    Tires

Tires: Specifically P225 75R15. The tires on my 76 Olds Delta daily driver are 8 yrs old, cracked and out of balance. So just get a new set, right? Not so easy. None of the majors tire brands carry that size with white stripe: only blackwall and RWL. Found some made in China, but want to avoid those after my last experience on some 700-15 for an old truck where they had weights spread over 1/4 of the rim. One recommendation was for P735 70R15, but the tire shop could not supply comparison dimensions. It ain't supposed to be this hard what used to be a common size tire. Recommendations? Willie
  2. Just one of our few winter days. 85º yesterday and driving the convertible and 35º today. Like Bill said weekend will be nice again...nice enough to get the converible out again and burn some $1.45 gas. Willie
  3. I have heard of restored wire wheels on a 55 RM developing loose and broken spokes with radial tires...no recurrance after changing to bias ply. Has anyone had problems with these reproduction rims using bias ply tires? Willie
  4. Finally got some more of that green shag carpet like your Riviera came with...
  5. Whatever jack you use for emergency tire changing, but sure it will work if the tire is flat. Some floor jacks will not fit under the axle or lower control arm if the tire is flat.
  6. Also no problems with the ones on my 55 after 3,000 miles. Willie

  8. Skyking You're correct the pictures are HUGE: 1.8MB @ 3,072x2304 pixels vs an adequate picture that fits 34KB @ 600x450 pixels. Until Bill resizes there should be a work around in your browser; If using a recent version of Internet Explorer=>Tools=>Internet options=>multimedia=>enable automatic image resizing. Opera browser has a fit to width feature as should Firefox. Bill, "if you got it, flaunt it" does not apply to picture size...BTY, good job on the plates. Willie
  9. Pete Was it powder coated as one unit as seen in the pictures or as separate pieces? Willie
  10. Thanks for the reply. Looks like it will be worth pulling the manifold to look. Electric chokes for me have been a pain in the arsch. I will use a manual choke before an electric. I have never had a problem with the stock Buick choke if the heat tube is functional. Willie
  11. What is above the plate on the bottom of the intake manifold (4 barrel) of late 55 and 56 nailhead? I have one of these installed on my latest project: 264 nailhead into a 51` F-1. I had to use two left side exhaust manifolds so I lost the usual source of heat for the choke. If there is a deep enough cavity and significant exhaust crosses above the plate I may be able to loop some tubing for a heat source. Willie

  13. Brad You don't need a cut for the under the seat heater. Water flow is stopped by the same control on the firewall that serves the front heater. Water flow: left water crossover manifold==>under seat heater==>front heater==>heater control valve==> bottom of radiator. Willie
  14. Over on the AACA side they just lock the thread (no more posts) and tell why it is locked...here it is just deleted. We are and always will be step-children... Willie
  15. O course I am addicted, what with all you 'enablers' out there. ( one that enables another to achieve an end ; especially : one who enables another to persist in self-destructive behavior (as substance abuse) by providing excuses or by making it possible to avoid the consequences of such behavior ) Willie
  16. Thanks for the replies all. Can you recommend someone who guts the old radio and puts in a modern replacement, connected to the old controls. I have some non working radios that would be good candidates. The one in the truck was just restored and should go into a 6v vehicle. Willie
  17. The speedo with the needle is the base standard speedo for the special. The one with the trip odometer was standard on the Century and optional on the Special. The second speedo has a disc instead of a needle and a red line is exposed as speed increases. Usually if the speedo is inoperative it is the cable. The units will become inaccurate or noisy but will still "work'. Willie
  18. Joe I am aware of the problems presented by the voltage difference and would rather not alter the radio. Will the polarity be an issue if the voltage to the radio is reduced to 6v? Willie
  19. Can a 1951 Ford F-1 radio (6v positive ground) be made to work in a sytem with 12v negative ground. Thanks
  20. That's pretty nasty. But as long as it is structurally sound it is worth it (this is coming from one who has restored worse ), and as long as the passion for that particular model is there. Willie
  21. This is the size tire you should have (LINK) . As you can see recommended rim width is 6-8in. Put the tire on and enjoy. Willie
  22. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">I usually wind up disconnecting those things in my cars. I would not want smokers in the old cars for fear the ashes would catch the interiors on fire. I don't want them in the new cars either as I have had my fair share of burn holes in the seats from others.</div></div> It also STINKS!
