  1. The GM Heritage Collection near Detroit, I assume. Alward worked there. I shouldn't have assumed that GM was the only builder to maintain a museum.
  2. Is Mark Alward a member here? If not, does anyone know him and how he might be reached? I'd be happy to give my info via DM so he can call me if he wants. Alternatively, anyone else who worked or has info from the Heritage Collection.
  3. Wow. Never saw one with an exterior spare mount like that. Too bad I have no room/$$ for it.
  4. You need to talk to the provider of your liability insurance, not auto insurance. Regardless, I would also ask for an umbrella policy which is an extra layer in case there's something the building/club liability policy doesn't cover. Also, check with the national office since they might have resources.
  5. Absolutely. Add on potential travel to view it, cost to ship it home, etc. and the ACTUAL cost of that car can be 5 - 25% higher than the sticker price. While that shouldn't be factored into the sale price it certainly enters into the buyer's mind when they're shopping for what is an "unnecessary" purchase.
  6. The chemical you use is less important than technique, imo. 1. use less than you think. 2. the towel/newspaper should be flat as possible against the glass. 3. use clean wipes. 4. use a second towel to dry off the glass after you clean it.
  7. Well, that's annoying, and really kind of prejudicial against those who live in the interior of the state and/or don't have the money to visit the dealer. I'm a fan of safety and keeping clunkers off the road, but its just wrong that those who are skilled at repair might be moved out of business because of a poorly written law. The one benefit is that poorly written legislation often leads to innovation that avoids the law.
  8. Might have 2 cars there. It just depends on trailering, and if my wife will drive one.
  9. Just saw this. I chose a professionally installed polyurea surface for a 25 y/o concrete garage in the Chicago area (so lots of temperature fluctuations). It has held up well in 2 - 3 years I've had it. The garage is also insulated and drywalled but not heated. Epoxy surfaces are less expensive but the concensus was that they do not hold up as well in this environment.
  10. Always liked the look of that car, and bigger muscle cars in general. They seemed (although I haven't looked into it) to have a little more interior room/comfort yet still able to move a little and the Javelin had a distinct look.
  11. Maybe you need to start drinking better rum.
  12. IMO, the easiest way to tag parts is with tape and a sharpie. Use what is variously referred to as "board tape" in the music industry or "artists tape" in ... It's the same thing. Painters tape works ok, but it can stick and dry out over time and I don't recommend it. Prices vary widely and you can buy it in various widths. It'll stay for years if you adhere it properly, but never leaves residue and the sharpie ink doesn't bleed thru.
  13. It's an individual unit in a brand new facility, 15 miles away. Had to go there because very few places fitting my space needs (10 x 20). Surprisingly, available vehicle spaces are a rarity around here, although there's this place https://www.irongatemotorcondos.com/ but a 20 x 20 is $150,000 with a small loft area when I inquired. I've been trying to find a warehouse style condo (about 1200 sf) but none are available lately. There are some warehouse spaces open, but prices are not much better, and the access is by appointment, or they're very dirty, or both.
  14. Can I ask how many hours a month a job like that requires? Something I'm considering for the future, although I'd probably just use the facility as an excuse to buy more cars.
  15. 1 is in the garage and the other is in storage offsite. It's unheated and about $135/month. The place I used to use raised rent a lot from $119 to $250. Heated is $375 or so. The rest of the garage is temporarily filled with bathroom fixtures and tile. Maybe by February it will be cleared out. Maybe.
  16. That era has the absolute best front end of any car ever. That "mouth" grille is just killer.
  17. There's ways to preserve a car without driving it, draining some fluids, topping off others, heated storage, etc. but mostly cars need to be driven, IMO. That's why they were built. I would just like to see and photograph a bicentennial edition for nostalgia's sake, although if I had the proper storage space and could afford to, I probably would have one. Low on the list of cars I'd like to have, but still wouldn't turn it down.
  18. I don't know much about it beyond the fact it was painted and decaled with a bunch of bicentennial stuff, and a red white and blue color scheme. I used to live behind a Cadillac dealer and they had one in the window. Always loved big convertibles and the low number of them (200 per above article) suggests this was a pretty unique product.
  19. These are the sites I am familiar with. No comment on quality, etc.: craigslist ebay classic.autotrader hemmings clasiq bringatrailer trovit I'm sure there's more but these are the ones I know about.
  20. Curious if anyone has one of these? https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a15346364/the-spirit-of-76-celebrate-america-with-this-bicentennial-edition-cadillac-eldorado/ says there was 200 made and 199 sold to the public. I saw one at the dealership near my house in the 1980s. Would like to see one again. If you've got one in the midwest I wouldn't mind a road trip when the weather improves. Not looking to drive it, or buy it, just look at it and maybe take a few pix.
  21. Abe Lincoln said the same thing the last time we had lunch.
  22. As someone with Belgian ancestry I resent being called a clod! Harrumph!!
