  1. I think a car like a 65 Pontiac can have it both ways. Some full-size Pontiacs were still regarded as performance cars, and performance cars usually aren't associated with skirts unless they are salt flat cars. Bonneville> >65 Pontiac 421 2+2Apparently the factory chose to show it> 0-60 3.9sec. 1/4 mile 13.8@ 106mph on street tires.
  2. Some cars were designed for a skirt, others were not. Mistakes are made when marketing or aftermarket thinks otherwise with a customer not schooled in car design. Lets look at a 1942 Buick Roadmaster that has "Air Foil body styling". The flowing line of the car starts at the front and exits through the end of the skirt. The car would look incomplete without it. Looking at a 49-52 GM "A" body you will notice that the wheelhouse opening has a double lip. That double lip is for the skirt to fit up to and make the skirt flush with the fender even though the skirt was an option on those cars. >nice & flush When Oldsmobile introduced "Sweep Cut" fender styling in 1954, it was designed as a "feature" and not designed for a skirt. Sweep cut fenders have a raised rolled lip which creates a shadow line under it if you put a skirt on it. 1954 olds 56 Chevrolet 59 Pont. A 59 Cadillac Eldorado Seville however was MADE for a skirt and like that 42 Buick the body side moldings go up to and flows through the skirt Skirts should be used when appropriate. The house below would not look good with columns of antiquity
  3. I special ordered this car a 1976 Olds. Original interior, Paint, engine and engine bay also original paint, 116,000 miles. When the car was my daily driver (for ten years) Every time I washed the car, I would wash the engine, every time I waxed the car I waxed engine bay surfaces like part of firewall, fender wells, radiator core support. The engine got wax on valve cover, lifter-pushrod covers, air cleaner, P/S pump. Why? I work on all my cars (collector or daily drivers) and when I finish working on them, I do not wish to look like a beginner lube rack mechanic after his first day on the job. BTW anyone who's been in the automotive trade knows what I mean here. Why? I like to clean all parts of the car, just a topside wash isn't a wash. It's like washing your pants and shirts and never washing your underwear. I'll tell you something else, for you guys that don't do your own work. Usually, a mechanic will do a better job when he knows you've been in there, and usually he'll respect you more for it.
  4. It was a side mount seat. Whoever was sitting in that seat could talk to the tire in front of him...It was a joke, geez.
  5. Interesting car, I think I saw one on Wayne Carini's shows. Interesting because it has three side mounts. Nice to sit out there and talk to the tire on your side.
  6. In my opinion a mistake some owners make is choosing the width of the W/W that is out of a cars time period. Of course, Black wall tires are always appropriate in time because they were always available (I think) from the factory. Examples OK> OK>> NG> Same hold true with a car from the 60's but in the reverse OK>OK> <NG Incorrect correct Correct by 1958 the wide whites start getting narrower> Nothing worse seeing a 1958+ car with the super whites
  7. I agree, and I think it really does have something to do with " gee now that the car is done, where are we going to put the spare"???? Then there are the marketing people that get involved. An example of that is in the car below. Just to show how marketing people can make mistakes when they get involved-think what the poor stylist sees after they ruin their creation of flowing lines with "pop art" below, This- to this- now that enhances the sculptured body
  8. I didn't know 1963-1966 full size Chevrolet used Corvette IRS🤥 Corvette engineers quickly became aware of its shortcomings and opted to begin producing their own version of what is commonly referred to as an IRS system, or Independent Rear Suspension. Released in 1963, IRS systems were first bolted under the gorgeous C2 split-window and would continue with the chassis for years to come. The biggest reason why the 1963 Corvette is the most significant in the history of the Marque is only visible from below the car. Designed by Zora Arkus-Duntov, a independent rear suspension (IRS) was part of the new chassis. This was a bold move on the part of GM, although Pontiac Tempest 1961-1963 had IFS and IRS two years before Corvette.
  9. My belief is they take away the look or lines of the car. The black walls show off the wheels.
  10. What pleases my eye in a convertible is one that doesn't show all its gear. So, the choices would be some of the following; now you see it- now you don't now you see it- now you don't- the look is so clean! Some of the worst car tops for convertibles would be-looks like a futon! much better up or better>
  11. I'm glad you clarified that very last bit.😉
  12. It's what you are putting them on that counts. That also goes for what you leave alone or put on the roof.
  13. Lots of trucks where I'm from and the reaction to the pictures would be #1, Very nice truck. #2. Interesting truck, owner probably a wannabe truck owner/driver. One truck ready for work, the other ready for the trailer.
  14. You missed one that should never have W Walled tires/wheels. It's the Berkshire behind the Ford woody. Even a loco shouldn't have W/W However, Tiger paws are acceptable! even on locos too
  15. Here is a body A_B_C? that confuses some people
  16. So, I looked up the AACA 2023 event schedule for the closest tour. I HEAR YOU TAKerry September 25, 2023 - September 29, 2023 2023 AACA Western Divisional Tour Location: California Central Coast, Santa Ynez Valley Sponsor: AACA Santa Barbara Region That's a 9-hr. drive from me. So now I would need a truck and trailer. Price of fuel in Ca.???? And that's why; Even though I don't belong to a club anymore there are plenty of car things to do in my area. Every Friday there is a lunch cruise to a local restaurant, four restaurants in a month, a fifth Friday month to someone's house for a barbecue. Email out every Wednesday for location information, there are over 100 guys on the list. Every Friday from early spring to November there is a cruise night to various places in the month. Every Saturday morning there is a coffee & donuts cruise, after that there is breakfast with car buddies. Not to mention car shows spring-Fall POCI, OCA, VVCA, AACA are not represented locally.

  18. What ideas you have that you would like to see car clubs do that are not done now. I think all clubs have a mission statement. I think that the mission statement should be paramount in the eyes of the members and the potential members of a club. The clubs or chapters that I have belonged have all deviated from the purpose of the mission statement. Deviation from the mission statement has split clubs and turned members against one another. On the outside, deviation has caused public bewilderment as to what the club represents and sometimes a little humiliation to some members. Former Clubs AACA POCI OCA VVCA PAAC
