  1. My approach may be different that other but, first you have to decide what your realistic outcome for the car is 400 point trailered show car or something you can drive to local shows and have a good time with on weekends and cruise-ins. I would think the latter would be more practical. If that is the case you need to clean and or paint stuff that is working, clean, fix and paint what is broken and replace only what you have to. This is where I may differ from other. First thing I would do it get the car running and operating, find out what works and what doesn’t, give it a full evaluation, doors, windows, heater, radio, lights, transmission , etc, the whole car, if the brakes are totally shot you may not want to fix them at this time but you can still drive it around the yard and test things. Then follow the instructions given by others only now you have a OK shelve and a needs fixed pile, it also saves you time and money by knowing what you need up front and getting the parts you need when you find them and not buying the parts you don’t need.

  4. Ron used to be pretty active on the list under the name Ronbarn. He will be missed we used to go over to the Warwick Hotel in Hummelstown for crabcakes every year during Hershey.
  5. Interesting but it took me a while to figure out where the car is. I read it as "located in Turner or USA"?
  6. All this talk about judges touch your car is absurd!!! I have been showing cars since the early 70’s and judging since the 80’s. I have had all kind of damage done to my cars at shows but none by the judges. I have even had my car trailer hit twice at shows. If you are so protective of your car that you don’t want a knowledgeable judge touching it, you should not have it in a public show. The worst was one year at Hershey I think it was around 1991, I was showing and Senior 64 Amphicar, back then the swap meet still went full on Saturday, I was out in the swap area when I returned I found my front bumper pointing to the ground instead of point forward. I was told by the guy next to me that a really large woman and her large son were setting on the front bumper of my car, and if any of you are familiar with Amphicar front bumpers you can understand why it gave way and bent down. He said that she just said the bumper wasn’t made very well and Hershey should be sued for not providing her somewhere to set and she walked off. I have had my light turned on so my battery was dead, lost a cigar lighter, I have returned to find 2 people setting in my car eating their lunch and numerous scratches. Not all at AACA Shows. So if you worried about a judge opening your door, you should keep you car locked up somewhere or at a minimum never let it let of your site. I for one, judge and show so I always leave the Judges a note telling them what team I am on and telling them to do whatever they need to do they have my permission. I usually leave my car open but several times when it was raining I have returned to find the judges close up the car. Not to Stereotype but I have found the people at a AACA National Events are more car savvy and act appropriately and keep the kids acting appropriately that at local shows. But you find stupid people with no respect for cars or anything everywhere. Unless you keep your car in a vacuum, it is going to get damaged.
  7. If you look close on the drivers side you can even see the registration numbers of the boat peaking out.
  8. I shot these at Hershey, http://beaver.vinu.edu/10-10-2008%20Hershey/SANY0797.JPG http://beaver.vinu.edu/10-10-2008%20Hershey/SANY0799.JPG
  9. Novaman I guess my point is. When you deduct the max on the wheels do you also deduct for the center caps or are they part of the wheels, I think the confusion comes from the AACA judging sheet was made for pre war cars and sometimes the items doesn't translate well to the newer stuff. Like where do bumpers start and body end on the newer stuff. Same issue for judging Motorcycles.
  10. For discussion purposes only: The spare is covered so it is not judged. I think to be real hard you could: Hub caps -3 each or 12 total Rims -2 each or 8 total Valve stems -1 each or 4 total Valve caps -1 each or 4 total Radials -3 each or 12 total So it could be a total of -40 total
  11. I am familiar with the deductions, but I am seeking other judges opinions as to how hard they would to hit the car, I could easily see deducting as low as 24 point or as high as 36 points.
  12. I have pictures of most of them at http://beaver.vinu.edu/10-10-2008%20Hershey/index.html
  13. How much to ding a car with one modernization? Point in case a late 60’s muscle car. Beautiful frame off restoration. But what you get to the tires and wheels. 1. It has modern radials. 2. Spotless period Cragar SS wheels. 3. Chrome valve caps. 4. Chrome Valve stems. 5. In place of the standard Cragar SS hub caps it had large fake knock-off spinners. Would you deduct for everything or just the tires and wheels? What would your total be?
  14. I think you can turn back in the DPC then go for the HPOF. I was thinking of entering an Elgin in HPOF but didn't want to close the door on restoring it and entering it in class in the future, I was told I could turn in the HPOF certification and then enter it in class if I restored it.

  17. I think I have a good video of the old flat bed for some years ago. he was dragging the drip pans and half way up the hill when he stopped to go in the granny gear every body did a Chinese fire drill, it was great. When I get time I'll have to look for it. This isn't the one I was thing about but here is one. http://beaver.vinu.edu/10-03-2005%20hershey%20and%20newport/Newport%20Hillclimb/video/PICT1503.MOV
  18. I always stop by on my way to Hershey photos from last year http://beaver.vinu.edu/10-7-2007%20Newport_hillclimb/index.html video from last year http://beaver.vinu.edu/10-7-2007%20Newport_hillclimb/indexvideo.html I just watch, I haven't participated since early 90's. Surely you beat that old flat bed that always has 20 people on it.

  20. 1955 Thunderbird, Red/Red both tops. V8 Correct, drive anywhere. $40,000 or trade? Jwolf@vinu.edu 812-882-8666 or 812-888-4172 Photos at http://159.218.3.3/bird/ complete text discription at http://159.218.3.3/bird/1955%20Ford%20Thunderbird%20info.htm I will trade up or down for something that strikes my fancy that I haven't already had. Only car I have had that I want again if an 810-812 Cord sedan. Things I would consider are Pre-war Packards, any Steam, Most Electrics, 32-35 Flathead RSR, some other Classics (with a capital C), maybe Brass. Fairly open just not interested in much post war unless it's a woody, Hemi or special interest. I may be willing to trade for something I don't even know exists. I will trade Collector Car Price guide value to CCPG value As I said it doesn't cost anything to ask. Any questions email me.
  21. This statement had me worried "The car didnt run but i talked him down the 4375 and bought it." I thought $4375 was a little high. I think $2100 would be good, but I think your body work estimates are really low unless your doing the work yourself and that is materials only.
