is registered. So I can operate legally “Today” much less in 1970 on the public road in front of my house and any county road or any county highways. It cannot be operated in city limits or on State highways, but is can be operated in the county on county roads and county highways. If you put a put a light kit on it(headlight and tail light) and pay for a license plate you can ride it on any streets (except on limited access highways and interstates because it is not fast enough to maintain minimum speed.) My Daughter’s Rokon started it’s life working on the Alaskan Pipeline is Alaska. It was used by a supervisor to ride from his office to different work locations. For Transportation. It was ridden on the snow covered roads legally, I would bet today it is still legal to ride ORV’s and snowmobiles on large percentage of the roads in Alaska legally.
  21. I think this is all a gray area Taken strictly it is the Antique Automobile Club of America That's “automobile” not “road transportation”? So why are motorcycles allowed at all? If you do allow motorcycles it is a very gray line between a street bike and an off road bike. Things are different from state to state and have changed over time. What defines an “on road” or "off road" Is it headlights? Tail lights? Lots old high wheelers cars didn’t have headlights or lights were optional? Turn signals old cars did have turn signals? Type of tread on the tires? You see what I mean? If the definition is it must be “street legal”. Why are race cars allowed, Factory race cars can be argued, but Indy cars, sprint cars, ,midget were never made for the street or street legal anywhere. I guess you could always say any off-road bike was race and enter it as a race vehicle. What is Street legal?? In Knox County Indiana (where I live) it is legal to ride an off-road motorcycle without lights during daylight hours on county roads as long as you have a current Indiana recreational vehicle registration displayed. So a mini bike can be street {county road) legal in Indiana. I live outside of town so it is legal on my street. In the 60 most mini bikes sold a street kit that included a head and tail light. So is that it? With it said that it is not an easy line to draw let me put forth my opinion. First of all I enjoy looking at the mini bikes like friends and I had during our youth. I think a lot of people do. I personally don’t really like looking at the Whizzers and motorized bicycles, but I have the option of walking past them. I know a lot of people do like looking at them and I respect that. My youngest daughter at 10 was showing a 1970 Rokon in AACA shows. She won a senior. She showed it for 5 years. Maybe she even learns something as well as got enjoyment. http://local.aaca.org/junior/spotlight/haley/haley.htm I can tell you there are a lot of people who spend a lot of time looking at the Rokon. The mini bikes are a great place to get youth involved. Did taking my daughter to the AACA cars shows make her a lifelong, die hard AACA car guy? No, now she is in high school and is involved is so much I don’t even have much time for the AACA. But I hope as she grows older she will look back on our trips to AACA National Shows as good memories and I think showing a mini bike helped her feel a part of AACA and enjoy herself more. Maybe when she is older and has children of her own, she can find time with her family to enjoy AACA as she did when she was younger. I will now step off my soapbox now……. Even older members who may only have a few hundred to spend on a show vehicle.
