  1. Workshop regulations in regard to paint and shop safety are one thing, then there is the total disregard for the emission controls on some of these cars. Totally illegal and setting a perfect example for impressionable minds.
  2. No kidding, I had to look it up. Although this abbreviation stuff is everywhere these days. People expect you to know?
  3. Was paradise on earth. Throughout the year 80 degrees is a heat wave and 45degrees is a killer freeze. Sweet spot at the beach 68 degrees. It was possible to do, and I proved it, to go surfing in the morning-Manhattan Beach, go water skiing before lunch- Long Beach Marine stadium and snow skiing in the afternoon- Mount Baldy. Grow vegetables year-round, grow tropical and sub-tropical gardens. A gardener's paradise.
  4. You see the dotted line in front of the harbor. Dana Point or to us surfers known as Killer Dana was a big wave surfing spot until developers decided to put in a marina and ruin one of the best surfing spots in Southern California. to this
  5. Demand for, https://www.eia.gov/ In 2021 the U.S. consumed 46.82 billion gallons of diesel In 2021 the U.S. consumed 134.83 billion gallons of gasoline
  6. That is correct. The price of diesel fuel was lower because it takes less steps in the refining process than gasoline to make. Makes you wonder why the price is so high today in comparison to gasoline.
  7. Correct on suspension changes, I think mounting to body is different (not in dimension-but hard points) and core support and bumper shock mount may be different.
  8. X & F refer to the body platform not a style. Then we have what is called by GM the "special X" which turned out to be the "K" body or Seville. X and F bodies share the same subframe, suspension, steering, brakes, drivetrain, rear axle components, my 76 Olds Omega-X body has T/A springs, and sway bars ft & rear and a 9C1 Police Nova variable quick ratio high effort steering box like some Z-28 & T/A's got. The hot ticket for enthusiast is to use the Seville five on five bolt pattern Seville disc brakes on the X-F bodied cars for more swept area and better heat sink. Lots of interchangeability here if you know what to look for.
  9. And the X body underneath was 2nd generation F body . It was done to get the handling and save money. Police liked it too. If I was in the market for a Seville, it would be 1975-79
  10. Pretty sure a California Seville Gasoline engine is a 350 Olds.
  11. Larry, you must know Brian O'Kelley. FYI he's the guy that took the pictures of my beetles in the above photos. In fact the 1966 ragtop sunroof car next to my blue 65 is Brians.
  12. Sorry, the 1965 Canadian 1200 Custom come with the 40hp engine. The European 1200"A" and 1200"A" Custom come with the 36 hp engine. What is unusual is this is the last year for the 36hp, the end of an era of the original "E" motor that dates back to 1937 when it was designed by Franz Reimspiess of the Porsche design team. Also, in 1963 all VW engines get heat exchangers and new fan shrouds and tin. 1937 engine Notice the difference in architecture between the 36 and the 40hp 36hp 40 hp 36hp has the fuel pump to the left and a cast in generator stand. 1965 111 is also the last year of the manual choke. And although the cars both use the new (1961) tunnel type of transaxle the 65 1200"A" still uses the 4.44 ring and pinion of the split case compared to the 40hp's 4.375 R&P The Porsche 356 engine design wise is in-between these two VW engines meaning they have a bolt on generator stand, but the fuel pump is over on the left like the 36 hp, the Porsche also uses a three-piece engine case instead of two, although the original early 356 used the VW engine case. FYI the original VW logo was this Reimspiess designed the new logo> Reimspiess also designed the suspension for the first 911 (901).
  13. Anyone want to guess what is unusual about the matching numbers engine in my 1965 1200"A" Custom.
  14. Used up? Not me I've had this one (A 1965 type 111 1200"A" Custom) since the 12th grade or 54 years. FYI, 1200"A" Custom is a subset model of the 1200"A" or former standard model. The one on the left of screen is mine. It's got 180,000 KLM and is all matching numbers. Original chrome too. The one on the rt. is a rare 1966 1200"A" Type 115 ragtop sunroof. note 117's were the deluxe metal sunroof. The one below I bought 43 years ago. It's a U.S. spec. early production 1964 Type 113 (deluxe) just turned 181,000 miles last week.
  15. Perfect color match with your paint!
  16. I've done a backlight on my 62 Catalina and several windshields on VW beetles. Your Pontiac and the ones I mentioned have a rubber molding that the glass is fit into and then placed on the channel "pinch" weld. With a small diameter rope that fits into the rubber molding to the inside of the car pressure is applied to the windshield and with the rope the rubber molding is pulled over the pinch weld by the rope and the window and molding are sort of sucked into the frame. To take this windshield out you get into the inside of the car and take the finisher trim off by taking the screws off the finisher. This exposes the rubber that was originally pulled over the pinch weld. with a razor blade you cut this rubber and from the inside push the glass out. Installation on my 62 Catalina and my VW's goes like this; put the glass on a table install the rubber molding around the glass, install the metal trim into the rubber molding, on the other side (inside of the car side of rubber) install the rope into the molding and cross it at the bottom then mount the assy. to the frame bottom edge down first then the top have someone keep constant pressure on the glass while you go into the inside and start pulling the rope which pulls the rubber over the pinch weld. Below is how it's done on a VW but you get the idea. Note VW chrome trim is different also before installing use silicone spray on the molding and the metal pinch weld. On a VW beetle it takes me about 15minutes to install.
